Glass City Marathon training is WELL underway now.  Half marathoners should be getting their miles in too.  This is my recap of what’s going on in my training.  Click this link to see any Training Tuesdays you may have missed.

Time for a health check up – all hip/foot/knee issues are non-issues.  That’s the great news!  The biggest challenge for me right now is that darn glute pain.  No, it’s not going to kill me, but it will keep me from achieving my dreams of being an Olympic distance runner.  There, I said it. 😉  But I will keep at all strengthening and PT exercises for glutes in hopes something positive will come of it.

weekly recap

Last week I ran 55.4 miles!  Top mileage week of this cycle.  I did have a notable run on Sunday.  I met a faster friend and ran with her for the first time.  I was very nervous that I would not do well on this run, and look like an idiot!  It was a 10 mile run with 6 miles at tempo pace (half marathon).  I ran Columbus half marathon in the Fall with an 8:14 pace, so I tried to keep around that pace.  I got lazy (tired!) after a little while and didn’t even look at my pace, and just went by feel (hard!).  The paces ended up being: 8:12, 8:17, 8:30, 8:12, 8:02, 8:21. I call that a success!

I don’t normally look ahead on my training plan (Got no time for that stress!), but I did peek at my medium long runs for the duration and this week is officially the longest one!  I have reason to believe that this is one of those really important <hard> workout weeks, so I’m hoping to be on my game.

Here’s what I’ve got on schedule this week:

  • Monday – Recovery 6 miles.  Done.  I was sore to start out, but super glad I ran because it really did help me work out the aches and recover faster!
  • Tuesday – Rest day, easy biking at the gym.
  • Wednesday – 14 miles, medium long run.
  • Thursday – 6 miles recovery
  • Friday – 16 miles w/ 12 at race pace
  • Saturday – Rest.  Rest.  Rest!!
  • Sunday – 6 miles recovery w/ strides
  • Total = 48 miles

Hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend: Valentine’s & President’s Day.  Those are both great holidays when you are a kid due to candy, and getting a day off (ditto when you work in the banking industry like me!!).  We went ice skating on Monday!

SKATING
Can you tell the age difference – my son was hugging me, but my daughter was blocking me because her friend was there too!! LOL!!!!!!

Q:  Did you have the day off for President’s Day?

Q:  If you are training for a race right now, how is it going?

Q:  Did you get a nice treat from your Valentine??

  1. Luckily I had President’s Day off. And even got the next day off as well. And heck, the entire week. Okay….being retired does have its advantages! And training for Boston is going well outside of the nagging pain from rolling the ankle a few weeks ago. 100 miles last week and didn’t feel as hard as I thought it would.

  2. So many miles! Congrats on a great week! I just signed up for a 10 miler, so as of yesterday, I officially started training. I’m gonna do speed work and race pace runs each week as well as recovery runs. My goal is to gradually work up to 40 miles a week and still enjoy running!

    1. Nice! Enjoying running can be the hard part when training is happening. Seems a minor injury always gets the mind back on positively wanting to run all the miles again! But let’s keep injuries out of this for both of us.

  3. Congrats on you high mileage week! Are you following a Pfitz based plan? That is what I used for my first (and only) marathon and that midweek 14 miler had me so worried. Somehow running 12 miles midweek was no problem at all, but longer than a half marathon after a full day of work?! It sounded so impossible (but fortunately it was not too bad).

    1. Yes, it is the Pfitz 18/55 plan! I was sad after my run was done that it was my longest, and the only one I had to do. Kind of sad to reach that goal and then that’s it!! When I put my training plan on my calendar originally I thought “WTH?” and it was killer, but like you said, it’s not that bad and you ease into it. But I think it’s aggressive for a first marathon… kudos to you!!!
