Still training for nothing, but it’s nice to keep a journal of my running to see how things are going. Overall it was an OK week. Keeping my runs pretty short, and enjoyable (well, that’s the goal anyways!).
Miles run: 13.32 miles – Wow, that’s random!
Now that it’s May, the beautiful morning weather has arrived too, and I’m loving it! Sadly, with my new work schedule I can only fit in a tiny run after the kids get on the school bus, but I gotta say, it’s amazing what a quick little mile around the block can do for starting the day out right! I used to have an extra 30 mins before work, but now it’s only about 10 or 15 mins, depending on the level of hair styling required that day 🙂 I’ve been trying to find a good hair product to get rid of the fuzzies and let my natural curls do their thing, but so far I think my choices have been a fail! Frizz is my enemy.
Monday – rest
Tuesday – 1.15 miles, 9:26 pace. A quickie to enjoy the morning sun!
Wednesday – rest
Thursday – 5 miles, 9:40 pace. Decided this will be a “long run” day 🙂 . Yes, 5 miles seemed kind of long! Just kept it easy. I didn’t feel sore necessarily, but general tightness in my upper hamstrings and glute area. Not bad, maybe 2 out of 10? It was a rainy day, and I thought I made it into the window of being clear, but with 2 miles left to go the rain dumped down on me!
It was actually quite enjoyable and I stomped through the puddles.
Friday – 4 miles, 9:43 pace. It was a nice morning, decided to get back out and run. But it ended up being a very challenging run! Same route, different feeling today. And by mile 3 I got a shin splint. Yeouch! I iced it several times during the day. It was pretty bad! Of course it went away just as quickly as it appeared, and by bedtime it was gone. Go figure!
Saturday – “rest day”. Yard work and a trip to Cedar Point in the afternoon! It was opening day for the park. They were bit understaffed so the food lines were dreadfully slow and it seemed like half the rides were closed. Note to self, don’t go on opening day!
Sunday – 3.17 miles, 9:05 pace. Sydney got a free birthday coffee drink coupon, so I told her I’d take her this morning if she ran with me. Initially she teased me that she couldn’t run that slow (9:40 pace). She did slow down for me though, and I was reminded on why I wear headphones most days when I run (eeek, the heavy breathing!!). However she kept asking how far we had run, so I’m thinking I still win in the distance running. Drinks were had (decaf for her), and everyone was happy 🙂
Q: How’s your week going so far?
Q: Do you have a favorite flower?
Tulips are my favorite!! I wish they weren’t so fragile, and short lived.
Q: Anyone have any favorite hair product to control frizz??
Just got back to Chicago from Pittsburgh. Went over for the Pittsburgh Marathon and ran the half. Eight of us went together and all stayed in the same AirBNB. The friend who rented it is, shall we say……thrifty? The place was a dump in a very sketchy neighborhood. 100 year old house that smelled like it had not been aired out since then. 8 people (5 men and 3 women) in 3 bedrooms with 1 bathroom. We just had to laugh and make the most of it. Everyone had a good race, the forecasted rain held off until after the race, and we had a great time. Might go back next year, but, if we do, we will definitely be staying at the Embassy Suites where some other friends were staying. Fortunately, they let us use their shower after the race. I can’t help you with the hair frizz issue or the favorite flower, but, you would have enjoyed running at the Arboretum this morning. All of their tulips were blooming in every color imaginable.
I can’t even imagine a house with just one bathroom! I’m to the point now where a place with 2 bathrooms is almost a must for our family of 4! Well, mostly due to teenage daughter hogging it all of the time 🙂
I can just imagine the Arboretum is beautiful with all of the flowers right now! Enjoy that!
