Looking back at my week I realize it was a short week for work, but seemed like a really long week! I got outside a lot. I ran a lot of miles (46.6) which is the most I’ve run since last March.  Overall I’m feeling better than last year at this time I think, but I still have work to do on my injuries (which now includes a stiff knee and a huge blister on my big toe.  Uggghhh).  We got dumped on with snow this week and I loved it!

Mon – 6.35 miles running. Happy Presidents Day! 🙂 I got to run outside, which is not my norm due to the holiday (hooray for banking holidays!).  I ran through the snow covered trail.  Easy run, lots of fun!  It was so quiet out and I only saw one other runner.

We enjoyed a family hike through the snow at the park too. So fun!

My daughter even joined in our workout!

Tues – 5.5 miles, treadmill. HAPPY SNOW DAY!! The big snow hit Ohio last night and we woke to a Level 3 snow emergency, so I got to work from home!  We got 12 inches of snow and our track night was cancelled.  Luckily my track workout on the treadmill went wonderful. It was  4 x 800m, and 4 x 400m with 1 min rest.  I did each interval faster, which was not on the plan, but I was embracing how good the run felt.  This run got an A++.  Celebrating Mardi Gras too 🙂

Working at home was my dream come true.  I’m sure all of you remote workers are probably rolling your eyes, but it’s a HUGE deal for me.  I ran, and 5 mins later I was logged on to work. No joke, it happened.  I enjoyed having the luxuries of working at home, until I realized I didn’t have a power cable for my laptop and the battery died within ½ hour of my quitting time.  OOPS.  I still did some work stuff, but it was not from my work laptop.

When the snow emergency lifted, we drove to a nearby park to check out all of the snow.  Our hike through the woods was short since the path wasn’t plowed.  No matter, I truly love snow and the clean landscape it leaves behind.

Weds – 6 miles, treadmill.  Since I had a full day between runs, I kept with the Weds run per the schedule.  After work I went to PT.  Ouch.  Almost shed a few tears from the manipulations 😂 My evening workout was named “pump” and dang, we really worked the arms. Inverted pushups are no joke! My son crushed them.

Thurs – 8.5 miles, speedwork.  This run was 6 miles of intervals –  4 mins on, 1 min off.  My path was slightly snowy, and I wasn’t looking at my watch, so I was pleased to see my “on” pace was a bit faster than race pace on most intervals.  I also wore ski goggles to protect my eyes from snow, and they turned out to be a nice toasty addition to my gear!

Fri – 5 miles, easy.  Not sure this run was my best choice because I was feeling sore right from the start, and hadn’t dressed warm enough, but I needed to check out the trail conditions.  Part of my job as a coach is creating a safe and entertaining course for our group.  I am glad I checked it out because my original course route was deep in snow.  No go on that trail!

I also saw a “snow dog”!  It’s kind of like a rainbow, but happens when it’s snowy and cold.

Sat – 15 miles, long run.  It was another cold one (shocker!), feels like -4 when we started.  I was excited to wear my new Columbia jacket, and luckily it worked well with a few layers underneath.  In fact, with hand warmers I was getting a bit too warm!  Our half marathoners ran 8 miles and the full ran 15 miles.  Not going to lie, this one was a bit uncomfortable after mile 6, but I got it done.

Long run was followed by a hot bath, food, and nap 🙂  In the afternoon we tried to go snowshoeing at the park, but the interest level was high and they were sold out of shoe rentals.  Bummer.

Sun –  2 miles walking.  Got out in the morning and enjoyed the beautiful snow.  The weather will be warming in the upcoming week and our snow will be melting 🙁  Ah, it was good while it lasted.

Q: How’s the weather where you live? Are you over it yet, just waiting for Spring?

Spring is my least favorite season. Too much mud! 🙂

Q: Have you ever heard of a snow dog (or seen one)? It was new to me!

  1. I have seen snow dogs! They’re cool!

Good job getting in all that hard work under challenging conditions.

We were originally forecast to get a lot of snow, but it didn’t happen & that makes me happy. Have I said recently that I truly do not like Winter? Never have! You can’t change it, though, so I try my best to embrace it. Not as much as you, but as much as is comfortable for me. 🙂

    1. I’m one of those crazy snow lovers! I would be happy to live in the mountains and enjoy a long winter season! I was just excited to get that level 3 snow emergency. We had our last one a few years ago. I remember when I was a kid and had the “Blizzard of ’78”. That was a HUGE deal and our most snow in the area.

  2. There was so much snow and ice this week. Mother Nature must really be angry with us, lol.

Another great week of workouts for you. I always love that exercise is such a family affair too!

  3. I’m glad your training is going well! I’m excited for one of we bloggers to have an actual in person marathon 🙂 So fun!

Yes…working from home is THE BEST 🙂 I am not ready to transition back.

    1. It was a good week – but I’m feeling it now. Luckily it’s a cutback week and hopefully that will help. I bet – I wouldn’t mind having maybe every 4th week as a work at home week!

  4. Sounds like a great week for you! Running in the deep snow is tough–been there, done that a few times this winter. We’re going to start the thaw this week. I’m not going to complain. I like the snow but I’m ready for spring.

    1. I do have a lot of friends that complain about the snow, but really, are they MY friends?? 🙂 You gotta like snow to hang with me! I think the other thing I don’t like about spring is the wind. Always rainy windy days in the spring.

  5. Surprisingly, I have not seen any sundogs this season. I think they’re caused by the ice crystals reflecting the sun’s rays (on really, really cold days). We’ve definitely had the cold weather LOL Obviously, you like (love!) the snow a lot more than I do. I think it’s a nice change of scenery, and I don’t mind running on it while it’s here, but we’ve had just too much of it in Iowa this season…and we’re getting even more of it today (the joke’s on me, apparently). Great job on all your runs!! Do the ski goggles feel heavy? I’ve seen a lot of runners using them recently.

    1. The ski goggles were great! I didn’t notice I was wearing them. I felt a little silly when a car would go by, but who cares, it worked! Your area really has been hit lately. No need for super cold weather – the pretty snow will be just fine 🙂

  6. Congrats on your great week of running in the snow. I do enjoy a good snowstorm, but we mostly get wintery mixes here in the VA suburbs of DC. My hopes for 5-8 inches of snow on Thursday resulted in just over an inch of sleet. Freezing rain is in the forecast for tomorrow… 😕

My husband is loving working from home. No eye rolling on his part!

  7. I cannot imagine running in that much snow! Ha, I am a wimp. 🙂 And I know what you mean about working from home. I miss the day of walking in at 8, showering and getting ready, making breakfast, and logging in at 8:30am. I will be able to do that again tomorrow.

    1. If I worked at home I’d be the neighborhood busybody for sure. My home office window looks out to the street and I’m very intrigued by what’s happening outside!

  8. Oh my gosh! The idea of renting snowshoes is just so crazy to me! In Florida. Where, if it even thinks about snowing, everything shuts right dow LOL!

I’m glad you got to enjoy your work from home time. I know the grass is always greener, so I’m sure it was a nice treat for you.

I never heard of a snow dog! That’s so pretty!

    1. It was a bummer that the snowshoes were sold out. It probably wasn’t really as exciting as I imagined, but still, I wanted to give it a try! If the XC ski rentals were as cheap, I’d be doing that instead!

  9. Nope never heard of snow dogs.

    Cute snow angel pics.

Kudos to you on running in those temps. The hardest part is committing to doing it and it is easier if you do not have to do it alone.

Your training seems to be going so well.

We have snow on and off. Today it is so windy…that is the worst. I think I am skipping it.

  10. I’ve never heard of a snow dog! how cool! sounds like a fun week by the way!

we went from one season to the next in one week. Snow is gone and a friend and I spent the weekend tallying up how many people we saw in shorts and tank tops (even though ti wasn’t THAT warm yet).

  11. I bet it was nice to work from home! I think my favorite part is no commute. And less distractions! (other than a toddler lol). I went back to the office today and realized just how much less I get done there.

    1. I think I would have a harder time focusing at home, but I’m willing to give it a shot! I also enjoy socializing with my coworkers. My kids just stay in their rooms all day because they are in school, so I wouldn’t be talking to them. I bet that’s odd for you to go back to the office again!

  12. Great job getting in all the miles despite all the snow! Since we’ve been here in Florida all month, I’ve mostly missed out on all the blizzards that have been pummeling the Midwest lately. A small part of me is sad because I do love snow but the sun and warm breezes here are so amazing. I’m totally up for some spring!
