training tuesday

Welcome to my weekly recap.  I’m training for the Columbus Half Marathon… and how did it get to be Tuesday again already?!  I have had a crazy busy week which I will talk about in another post, but let’s see how my training went this week!

Miles run:  27.5 miles  (up .3 from last week.  ha!)

Mon – 5 miles, treadmill 10:34 pace.  Nothing special about this run, but I am enjoying catching up on my DVR’d tv shows! My kittens showed me some love when I came up from the basement.  Awwww!

We also had another cross country “ice cream” hill run after school.  I biked along with the team.

It was around 91 degrees outside.  Those poor kids running up hills in that heat!! 🙁  The ice cream was well deserved.

Tues – Rest!

Weds –  6 miles, treadmill 9:19 pace.  This was a progressive run which kept getting a little faster as I went along.

Thurs – Rest!

Fri –  Long run, 10.4 miles.  I broke my long run into two parts due to my schedule.  I had a Dr appointment and I wanted to get my run done first, so I started running when it was still dark out (on my treadmill), and finished up outside.  Initially I was bummed because it had started to sprinkle when I got outside, but then I got to see a really cool rainbow.  Glad I made it out there!

Yeah, there’s an 8: in front of my pace!

Sat – Rest!

Sun – 6.2 miles, 8:25 pace.  Race day!!!  MacQueen’s Run for Your Life 10K.  I’ll give you a race recap later this week, but I was quite happy with it because it went better than I expected.  Here’s a race photo…  I was going for a “thumbs up” look instead of my usual “jazz hands”.  Nailed it.  Kinda.

Speaking of rainbows, we also saw this weird rainbow right around the sun last week.  Crazy!

Q:  How are your workouts this week?  Anyone tapering for a race?

Q:  Do you have a favorite show from the new Fall lineup?

I’m loving the return of Will and Grace!  It’s a bit political, but they are still hilarious.

  1. You are so ready for Columbus! Nice job at MacQueens and your Friday long run, nailed them both! I just saw the video recap of MacQueens and I believe you come by around the 1:10 min mark (start of the race). It was a gorgeous day for a run.

I hit my track Tuesday last week perfectly, but didn’t have a good tempo run Thursday. Weekend was the double run at the Orchard that did not go as planned. There’s always this week! Sadly, I know I can go out and muster a half marathon, but I’m still really pushing for that PR this year. I’m hoping December at Cedar Point is going to be the one, as Churchills doesn’t seem like a PR course.

We started watching The Good Doctor. It’s only 2 episodes in (we only saw the pilot so far) but think it has potential. Has that “House” feel to it, and we liked that show a lot (same creator I believe).

    1. Hey, thanks for locating me in that video!! Wow, I was quite a ways back. It was a busy start chute, I was weaving around people.
I agree – I don’t think Churchill’s would be a PR course, but Columbus could be (if you’re ready!) and I would think Cedar Point would be flatter than Columbus.

  2. I’m glad your race went well and the kids got ice cream after running in that heat and up that hill. It sounds like you guys keep the XC practices fun which is so important at that age. Your week of training was pretty impressive too so I hope you ate some ice cream.

I agree with Dan on The Good Doctor; I really like that show so far! I liked Young Sheldon but then heard it won’t be back until November which is kinda crazy.

    1. I was looking forward to the Young Sheldon show, but it wasn’t quite what I expected. A little more serious than I had hoped. Maybe the next shows will be a little different.
I’m glad the kids enjoy XC and are motivated, because if someone told me to go run up hills in that heat I would have said “no thank you!”. haha!

  3. OMG wait … so many things! I have been out of the blog loop for too long!

    1. When did Garmin come out with a pink forerunner?! It’s beautiful!

    2. You’re all moved into your home gym! Yay!!

    3. Look at that tiny little kitten!!!!

    4. Nice pace!! How are your legs feeling?

    1. Good to hear from you! Let’s see…
Garmin – that’s my Ebay band! I think it was $4 shipped from China. It’s a very good replacement band!
All of the equipment is in our basement gym, but there are still tasks to do to finish everything. Couch is being delivered in a few weeks!
My hamstrings are definitely “improved” but I’m still doing PT everyday. My race kind of flared it up a bit, so hopefully I can get those hammies to calm back down, and go away for good!
