Thursday!!
My favorite day of the week. My last day of work for the week, pizza and beer night with Alan, and TV watching night! My official start to the weekend!
Quick post today… two fun things to report on Thursday –
FIRST…
my Dad is going home today!!! He has made a spectacular recovery from a month ago when we had no idea what was going on with him and he was in intensive care, and two months ago when he had the knee infection (see here for story). WOOT! It’s huge. He will be at home until his knee replacement surgery on March 1st, and then even after the surgery he will be recovering in his own home if all goes as planned. Goodbye rehab/nursing home!! It was a nice place, but I hope to never go there again!
Here’s my Dad on his recent 79th birthday. Don’t worry, he is happy. He is just not a “smiler”. When I do ask him to smile, he makes a goofy face. There is no in between smile!
I’m sure he is smiling on the inside in this shot…. Nursing home fun!
SECOND…
I went to the opera with my Mom and daughter last night! Yep, the opera! So fancy 🙂 Sydney got extra credit for attending, so sure, why not? It was the Marriage of Figaro. It’s “part 2” to the Barber of Seville. If you’re old like me, you might remember the Barber of Seville from the Saturday morning cartoons of Bugs Bunny. It’s a classic!!!
It was actually a really great show. The theater was great. The singing was incredible!! The plot was a bit confusing, even with the subtitles, but it was pretty funny. The performers really brought their characters to life. The costumes were great and I loved the stage scenery.
I will have opera singing in my brain all today because it lasted THREE HOURS. I had no idea it would last that long. After driving my Mom back home, I didn’t get to my house until 11:15pm. That is a really, really late night for me, and especially for Sydney who usually goes to bed at 9pm! Luckily we ended up having a 2 hour school delay due to some icy weather and it was a running rest day for me (sleep in!).
I don’t think I’ll be attending an opera anytime soon again, but some day I’ll attend another. It’s always fun to try something new.

Q: Have you ever been to the opera?
Q: Do you remember Saturday morning cartoons?
Q: Did you get hit with some winter weather today?
We had a bit of ice, but not much snow. We need more snow!!! Snow makes everything so fresh and pretty.
3 hours is a long time, even if it’s good. Mozart is mt FAVORITE composer but I have never seen an actual performance of one of his operas! Just had to listen to a lot of it in college. But my favorite music he wrote is his choral pieces. We sang his Requiem… OMG BEST PIECE EVER. And Ava Verum Corpus.

They play classical music in the cat shelter rooms where we volunteer! I guess it calms them down? It kind of just drives us crazy. I can appreciate it though. Mozart was pretty amazing.
The snow passed to our south but we definitely got the cold. 40* on Tuesday down to 10* this morning. Wind chill was 0* but the sun was shining so that helped. Managed to get 8 miles done despite a weird knee pain that just popped up near the end. Chicago had the Lyric Opera but I have never been. Friend of mine is passionate about opera and volunteers as an extra. He gets to dress in costume and just stand on stage in the background. Being a child of the 60s I grew up on Saturday morning cartoons. Glad to hear your dD is doing well.
I could totally see myself being an extra in something. I’m all about that kind of thing! But I’m not sure if I’d like seeing the same opera over and over. I was wondering how many times they have performed the same thing. I guess if that’s your passion, it’s what you do! Kudos to them for just memorizing those long songs in a different language!!!
What a fun night and a well timed 2 hour delay! I’ve never been to an opera before, but my aunt and I like to go to a couple musicals each year…which is not really the same at all.

I would love going to musicals! I really haven’t gone to any, but now that I see my Mom is game, I just might be planning some! No need to drag my husband to that.
