Welcome to my Weekly Workouts! I had a lot of stuff going on this week, all good stuff! I ran 30 miles, and biked 78 miles! In case you missed it, I also published a couple of posts about our road trip and Grand Teton. You can read those HERE. I’ve got a few more coming too!

I mentioned last Sunday that I was heading out mountain biking with my guys.  I’m happy to report that I was able to crush it on the trails with my new bike!  It was so fun to ride.

Except the part where I fell off the skills park again.  And over the handlebars as I crash landed. I am NOT going on that thing again. Nope. Nope.

Mon – run, 5 miles.  I decided to go outside for my morning run.  Since I’ve been back from vacation I have noticed the later sunrise and it’s bumming me out a bit.  I’m lacking motivation to get out of bed!  I did catch a bit of the sunrise so that was a nice end to my run. And look at those dreamy clouds!

At work they said there were some “goodies” in the lunchroom.  Due to coronavirus they were all “individually wrapped”.  Not exactly what I was expecting!  I miss the good old days of a box of donuts or bagels.

I also rode 10 miles as the sunset. It cooled down just a little when the sun was setting and I had the trail to myself. (and only ate a few bugs. haha!)

Tues – Bootcamp!  2 miles running.  A great workout, and then I was informed that we need to meet earlier.  Oh no!  That will be a bit tough, but I’ll give it a try. I did pretty well today – a 30 min transformation before I zipped out the door to work!

Ladies Ride Night!  16 miles, biking. I have been interested in joining in on this ladies ride since I saw it last year, and I finally got brave enough to join.  There was a good turn out – at least 30 people riding.  When the first (fastest) group took off, I decided at the last second to ride with them.  There were 10 of us and the speed was supposed to be between 15-17 mph.  I’m happy to report that I kept up just fine, met some new people and got an emergency lesson on changing a flat tire!  My friend’s tire went flat and luckily we had the tools to fix it.  I’d never seen one changed, so it was a good lesson.  Unfortunately she didn’t get the glass out of the tire so she had another flat soon and had to leave the group.

But we all met up afterwards to celebrate a birthday and have a drink and snacks.  A fun night and I look forward to going next week again!

Weds – 6 miles running, Daybreak Divas.  Week 2 of our early morning group run.  I ended up running a bit more than the group because I had a little bit of time left still.  On the run I had a slight pain in my right shin, and by the time I got to work and was sitting down, it was quite painful to move!  I spent the morning with an ice pack on it.  By the end of the day it was fine.  Meh.

Wednesday date night… another microbrew visit! And a walk down by the river.

Thurs – Rest day!  Spent the day at Cedar Point.  Things are quite different at the park this year, but the rides are still as much fun.  We had a super easy entry into the park because temperature taking is done via a walk through scanner (I didn’t even notice it) and there are much fewer people there! We had a 10:00 am reservation, but got there around 10:30.  Had almost front row parking, and then made our way back to the big coasters to get “Access Passes”.  They limit the number of people waiting in lines by assigning an hour for you to come back for the ride.  It was nice because standing in line isn’t the most fun at the park, so the wait times were shorter.  We got on our favorite rides a few times so that was good.  The weather may have kept some people away too, because we got sprinkled on a few times.

We did have to wear masks the whole time, even on the rides.  That seemed like a crazy idea, but it was actually just a minor inconvenience.  A couple of times it did get really warm with them on, but there were “relax zones” to remove them for a bit.  I’m just glad they are still able to be open.  The workers were cleaning everything in sight and I’ve never used so much hand sanitizer in one day!

Fri – running, 12 miles… 2 at bootcamp, then 10 miles long run.  My bootcamp workout is starting even earlier now, and somehow I ended up being the first one there!  (crazy)

Since it’s my day off work, I decided to just get my long run done.  It would give me a nice chance of scenery.  This run actually went quite well, compared to last week’s long run.  I just got my Athleta order in the mail and was excited to try these new purchases out.  I loved them!

Saturday – running 5 miles.  I wasn’t going to run today, but when I saw my new Athleta shorts from Friday hanging up, I wanted to run in them again!  (no judging, they were all aired out.  LOL!)  I stayed up too late Friday night, so I had a hard time waking up early.  I knew it was going to be hot, so I decided to just wear the shorts and my sports bra with the pocket in the back to hold my phone.  So glad I did because it was a sweaty one!  Enjoyed a dip in the pool to cool down.  That’s my favorite way to spend a Saturday morning in the summer!

Sunday – 52 mile bike ride!! We could have picked a better day for a 3 1/2 hour bike ride, but we did survive the heat and the wind. Sweat was dripping off of me during this ride! We ended up stopping at a cute little gas station store to refill our water bottles. Next time I need to take a few GUs with me.

When I got done I realized my new bike shorts (with a pink waistband) had bled on to my shirt from all of the sweat!! Luckily it washed right out. Phew!

Well that was my very busy week of workouts! Sorry for the long post, but hey, it’s always fun to scroll through some pictures, right?

Q: Did you bike this week?

I have to admit, I do enjoy riding more than running!! 🙂

Q: Have you been up to see the sunrise lately?

  1. Well, I think my post was longer. 🙂 Most of the time I do try to keep them short & sweet! Sounds like you had a fun & busy week!

I am up to see the sunrise, but not out to see them. I actually embrace the later sunrises, as that means more shade for the dogs on our walks. We’ll talk again in winter.

Glad there was not lingering effects from your bike snafu!

  2. Awesome week on all of your workouts. You’re right – you were super busy this week!

I haven’t had twinkies in SO long but looking at that photo made me want one, lol. That’s cool that they were still able to give everyone some yummy individually packaged snacks.

    1. I took a chocolate cupcake from the selections! Yummmm We do buy those kind of treats to pack in our lunches when we go downhill skiing. I always look forward to my treat!

  3. 52 miles! Sounds like the new bike is working out just fine for you! Glad you’re enjoying it. I love mine-I bought it in 2012 after I developed a stress fracture in my foot. I figured I could ride and it was the best thing I could have done.

    Stay cool and safe!

    1. The 52 mile ride was on my road bike, which is about 4 yrs old – but yes, the mountain bike is great! My old hybrid is pretty much only good as a camping bike now… the kind of bike you don’t worry about getting stolen at the campsite because it’s not worth much!
Cycling is a great sport, for cross training, and especially when it’s so hot outside! It’s nice to have that as an option.

  4. I used to get mysterious discolorations on my light colored running clothes and it took me a long time to realize that my pink sports bra was to blame. Doh! I don’t know if there is a donut shop close to where you work, but if there is I’d say give everyone a gift card and tell them to take a 10 minute break to go get a real donut!

    1. Better yet – just think if they had a donut truck and could stop by our parking lot!! That would be a fun treat! (other than getting out in the 90 degree heat in our work clothes, but hey, you gotta deal with it!)

  5. Yes, I saw the sunrise every morning last week (well, I was out and about, even when the sunrise may have been hidden LOL), and I did some biking, too 😉 #twinning I enjoy biking for recovery more than an actual workout (or at least that’s what I keep telling myself), but I am working on increasing the intensity of my biking (more hills, and longer distances).

    1. I don’t think of my cycling as a workout really. It’s too much fun, and it’s easy! Hopefully it’s one of those things I’ll say “wow, cycling has gotten me into great shape” when the winter hits.

  6. It’s interesting reading about your experience at Cedar Point! I didn’t know they had walk through scanners to take your temperature. That must make things alot easier! Looks like you had a fun and busy week!

    1. The scanner was really fast! I thought they were going to check our foreheads! Cedar Point was fun, but I miss having more people there. It was kind of like a ghost town with so few people. Just odd.

  7. The sunrise is still too early for me to see without a big effort here, but I miss having it to photograph! Well done on all the work and the epic bike ride!

  8. I’ve had random shin pain like that, comes on strong and then goes away! Our bodies are strange 🙂

Those office treats made me laugh. So much for communal potlucks and whatnot! Those days are long gone.

Sorry to hear about the bike crash, but glad you’re okay!

  9. Wait. Over the handle bars? Say it isn’t so! Yikes! You’ve been a busy girl! Glad you had fun at Cedar Point despite the masks. There’s much to be said for smaller crowds and short lines.

    1. My front tire went off of that elevated “boardwalk” thingie, and the first instinct was to slam the brakes. So yep, the bike stopped and I didn’t! DOH! So glad I didn’t hit my face. My leg does have a bruise though.

  10. Look at you! Getting back on that bike after you went over the handlebars! I don’t think I could!

Was Cedar Point crowded? All the theme parks are open here, and I don’t know that I would feel ok going back. They are limiting guests, but they are still so huge – it’s a bit daunting! I’m so glad you had fun!

    1. I was feeling all confident with my new mountain bike. Dumb idea! Cedar Point was super uncrowded. So few people that it felt odd. They are limiting people, but it seemed like only 25% of the people on a regular day. It was a Thursday, with rain in the forecast, so hopefully that was the issue otherwise I feel like they are going to be super struggling with lack of business. It’s a bit sad.
