I hope you had a good weekend, and survived Monday. It was a busy weekend for me.
Friday: I was going to run with a friend, but then she had to work. Then Alan offered to run with me. But, since he got up to meet a 5:30 am running group that day, he was actually too tired to run again… so I was solo, and he went back to bed. 10 miles was the goal. It was a gray day, a bit chilly, and just downright un-motivational outside. Is “un-motivational” a word? I’m sure you’ve seen it – it’s the opposite of a kickass awesome day! I even thought about just sticking with my treadmill, but I know I need to get outside in the winter, so off I went. Not surprising, my run just sucked. It just felt hard. I had serious doubt about me being able to run even a half marathon again!! I got out 5 miles and wished I had a phone because I probably would have called Alan to come pick me up! But no such luck, I had to run back home. When I uploaded my Garmin data, I was pleasantly surprised. Not a bad pace at all, even though I felt like crap. Go figure. Why didn’t I know my pace while I was running? My Garmin watch died and I was using Alan’s watch. It’s an older model and I couldn’t read the numbers and I wasn’t familiar with the screen layouts. And apparently my vision sucks! Waaa
Soon after we headed out for an afternoon of Christmas shopping. Alan and I hit several stores and actually got quite a bit of gifts purchased. Woohoo!! During the day my left foot started feeling a bit pained. Not sure why, but it was bothersome.
Saturday: I woke to “frozen fog”. That’s a new one to me. Luckily I didn’t encounter the “frozen” part of it, because I was meeting a group of 7 ladies for a group run.
Super exciting because almost all of them were only online acquaintances of our local “She RUNS this town” Facebook group. I had never met them in person. They were all super nice and we ran in two groups – 9:30 and 10:00 paces. I even decided to go 6 miles, when I originally was going to stop at 5. What the heck, it was an enjoyable run (so different than Friday!). My foot was a little pained when I woke up, but it was fine during my run.
Sunday: Dang it, my foot still feeling odd!! I actually turned down a run request from another friend today. Me! I turned down a run with a friend! So unlike me, but I really needed to rest my foot. I really want to start out my marathon training (starting Dec. 20th) in a healthy position. No need to push it at this time.
Which leads us to Monday…. and yes, I am icing my foot. I ran 4 miles on it today. It didn’t feel good for the first mile or so, and then it wasn’t too bad. Still, I need to take my own advice and just give it some more rest. It pains *me* to have to stop running during the holidays. Boo on that.
Especially when we have lots of frosted cookies just waiting to be eaten….
Dang it.

Q: How is your holiday season going? Motivated to run all the miles, or eat all the cookies?
Q: Have you heard of frozen fog before?
It has been pretty foggy around here lately. I bet the kids have a school delay in the morning!
Where on your foot does it hurt? I am intrigued because on the SIDE of my foot I have that tearing PF feeling when I bend over and touch my toes and then flex my foot. It is like the only position it hurts in but it is very, very apparent!
Your sucky 10 miler… I had a run like that last weekend! We have all been there. A bad run means a good run is right around the corner.

My pain is still in the ball of my foot, maybe still the Sesamoiditis stuff because it’s the same foot. Most noticeable in the morning when I stretch my toes really wide. My pain is more of a dull pain – yours sounds like sharp pain. Foot pain can be so mysterious!! Hope yours is just the niggles 🙂
That stinks. 🙁 The foot is such a mystery to me. I have had short bouts of PF (VERY short thank goodness) and one other weird foot thing that stuck around for a week or two but never sidelined me. The foot is one thing that is definitely a mystery to me and I am NOT comfortable diagnosing! I don’t know what Sesamoiditis is but I will google it because I like to learn. 🙂
I love those runs when you aren’t paying attention to pace and are surprised with a faster than expected run when you actually check the data.
I hope your foot is feeling better soon! I can totally relate on needing to balance out the Christmas cookies with a run.

It is a good find when you’re speeder than you thought! I’m really missing my watch though. It’s hard to go backward in technology features 🙁
We had freezing fog in Ireland a few years ago, but thankfully it’s nowhere near that cold this year. Yet.
And yes, un-motivational is a word that both runners and bloggers are allowed to use lol

Speaking of not being cold yet… the forecast is for 57 degrees here today. What the heck, this is December??
YAY on finding a running group!!!! I tell you, a running group is the key! Especially for long runs!!! Time just seems to pass! I know there are lots of “solo” runners, but me? I am more of a social type 🙂
How the foot pain improves! Foot conditions are so aggravating!
YUM, the cookies look delicious!!!!! I love to bake… but just don’t seem to have the time to these days!!! I need the days to slow down…… I haven’t even began to Christmas shop!!! EEeeeeekkk!!!!!
Don’t worry, you will have more time when your son gets older. Nah, just kidding! 🙂 I just ordered my xmas cards today. Woohoo!
