After our long day of skiing on Saturday we went to a festival at Bay Harbor, called the Ice and Spice festival. The “spice” was a chili contest. They had incredible carved ice sculptures!
The ice photo booth was a bit chilly!
The fireworks at the end of the festival were great!
Then we went to the City Park Grill in Petoskey. A few years back we went there and Sydney got a shrimp appetizer which she loved. So we just had to go back. However, they no longer have those. But they still have the biscuits which have become one of their specialties. Soon, we were offered more biscuits… and our food still haven’t arrived. Fast forward an hour after our arrival and we still didn’t have our food. Uggh. It was turning into a long night. After we scarfed down our dinner finally, we relaxed at the hotel before zonking out from our long day of skiing and entertainment.
Today we went back to Boyne Highlands for skiing. We were wondering how good the snow was going to be because it was supposed to snow last night, but it just rained instead. Fortunately the snow was good and we had another fun day of skiing.
When I say “skiing”, it’s kind of a loose term because we spend the majority of our day going through the woods, instead of on the actual groomed runs. We love going on the tiny trails that lead through the trees with bumps and lots of crazy stuff. At Boyne they have wooden structures for mountain bikes (in the summer) and we found out they were pretty fun to ski over.
Here’s a great natural jump we found in the trees. It was quite a thrill to go over it! We all went over it, but Zachary and Alan were the only ones who properly nailed the landing 🙂
They also had sleigh rides with dog teams that we could hear yapping while we were skiing. Of course we had to go visit them. They were all quite happy to see us.
That sums up our trip up north. It was a pretty awesome trip and the kids just keep getting better and braver with their skiing each time we go.
Q: How long have you been skiing?
A: I started back in high school, and Alan started when we were dating. The kids were the lucky ones who were up on skis around a year and half old. They can definitely ski the whole mountain now!
Sounds like a great way to enjoy the long weekend!
I have not been skiing in probably 17 years….seriously.
So, I killed my knee when I was 15 and I don’t think I’ve been out since then because of the knee.
Looks fun though!
