It’s Tuesday again?!  I had a nice long four day weekend, because I work in the banking industry, and it seemed like I was on holiday!  (I love to say “on holiday”!)  For two more weeks I am in “pre-race-training” mode for the Owens Corning Half Marathon at Glass City on April 23rd.  Here’s what I have been up to in the past week… and a quick update on my Dad too!

Weekly Stats!:

  • Training for:  *nothing yet!*
  • Days of running: 4
  • Miles run: 24
  • Gym visits: 0!  It just didn’t work out this week

** Update on my Dad – I spent a bit of time with him yesterday.  He is back at the rehab facility (nursing home).  His condition was much improved from when I saw him at the hospital.  I also saw him on Friday, but he was sleeping the whole time so I didn’t know how he was.  I’m guessing he must have got the offending meds out of his body because he was actually making sense and could carry on a conversation without falling asleep.  He did his PT exercises as prescribed, but it’s minor advancements because he can’t stand up without a lot of help and can’t transfer to his bed.  Thank you for all of the kind words and well wishes everyone!!  Fingers crossed we can keep up this momentum!!


5 miles on the treadmill.  It was a bit rough getting up at 5:30am again, but so worth it.  Great way to start my week.


6 miles on the treadmill.  Do you see those boards under our treadmill in the back?  That means it’s Boston training time at my house again!  Well, not for me, but for Alan it is.  I am just enjoying the fact that I can now run at a decline again when I need a break!! 🙂  My back was feeling a bit odd and tight so I hung on our inversion table after my run.  It’s quite enjoyable!

Rest day!!  No running this morning, but I did some weights for my arms before work because I was going to skip my gym visit and go see my Dad in the hospital.  Such an emotional day 🙁

I also thought I would see how many steps I could get in on my rest day.  Wow, I’m a couch potato.  Glad I run most other days because I am sure not hitting my goal in my typical work day!

3 miles on the treadmill.  No running picture today… but will a picture of my cat do?  She is being naughty hiding on my kitchen counter.

Long run day!  Started with 4 miles on the treadmill (because it was dark out.  Don’t judge, I’m klutzy and I didn’t want to trip!!).

Then I geared up and ran 6 more miles outside, just because I feel like I NEED to get outside once a week.  Some weeks I have to force myself to go outside.  Yes, I like my cozy, safe basement treadmill set up that much.

Good points: I have been stretching after my runs, and doing a brief warm up too (very brief).  I almost ran 25 miles for the week (my goal).

Bad points:  I have sore hamstrings after *every* run.  This is really worrying me because I feel like I’m on a bad cycle again like last year!!  I might just cut back on mileage this upcoming week and see how that goes.  I’m also foam rolling the heck out of them!!

  1. I’m so glad that your dad is making progress. I know it can be frustrating for it to go slowly, but every step forward is in the right direction. Still sending lots of positive thoughts your way!

    LOL I have tracked my steps before and on non-running days it’s wayyyyy under 10K for me too! I noticed when I was in NY twice last year that I walked so much more. Whether it was to get to a place or simply to get to a public transportation center. Here in South FL. we don’t have a great public transport system and no one walks anywhere because it’s always so hot out! Even though I live in downtown I never walk anywhere! Thank goodness for running!

    1. So apparently those step trackers are supposed to motivate people to walk OUTSIDE of running. Who knew?? haha. Heck, I’m that person that parks the closest to the race start line or the grocery store. All of that walking sounds tiring 🙂

  2. Hey – you aren’t supposed to use those 2x4s on the treadmill to make the run easier! They are for downhill training only you slacker!

    1. My daughter just got the Charge HR 2. It’s really cool! Last night when she we turned her light off for bed, she popped out of bed and declared that she needed to get 100 more steps to get her goal! And she did 🙂 I’m glad it’s motivating her!
      and YES, you need a treadmill. I’m pretty much in love with mine.

    1. Fingers crossed he’s on the right path. However, he has to go through knee replacement surgery again sometime to get him all fixed up properly, but maybe we can identify which meds to avoid!!

  3. I’m glad your Dad is doing better!

    The Health application in my Iphone tracks all of my daily steps but I never pay attention to that. I know I don’t really walk much on the days where I don’t run. Here in South FL we have to drive as a form of transportation, so my only way of walking is if I go to the grocery store or a mall.

    1. I forgot about that Health app! I think mine does that too. I’ve never paid much attention to steps until I got this Garmin. And my heart rate. And my running pace!…

    1. Hi Lisa! I like the rebrand! Thanks, my Dad really has been improving quite a bit. It brings joy to my heart!! Hey, if that basement picture of mine doesn’t sell you on a treadmill, I don’t know what would! haha I actually walked on it today because it’s my rest day, but I wanted to watch a show and get some steps in. My little reward 🙂
