It has been a slow week for me, running wise. I had to take 3 days off due to an injury. But I finished strong. All the stuff in the middle was all good too, so no complaints! Sheltering in place. Avoiding everyone. COVID-19 be damned! Let’s get this rolling….

Miles run: 17.5

Monday – 4 easy miles.  Oof. I’m feeling pretty beat up from my “long run” yesterday (12 miles).  Not sure why, but my body is just in pain! The first mile was stiff, and then got better.  But being at work, sitting around, I feel like I’ve been dropped off a roof every time I have to get up.   ugh. And look, it snowed last night!!

Tuesday – Strength Circuit, XT day.  My body is feeling quite a bit better, but I still have a noticeable pain on the right side.  I am very familiar with hamstring pain, but this feels more like a strain. Very tender. On the circuit workout I swapped out the squats for an arm workout instead.

I also tried an Orange Theory Fitness workout with my son.  I think these workouts need some group motivation because with the two of us, it didn’t work out so good.  But we had quite a few laughs and it was just what I needed.

Wednesday – 3.5 miles.  This workout was called “Stress Relief Pyramid”.  Intervals. I completely planned to go for a run outside this morning, but after looking at the cold dark streets outside, I said Nope and hit the treadmill instead.  Also took it very easy as I’m still feeling some hamstring issues. “No running injury was ever healed by running more” I beg to differ (just kidding but I’m the worst at “not running”).  Here’s my outdoor gear just waiting to be used…. I had good intentions!

Our Wii U is also enjoying the attention it is getting. We’ve been having some friendly competitions. I won on my favorite Just Dance songs, which is cool because I am always totally devastated on Mario Kart!!

Thursday – walking, 3.5 miles.  Strength circuit and core work. I was bummed that I couldn’t run (stupid pain is still there!), but I was actually feeling very positive thinking of the summer mornings I get to run when the neighborhood is still asleep and the sun is just peeking through.  I can’t wait for that… but until then, I must behave.

Friday – walking.  again. walking. The world is falling apart and I’m complaining that I can’t run.  I know, how rude of me. But I feel like you will all kind of get what I’m saying here. 🙁  Anyhow, another day of rest, 2 miles walked in the neighborhood. But look what I did find in my yard!!

For some extra credit in German class, I helped my son make a Black Forest cake.  Yummm!

Saturday – still no running, but I’m crushing on “doing all the other stuff”!  I signed up for the trial Peloton subscription, so I tried my first workout. I wanted to do a cycling class, but that didn’t feel so good on my glutes!  Instead I did a strength workout and a core workout. I got to do a break dancer pose. Then I played our Wii and did a whole bunch of songs on Just Dance.  I have to crush all of the kids on my favorite songs 🙂

Later in the day I did an upper body workout on yet another trial subscription.  Perhaps you saw that Chris Hemsworth has a workout/food program? I have yet to actually find Chris working out on it, but I’ll keep looking.  Hahaha!!! My son joined me on the workout. We got swole.

Sunday – 10 miles, long run.  Hooray!! I woke up feeling no pain.  Today’s the day! Also excited about this run because it was 60 degrees outside and sunny.  Woohoo! By the end of my run I did feel a little pinch of pain, so fingers crossed it didn’t flare it up again.

And then I signed up to take the Virtual Half Marathon option for Glass City.  This is actually a very generous offering because people who were registered for 2020 Glass City can run the virtual race (even switch between the half and full) AND are transferred to the 2021 race automatically.  Not a lot of races are offering both options!

THEN, I signed up myself and my son to run a series of FREE virtual races!  “Stomp the Virus Virtual Races”. You can pick your distances, and they are happening over the next 4 weeks.  So I picked 5K’s for both of us, and the last week is my birthday week, so we’re going to run 5.2 miles for our last “race”!  He’s going to be thrilled when I tell him that. LOL!!! If you’re in the area and would like to join in the fun, click here for more details.

Q: How about it, have you watched the Tiger King???

OMG, right??

Q: Do you have any big projects you are working on now that you might have more free time?

I’m finishing up a scrapbook project. It’s coming along great!

  1. We’re finishing up Tiger King and could it be any more bizzare? They’re like the poster children for meth abuse.

You had a nice week in spite of your injury. Glad it calmed down enough for you to get out and run. Aren’t all the virtual options–both workouts and races–great?

    1. The virtual races and online workouts are great! Our training group is also having challenges, like make shapes on Strava, scavenger hunts, etc. I haven’t been able to join in them yet, but they look really fun!
OMG, and that scene where the cop said they call it “meth mouth” and then the husband is in the next shot smiling???? priceless.

  2. I hope your hamstring issues resolve themselves ASAP! I dealt with (misdiagnosed) hamstring issues for 2 years! After going through PT, seeing a chiropractor for ART, seeing my family doctor, etc…none of which helped, I finally found an ortho guy who solved the problem in a week! It probably helped that he was an Ironman athlete himself.

Trying to convince the hubby to watch Tiger King! 🙂

    1. That would be amazing if my issues were just something that could be fixed with a correction of some sort! I have not been to a chiropractor yet. It’s always a decision of money and time for me. Seems like you could visit 4 different doctors and get different answers from everyone, ya know?
We still have 2 episodes left on Tiger King. Will watch that tonight. It’s sooooooo crazy!!

  3. I have not watched the Tiger King but keep seeing people mention it on Facebook. That good? That is great that you can do the virtual race and are deferred for 2021. Yeah, not too many races are offering both options. What are you doing to do about the hamstring issue? I hope it isn’t a major issue.

    1. I guess the issue was just a “pull” (lesser injury than a strain?) since it calmed down. It’s just the same old story most days for my hamstrings. My goal is to keep the mileage down now and swap out days for walks as needed. It’s so hard to dial back from a marathon training plan – at least it is for me, ego wise!
The Tiger King show starts out a bit boring on the first episode because they are setting the story, but hold on tight, it gets whacked out crazy, shocker after shocker!! I think it’s a distraction we all need right now 🙂

  4. I am sorry that you continue to have hamstring issues. Maybe a good time to dial it back?? My husband has me watching tiger king as well. Not sure what I think yet. Thanks for linking up!

    1. We have two more episodes. So far every one of them ends with my hands on my face in shock, and saying “yes, we need to watch the next one, I can’t believe this!!” 🙂
Even though I did sign up for the virtual “races”, I really don’t plan on pushing it on any of them. Even the 5K’s. Those are purely to get my son out running with me!

  5. We got sucked into Tiger King last weekend…zoos already often make me sad so seeing all these wild animals in captivity, at some points not very well cared for, made me so sad. I did see that “meth mouth’ husband did get his teeth fixed. You would have thought he would have done that a long time ago…

Anyways, glad the injury was short lived. A 10 miler in sun/60 sounds so nice! Way to go!

    1. Meth is just so gross- and disgusting what it does to your teeth in addition to ruining your life! I can’t even imagine that lifestyle. I was shocked at the number of animals in those zoos. I also had no idea so many people had exotic animals. I still remember when that place in Zanesville OH let all of the animals loose. So terribly sad 🙁

  6. That black forrest cake looked delicious! I’m going to make cupcakes this week. Definitely not “shelter in place” friendly but I feel like now is the time to indulge, just a little 🙂

Yeah..the OTF at home workouts this week haven’t been that great. I really only liked 2 of them, but hopefully the ones this week will be better!

    1. We watched the first one – which I think probably has changed in format since that one. They mentioned something about pausing the video, but then continued the countdown, so I figured it was just the first stab at it. I know your classes are awesome in real life, so I’m sure they will improve online!
I’m not a cherry fan, but I did like the cake a lot! I mean, “cake”, what’s not to love!! 🙂

  7. I’m glad that you finally finished out the week feeling pretty pain free, fingers crossed you’re over the hump there.

Love your bulbs! Daffodils are FINALLY beginning to bloom, although I think ti’s actually early for here.

You have been keeping yourself busy even without running!

I’ve been working on a big project a while now. Every time I think it’s getting close to release, life seems to throw us a curveball. 🙁

  8. Glad the injury is feeling better! Isn’t Tiger King a nasty train wreck? Honestly, I had no idea there were so many animals like that in captivity…SO sad! And I think Joe was set up, big time. ALL the others should be in there with him, including Carole.

  9. Whew! I’m glad that running went well today. It’s a funny thing with running injuries, some need time off and some need lower intensity running to clear up. I tried a few minutes of Tiger King, but kind of what Jessie said, when the snow leopard in the van came on I got the feeling that there might be some animal things that I didn’t want to see, so I bailed. I need a good trashy OMG show, it might be time for me to check out season 3 of Mama June from Not to Hot.

    1. Even more of a shocker – they made 3 seasons of Mama June?? I did watch one of them. Yikes. I didn’t think there was really much if any animal abuse in the show. That really would have bothered me. It’s all about the whacky people, not so much the animals!

  10. If ever a runner NEEDS to run is when the world is falling apart I say!! I use running as my coping mechanism so I totally get you. There is talk of there being a lockdown in the next couple of days which means we won’t even be able to run outside. I’ve asked hubby to oil my treadmill in case that happens. I haven’t used it in months. Hate the treadmill but at least that’s an option. SO GLAD your Sunday Run was a good one, and hopefully the pain you felt at the end remains at bay. Well done also for signing up for some virtual races!

  11. TIGER KING!!!! That’s the best worst show going right now. I watched it through once, and am watching it again with my husband. Who is (rightfully) horrified.

Not doing anything major right now. I still can’t do heavy lifting or really dig deep into any manual labor like painting or getting back in closets, so I will just have to wait.

    1. Scrapbooking doesn’t require any heavy work… maybe you have one of those projects laying around the house? 🙂 My daughter wants to paint her bathroom. We might be doing that soon!

  12. I love that your son is working out with you – so fun!

In my newfound time, I’ve been working on my sons’ baby books – entering the things that I’d slipped into their books on little scraps of paper like when they’d gotten potty trained, put their socks and shoes on by themselves, etc. Mind you, they’re now 30 and 32 years old. Better late than never, right?

Have a great rest of your week and stay safe!

  13. I don’t feel like I have more free time, i feel like I have less- ha! I’m glad your hamstring felt better by the end of the week. Hopefully it doesn’t give you any more trouble!
