Hi everyone! It was kind of a “meh” week around here. We had snow, which looked really pretty, but after it melted we were left with the dull winter skies. I’ve had a questionable ankle issue and my hamstrings have not been feeling the best again. But, I’m doing my best and staying active. Miles run = 23.

Let’s start with a fun picture from our last mountain biking day last Sunday.  I get so excited when I ride the trails and don’t fall. I’m getting much better!  Even going over stuff in the skills park which scared me before.  I’m not sure how much we will ride the trails now because we don’t have fat tires on the bikes, although I think they will still do OK (but not great).

Mon – 2.5 miles, treadmill.  I had different plans for today, but that didn’t work out.  I was actually going to work at home first thing in the morning, but my remote connection is still not set up. I know this does not sound exciting, but for someone who hasn’t had the opportunity to skip a 20 min commute to work and work remotely, it’s a big deal! In the evening I did a strength workout and yoga class on Peloton.

Speaking of deals… did anyone get any great Cyber Monday deals?  Marathonfoto was offering deals on old races, so I finally pulled the trigger on some pictures from my Boston 2015 race!  Better late than never, right?  I love the shot of Alan and I chatting on the course.  And Alan said it looks like I am walking on the finish line shot. LOL!!  Not true.  I did not walk one step of my Boston race and I’m darn proud it! (I have walked on many other marathons though, no shame in that!)

Tues – Rest day!  I realized I haven’t had a rest day for 6 days, and my body was feeling it. My foot, under my ankle, was especially feeling wonky.  I runfess that it felt that way after last Friday’s run and I still ran on it Saturday and Sunday.  Not my best idea.  But hopefully some rest will help it out!  We got a little bit of snow too!  It made all of the xmas lights look so pretty.

Weds – 40 mins elliptical.  My ankle was still feeling slightly questionable, so elliptical workout it is!  I did another Peloton workout with my son.

On a whim, we decided to go out to dinner… at the place with the huge pretzels!  Glad we got the workout in first!

Thurs – Spin class!  Or is it called a cycling class?  I’m not even sure, but I finally did a Peloton cycling workout.  Yep, I dusted off my old spin bike and gave it a try.  My bike is pretty basic, so I had no clue what the different speed or resistance settings were, but I adjusted the best I could.  I took a beginner class and I liked all of the detailed instruction.  It wasn’t terrible! Haha!  I’ll try it again I’m sure.

5.4 miles, trail running. I ran with Alan and his watch only said 5 miles.  That’s quite a difference!  I think mine was more correct because I thought this pace was really tiring and his pace showed slower. 🙂  It was pretty in the woods.  39 free Starbucks drinks left.  This one was a Caramel Brulee Frappuccino.  Ok, but my fav is probably still mocha/chocolate based.

We went shopping… I’d love to have this guy!! He was so huggable!

Fri – 3 miles, treadmill.  Only time for a few treadmill miles today.  Lots of places to go, people to see and things to do today!

Sat – 12.3 miles.  I was going to go for 8 or 10 miles, but I ran into my friend so I went a few miles more.  It happened to be the person who is coaching the 9:30-10:00 pace group with me!  This will be a fun training season.  We start in January!  Our goal race is the Glass City Marathon, on April 25th.  Those extra miles I ran seemed like a good idea back at mile 6 when I turned around, but you’ll notice my odd mileage… I ended up walking the last part to my house.  Ooof.  My hamstrings were not liking that one bit! Later in the day my ankle wasn’t feeling 100% either.  I will be taking a break from my Brooks test shoes to see if that’s the issue 🙁

Sun – 40 mins elliptical.  A rest day from running.  I have more Starbucks escapades to tell you about.  Starting this weekend, through Dec 27th, all Starbucks Visa cardholders get 2 free coffees each weekend!! Wow! Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino for me and Java chip for my son.  I’ll get to stretch my free drinks out even farther now. 🙂

Also, a fashion question… does anyone else have faux leather leggings? I’m trying to embrace some new styles and it’s definitely something I feel a little self conscious wearing! [ignore the messy closet!]

  1. Wait, is that your closet? Love it!!

How fun that that you took a Peloton bike class. Cycling class? Same thing. 🙂 I love Cody’s classes because he always makes them FUN.

What is up with the ankle?

Gosh, now I wished I had a Starbucks CC. I am missing out on so much.

    1. I’m shocked at how many rewards the CC gives you. I’m assuming that is not just a first year thing. My ankle is worrying me. I’ve never had that issue. Maybe my foot is rolling over too far? Not enough support? I’m not sure, but it’s annoying. Yes, that’s my closest! I’m also a thrifty shopper (garage sales, etc) so it’s kinda packed full. I just went to the Goodwill this weekend and got several Ann Taylor Loft items and other name brands. Hard to resist the good finds!

  2. I haven’t had Starbucks since early March! Since I don’t leave my house much, I just haven’t been to one. I think one day when the weather isn’t nice I’m just going to drive over to a drive through one and get a holiday drink sometime this month. It’s not convenient, but will give us something to do!
Hope the ankle and hamstring feel better!

    1. I have been going inside to pick up my drinks. The drive throughs are crazy busy with cars lined out into the street – maybe 7 to 9 cars waiting? I don’t have the patience for that! I do order ahead on the app, so the wait isn’t too bad usually.

  3. Oh no, I hope your hamstring and ankle feel better quickly – you’ll want to be 100% when you start coaching in January!

My neighbor has a fat tire bike and even got one for his kindergarten grade daughter. It’s the funniest thing to see her riding it when most little girls her age are on pink bikes with training wheels.

BTW, I thought of you when I hung my “You Should Read My Blog” ornament! It will always bring a smile to my face. 😀

    1. I always wondered why people had several bikes, and now that I’m riding I see why! It’s an expensive hobby if you want to ride all the time! But so fun 🙂
Yay – I’m glad you enjoy the ornament!

  4. I’m glad your ankle didn’t hold you back too much. My achilles has been iffy after my long run last weekend — I think my shoes wasn’t laced tight enough so my ankle moved around too much. As much as I love Starbucks, I couldn’t get my money’s worth from the VISA. Especially with working from home I barely get their once a week. 😉 Love that your son works out with you!

    1. The annual fee is free the first year, so I’m just soaking in the deals. I do think they would give you enough freebies to cover the $49 annual fee, but still, I don’t see myself renewing it. I get more joy from free (rewards) Athleta clothes using my no annual fee Old Navy card!

  5. Oooh, those leather pants are hot (even if they’re faux LOL). Have you tried wearing them tucked into riding boots or with booties? They’re a neat dressy option without having to be all decked-out from head to toe. I have a pair of faux suede pants…somewhere. I forgot about them until just now. Anyways…ugh on the ankle and hammy! I hope they’re both feeling better soon!!

    1. I would love suede pants! I had a suede skirt I used to wear all the time. I just got the leather leggings today. So many ways to wear them! I started following a stylist on FB and IG and I’m trying to step my casual wear up a notch and not wear race t-shirts all the time. It’s hard to break out of my usual attire!

  6. I have not been to a Starbucks since March! crazy! I don’t even get one at the grocery anymore bc we cannot take off the mask to drink it so no point. I did used to love strolling around in there w my coffee. Sorry your hamstring is acting up. I have to keep up with my hip exercises or everything just acts up very quickly. Do you still do those exercise you told me about? Take care of yourself!

    1. I am the WORST about staying on a PT plan. I wrote up all the exercises I should be doing everyday, and made a little chart, but still I put it off and don’t do it 🙁 I am trying to get back on that plan I told you about. I know what I need to do – just need the motivation to get it done!
My daughter said they are patrolling the door now at her work (a grocery store) to make sure everyone is wearing a mask when they enter the store. I’m surprised they weren’t doing that before. But yes, a lot of people enjoy grocery shopping with a Starbucks! Bummer it can’t be done.

  7. I hope that your ankle and hamstring feel better soon!

I really want that huge Ilama – he looks so cuddly.

I’m still mad at Starbucks for discontinuing the Gingerbread Latte – that was my favorite holiday drink! I’ve tried the eggnog latte which is pretty good but I still miss my favorite, lol.

    1. You have encouraged me to try the eggnog drink. I’ve been debating on getting it! I forgot to mention – the llama was $600!! But that’s at Kohls, so you could probably get it 50% and get some sweet Kohls cash too 🙂

  8. That’s not a messy closet at all 🙂 You should see mine, ha! We live in an old 1920’s house so my closet has actually expanded into multiple other closets as well.

I do have a pair of Spanx faux leather leggings that I wear with a lot of oversized sweaters. I love them!

I hope the ankle pain goes away- hopefully not Achilles!

    1. I think you have posted a picture of you wearing them! I think I’ll be able to wear them a few different ways. They’re a keeper! Oh no, I hope it’s not Achilles too.

  9. I can’t ignore that closet because I want it! So much room! Our closets are small. 🙁

Anyhoo . . . so sorry about the various niggles. That’s a pain (yes, that was intentional.

You definitely deserve Boston photos! I’ve had some photos where it looks like I’m walking when I’m most definitely not.

That pretzel. Oh my. It looks amazing. I think I’m glad I don’t have a restaurant near here that serves that up!

    1. I wish I had some better shots from Boston, but those were it. But if I ever make it back there I will buy the whole package and make a point to smile big at every camera!!
I do love our closet… but it’s like a big purse – the bigger the space, the more stuff you put in it (and lots of stuff you don’t need).

  10. I thought of you when I had my bday Starbucks drink. Barista tried to encourage me to go for a venti or treinta, but I couldn’t. Loved the soy peppermint mocha frapp, that was new to me.
I have a pair of leather leggings bought on a whim for an event and I’m a fan. Hope your ankles and hammies behave

    1. I tried one of the cold brews last week (new to me) and didn’t realize there was a treinta size until I got to that drink. Oh man, I was buzzed on caffeine all day long!! Yikes! I get my money’s worth and order the venti size all the time 😉 Happy belated birthday!

  11. The leggings look great on you, but I’ve never been quite sure how to wear them for myself. I feel like I’d need a chunky shoe or boot to make the look work.

Peloton is new to me but I’ve really liked the classes, especially the yoga. I never really did yoga before this week and suddenly I’m hooked. Fingers crossed that the hammies and ankle start feeling better. I guess it’s an easy fix if it’s the shoes. I’m obsessed with Launch but when I tried another Brooks shoe this summer it was a disaster. It was a much softer shoe and for some reason it just put a lot of strain on my legs.

    1. I’ve been checking out all of the style blogs for options. I do have chunky boots and they also mentioned athletic shoes or flats, depending on the top. Athletic shoes? Why yes, I have a few pairs! LOL

  12. Funny that your watch and Alan’s showed different mileage for the same run. I have been dealing with this issue for awhile now. On a 5 mile run, Garmin will say I ran less than my Apple Watch and Strava says I ran more! The further I run, the more the discrepancy. If I take my iPhone along (which I hate to do) it will match the Garmin. Weather here has been great for runners but sucks for skiers. We NEED snow!

    1. I know – my watch said we were running 9:35 and his said 10:15! It sure felt more like 9:35. I was exhausted running around in the woods with him!
I don’t think we will make it out of Ohio or Michigan for skiing this year. What a bummer.

  13. Hope your ankle is ok! I got the Marathon Foto emails and didn’t even think about my Boston races being included in that. Ha! Fun run down memory lane. We missed the snow and could use a coating only for asthetic purposes. The whole leather legging thing is very hot right now according to my 19 yr old.

  14. Weather is so cold here. I’m over it.

I am not trendy at all. Tragically unhip. From what I hear, the best leather leggings are spanx, but they are super tight, and I can’t have that much compression on my recovered ankle. It hurts. 🙁

That pretzel, tho! I want it!

    1. I have heard great things about the Spanx too. I didn’t want to spend the $$ for Spanx, so it was Target shopping for me 😃 If you want a pair, they are really very compressive. I’ve been trying to expand my outfits beyond race t-shirts and jeans (although they are so comfy!).

  15. I got pleather leggings for a Goth anti-Valentine’s party in February… wore it with a tight black top, boots, and purple lipstick. 🙂 Then I haven’t worn them since, because I never go anywhere (thanks, COVID!). Good on you for trying something new, fashion-wise… just cuz we’re stuck near home doesn’t mean we can’t dress up. It’s something to do!!

    1. I still dress up for my job (at a bank) so I get to wear pants all the time – just not skin tight pants. 😆 We actually have a pretty restrictive wardrobe for work, but I’m fine with it.

  16. And here I was all excited about free Starbucks for healthcare workers all month! Nothing fancy tho, just a regular coffee. It’s the little things, really!

I don’t have faux leather leggings but I do have some sweater ones that I wear under long sweaters and tunics. I love them. So comfy. They look great on you, you can pull it off!

    1. Sweater leggings sound really comfy! Now I just need somewhere to wear them 🙂 I didn’t know Starbucks was offering that free coffee. That’s nice. You deserve it all year!
