This past weekend we went on a ski trip to Canada – our neighbor to the North!

The ski resort, Blue Mountain, was a bit of a drive.  It was 7 hours from our house.  Luckily the weather was good, but we didn’t even see any snow on the ground until right around the ski resort.  It wasn’t the best weather for skiing, but it certainly wasn’t bad by any means.  Some of the runs had ice, since it had rained earlier in the week, but most of the snow was good and it’s wasn’t very cold.

Speaking of a long drive… on the way home my husband’s truck first warned us:

And then two minutes later it said:

Geez, what a nag!!

Here’s some fun things about our trip…

Our hotel included a “free” continental breakfast.  We gasped in horror when my son came back to the table and announced that he “found the bacon”.  We quickly explained that the hot breakfast was an extra fee, and we hid the bacon under our napkins.  When the waitress wasn’t in sight we all shared in the forbidden bacon!  I mentioned “free” because we only got 2 free passes for breakfast, despite having 4 people in our family.  Hmmmm.  Didn’t realize that when I booked the hotel.

Blue Mountain ski resort was all about safety, which was good.  What we thought was really odd was that we needed a separate pass to get into the terrain park.  Mind you, this is just a normal terrain park, nothing out of the ordinary or huge.  On our second day of skiing we went in search of the pass.  They asked us to fill out information about ourselves (date of birth, address) and when we were finally done, then we found out the pass was $10 each!  Uh, no.  No terrain park passes for us!

Side note:  this is my sad face that we didn’t have terrain park passes.  It also looks a lot like Grumpy Cat.  And, what is up with my mustache!  We had quite the belly laugh about that.  I was not aware I had a mustache issue.  I will have to pay more attention to that…

We did spend a few bucks on the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster.  That thing was wicked fun!  It was really fast and I screamed (in joy.  or maybe fear.) the whole time we were on it.

We found some of the different food products quite interesting.  These were from the vending machine in our hotel:

Smarties – nope, these are not the fruit flavored chalky treats we have back home.  These are more like M&M’s with a chocolate center.  Those really threw us off because at the Canadian McDonald’s they had a McFlurry flavor with Smarties.  Before we knew what they were, it sounded hideous!!

Coffee Crisps – Totally my style.  We bought several of those.

Jalapeno chips – ick.  Not my thing.

Ketchup Doritos – mmmmm.  That one sounds good!

Wine gummies – interesting, but sounds good.  If they had alcohol in them.

One more interesting flavor was the chips with maple and bacon.  We had to try those!  They were good.

At restaurants they serve “poutine“.  We asked if that was a vegetable.  Come to find out that poutine is french fries with gravy and cheese curds on them.  I politely said, “uh, we’re from Ohio.  We don’t eat cheese curds.”.  Haha!!  I really should have given that one a try.  It sounds so exotic!

On the way home we ate a brown bag lunch.  But we didn’t have any spoons.  So we made due with straws for our applesauce.  Great suggestion from my son!

Q:  Yeah, or Nah… have you ever had poutine?  Did I miss out on something good?

Q:  What is your favorite flavor of Doritos?

Q:  Ever been on a mountain coaster?

You must try one if you ever get the chance.  So fun!!

    1. I’m sure we totally mispronounced it, making it sound even more unappealing… but any food that starts with “poo”, well, you really have to think about it first.
