Just a recap on how my runs went this week. Monday started out with a hill workout. I actually drove to the “hills” to do this workout in the pre-dawn hours. My hill area is an overpass, which also has a hill leading to the park right next door.
This workout actually went pretty well considering it was a lot of running back and forth on the same area.
I did have a brush with the law though (haha, so dramatic!). When I arrived, the gates which are used to keep people from crossing over the bridge were closed. Not a big deal, just open them up a crack and run across. But, by the time I was on my last trip across, the official gate opening time had arrived and a park ranger opened them all of the way. Oops, busted! The ranger appeared to be taking down my license plate number as I ran past my car. He didn’t stop and ask me if it was my car, so maybe it was just routine procedure that he needed to do. Hopefully they won’t start putting a lock on it because of me!!
Tuesday – 11 mile run with 7 at half marathon pace. This one looked really promising… until I saw the 70 degree temperature with 86% humidity at 5:30am. Ugh. I started out running outside, but after 2 miles decided to turn back because it was going to turn into a hot mess (literally) and I wasn’t in the mood for that. Ran the 7 miles on the treadmill and was able to keep up the proper pace for the majority of it. Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Wednesday – 10 mile run. Oops. I thought it was my rest day so I slept in. Oh well, extra rest is always good. So really, zero miles run today.
Thursday – 10 mile run! Got up early and dragged Alan out of bed to run with me. Despite my “I’m out the door in 10 mins after the alarm goes off” speech, we still managed to start this run at 6:00am with a 5:40am alarm. But still, kudos to him for getting up early! I will convert him to an early morning runner!! After my run I took a dip in the pool before work. Such a nice way to start the day!
Friday – Long run 20 miler day! This run started out really good. Averaged a pace right around 9:00 which is a good “decently easy” pace for me on most days. It was good weather and the sun was just coming up, but we had a lot of shaded area along the first half of our run. Alan ran with me. The second half of the run kinda fell apart mentally for me because at the turn around point I thought we would have 16 miles done, and we only had 12. Waaaaaa. Remember – me, bad at running math. So that was a bit disheartening and with the sweat and sun I was really looking forward to the run being over. The last two miles really sucked, but overall I ended with a 9:12 pace, so woohoo on that. And so happy to be done 🙂
When I got home, I hopped in the pool to relax/cool down and my son appeared in his running gear. Oh yeah, I still had to run some miles with him. I had promised him I would when I tucked him in bed last night. So I dried off and ran some more miles with him. 2.1 more miles done 🙂 My daughter borrowed my Garmin watch and off she went to run a few miles too. I’m impressed with both of them wanting to run in the heat.
And finally, I promised myself a Starbucks ice coffee upon completion of today’s run. Super happiness!
Well, it’s almost 11pm and I have to get up at 1:30am for the trip tomorrow. Better get some sleep!!

Q: Do you run “hills” on the treadmill or do you live near hills?
Q: Got any fun weekend plans??
I live at the base of a mountain, so I get my share of hills for sure! I can’t believe you went BACK out after running 20 miles to run more – that is insanely awesome. I wouldn’t have moved from the pool! Great job getting it done this week!
That first mile with my son was actually OK because it was like a slow recovery run but mile two was pretty rough and I was done!!
Cool, you have real hills? Nice!
Wow you are such a machine! I have never in my life run 20 miles, let alone whipped out 2.1 more after thinking I was finished! You totally deserved that iced coffee! 🙂 ahh the mental side of that would have destroyed me haha, that is quite the miscalculation! I am the WORST at maths in general though (seriously, problems counting out change bad 😉 ) so I am fully not judging 🙂
Eee that is 2.5 hours sleep?!? Good luck! Can’t wait to hear about your trip 🙂

Flight doors closing in 15 mins. Squeeeee! Here we go 🙂
Ooh I would have freaked out if I saw a cop taking down my LP#. I suppose he could have just put a ticket on your car right there if he wanted to though.
10-10-20- that is some serious mileage all in a row! Do you use the Hanson plan I have been hearing about from some other bloggers?

Technically it was 11, rest, 10, 20 – I messed up and was supposed to do 11, 10, rest, 20. But yes, sure seemed like a lot of miles this week! It’s a modified Pfitz plan. I shuffle the days around to work for me and there is a mid week run I cut down. Weekly mileage is supposed to top out at 55 miles but mine is 50. That’s more manageable for me.
Cool thanks for the info! I am like the queen of switching things around…
