Happy Friday!!  The weather is turning cooler – which means it’s Race Time here in Ohio!!  Fall marathons are the bomb.  Love that feeling you get midway through your training cycle when you’re endured weeks and weeks of hot sweaty humid summer runs, and then you get that first run with a chill in the air.  THE BEST!  Makes you feel like you’re flying.  Then, a week later it snows.  Well, that’s how it is here in Ohio it seems!  🙂  I feel like we get two weeks to comfortably switch from shorts to capris before it’s time to bust out the tights again!

Here’s what is on my race calendar for the upcoming months…

October 1stMacQueens Run for Your Life 10K

This race has a 5K and 10K distance.  I like to run the 10K because those race distances aren’t as common as the 5Ks.  However, both the 5K and the 10K get the same delicous donuts and cider at the finish line.  That’s what I’m talking about people!  The donuts from MacQueens are divine!   (Registration fees increase after Sept 21st, so head on over here to sign up!)  You also get a really nice soft shirt with this logo on it!  Spooky, no?

I had a really good race there last year, so I’m hoping for a repeat performance.  Given the date, it will be a good dress rehearsal/tune up race for a lot of the Fall half & full marathons.

October 15th – the Columbus half marathon

It’s the big race of the season for me!!  Training is shaping up nicely.  Not sure I will be going for any time goal quite yet, although a sub 2 hr is always appreciated!  Other than that, not pushing the envelope, hoping for full recovery and not to start back at square one!

November 11th – Churchill’s half marathon

If all goes well in Columbus, I’ll be toeing the line a month later at this great Toledo Roadrunners race.  It’s a fun point-to-point race over some hills (which may not agree with my hammies sadly…).  Due to the hills this may be a slower race for me, but no worries, I have fun seeing all of my friends at this race!  And did I mention it’s the 50th year for this race??  You can’t miss that!  (Loved the medals and shirts last year!!!…..)

After November, I’m playing it by ear and see what’s in store for me next.  More recovery?  More ambitious goals??  We shall see!

  1. I think PA has pretty similar weather to OH! But I skip capris. I will wear shorts as my bottoms but on top, long sleeves, vests, gloves, and a hat. It’s cool you will get in two halves this fall! And they are nice and spaced apart. So far I signed up for a trail half and I’m in the relay of the Baltimore Marathon.

    1. My capris are getting a workout this week! I love them because they have side pockets. Despite my fat storages, my legs tend to get pretty chilly in shorts in the 40s! What distance do you have in the relay?

  2. Light at the End of the Tunnel on September 17th. Maybe Albuquerque in October if the Tunnel is not a BQ, Hilly Half in Nashville, IN, in November and then the Schaumburg Half Marathon after Thanksgiving. I much prefer Fall races. I absolutely HATE training through a Chicago winter. Brutal cold and piles of snow make running outside miserable and I am not a TM runner. After 5-6 miles on the TM, I am done. I usually take most of December off. Run some but depends on the weather and holiday events.

    1. As I’m writing this, only 6 more days until your big race! I’ll be thinking of you. I’m sure all of the registration talk is getting you psyched for it (I hope in a good way!!).

  3. It’s exciting to see you back in training mode! I know it’s been a rough patch with the hamstrings.

My fall race calendar seems to keep filling up (and reminded me I need to update my own site).
    October 1st – Scrumpy Skeedadle – 5K followed immediately by 10K.
    October 7th – Viking Trail Run 15K.
October 15th – SURPRISE! Hopefully Columbus Half (first time running it).
    October 22nd – Racing for Recovery 10K.
    November 11th – First time Churchill’s half!
    November 23rd – Dave’s Turkey Chase.
December 10th – Santa Hustle Half @ Cedar Point.

    I’m evidently a glutton for punishment….

My preference for races is middle 40’s to mid 50 degrees, and low humidity. Be it fall, spring, summer, winter…Just give me the low temps!

After the Santa Hustle, I am planning a break. I need to schedule a minor outpatient procedure and will take a good month off, then back to training for glass city half.

    1. Phew, you have a very busy race calendar!! I think you’ll really like Columbus. And I see our paths will be crossed a few races this fall! Hope your training goes well!

  4. That sounds like an awesome line up! Columbus was my first full 3 years ago. I love the course, the community support and of course the patient champions. I think I’ll have to put that on my to do list for next year. Have fun with the rest of your training!
