I had an interesting mix of running and social activities last week.  It was good for me to get out of my comfort zone and get some racing in.  It was especially interesting because I was solo at those races instead of racing with my family or husband.  I did get to see a lot of my running friends, so that made up for it.


Last week my total miles were 55 miles.  I had some challenging runs (long!) and fun ones (pie & beer!).  Click here to see my previous weeks of training.

running checklist

This week I have a few scheduling challenges due to the kid’s events and Spring Break starting on Friday.  Need to figure out when I can get to the gym.  Here’s what’s on tap for my week…

  • Sunday – (done)  8 miles of “whatever”.  I wasn’t sure how I would be feeling today, but I knew I would not be doing the speedwork that was on my schedule.  So instead I ran 2 miles with my kids and then just ran around without looking at my watch, enjoying the sunshine.
  • Monday – Rest!  Odd that there is a rest day on Monday, but that’s due to the weekend racing.
  • Tuesday – 9 miles speedwork – picking up the Sunday workout.  Includes 5 x 1/2 mile intervals at 5K or better pace.
  • Wednesday –  MLR, 11 miles.  This will be a bit slow I’m sure!  also Gym day!
  • Thursday – 4 miles recovery w/6 x 100m strides
  • Friday – 17 mile long run.  Ick, probably make this 18 miles because I just don’t like odd numbers like 17!
  • Saturday – Rest 🙂  🙂
  • Total miles = 49 

I am working hard at stretching and foam rolling on days that I run.  Also throwing in a quick ab workout and PT exercises most nights too.  TV time is not rest time, right?

Although it’s too soon to think about race outfits for me, my race nutrition and fueling is at the top of my mind lately.  I have found a new GU flavor that I actually like.  When I first saw it I thought it would be super odd, but it’s actually slightly sweet, not “plain” or “non-flavored”.  I think it will be a good choice for me in those later miles when I just don’t feel like taking any fuel.

Remember when I had last Friday off from running?  Well I did find something to do.  My husband and I helped out at the school!  I got to be “copy Mom” again.

And I’ll end with a funny… I changed into this outfit after work one day.  I always put something comfy on so I can do my stretching, as I mentioned earlier.  My kids thought I looked “all dressed up”, I guess because my clothes actually matched, and they wondered if I was going out!!  Oh man, I guess that’s a sign that you’re really deep into marathon training.

    1. Yes, I do enjoy it’s ample space 🙂 actually the best part is a built in ironing board that folds into the wall, like a Murphy bed. Super handy!!

    1. I’d say Salted Caramel and Vanilla Bean are my favorites, so you might like that Plain flavor too. Very lightly sweet. I saw they also have Cucumber Mint and Chocolate Coconut now. I’m a sucker for trying new flavors because they sound so intriguing!
