8 weeks done on the training plan for Glass City Marathon. I guess that means we are halfway there!! 41.5 miles of running, and 4 miles of walking. Although I was feeling sore early in the week (was it my new PT exercises?), but the time the end of the week came, I was feeling good! I still have a HUGE blister on my big toe which is freaking annoying. The weather made a huge U-turn and it seemed like Spring this week!
Mon – 6 miles easy. Nothing too exciting about this run. The big blister between my toes and it is a bit ornery. My knee is still feeling stiff, but luckily no real pain during my run. For the evening strength session, we focused on chest and triceps. Stupid me did not realize this was a ton of push ups. Ugh. Diamond tricep pushups? The worst!
Tues – 6 miles. I was unable to make track night tonight, so I met my friend for a run. Can you believe it was 45 degrees?? I could not. I packed a bag full of clothes because we met right after work. It was a challenge to figure out what to wear! Capris and a long sleeve shirt was the winner. We ran 6 miles, and it was great to chat with her. Did speedwork 2 x 2400 with 2 min rest. Glad I didn’t have to run around the indoor track for that one. It would have been a lot of laps! Looking back on this run, it was really me whining and ranting mostly. I’m so glad I’ve got friends that are willing to listen 🙂
The high school finally had the awards night for the cross country season (virtually of course). What, cross country? Seems like that was years ago. None the less, it was good to give the kids recognition for their great season and hard work. My daughter got an All-Academic team award (for having at least 3.5 grade average and being in the sport for at least 2 years), 4th year varsity pin, and she also got the Coaches Award! Wow. We were surprised because she got the Coaches Award when she was a freshman. What a nice way to end her HS XC career. We will really miss the team and cheering them on at the meets.
Weds – 5 miles running. With the temperature hitting 48 in the afternoon, it was time to bust out the shorts!! The long sleeve shirt kept my warm because it was windy. Even so, it felt great!
PM, weight session with my son.
Thurs – 8.25 miles running, 1 mile walk. This was one of the better runs that I’ve had in a long time. I think it was the shoes 🙂 I busted out my new Saucony Endorphin Speeds. I was really impressed with them. They really did make my miles seem easy!! Love them. After just one trial I’m thinking I want to wear them for the marathon! I was super pleased with my consistent pacing on my race pace miles too. Another bonus for the day – I just got an Athleta vest and was trying that out. I really liked it. Hooray for finding deals on Ebay!!
Fri – Rest day! Gym day, and an afternoon walk (1.3 miles) At night we played a game we borrowed from the library, Ticket to Ride. Our library loans out a collection of interesting things such as telescopes, electric guitars, and metal detectors. At first my family questioned how fun it would be to make train routes, but this was a hit. My daughter said we should buy one for keeps.
Sat – 16 miles, long run. We had great weather – 37 degrees. This run went much better than last week. Last week I had pain after mile 6, this week it really didn’t bother me much. Yay! Our half marathoners ran 9 miles, although several of them decided to run 10 miles, and the full ran 16 miles. From my pace group, there was only 1 person running 16 miles this week so I had a running buddy for the last hour or so. It was a nice way to get to know her.
Later I took 1 ½ mile walk with my son to enjoy the wonderful 45 degree weather. Then he made (and I helped) an impressive recipe for dinner. Alfredo Fettuccine with smoked salmon. So good! I was very impressed that he got the sauce right, because I totally suck at making sauces.
Sun – Rest day, with a walk. It’s 52 degrees out!! I’m going to wash my car. Woohoo! Heck, maybe I’ll even ride my bike for a bit. Oh, and I loved my Speeds so much, I bought a pair for my husband. Lucky him 😊

Q: Have you ever played Ticket To Ride? What other games does your family enjoy playing?
Q: How do you wash your car – soap/bucket in the driveway, carwash (manual sprayer), or drive thru carwash?
My husband believes that drive thru carwashes will scratch my car up, so we never do that. Whomp whomp. But I don’t mind washing in the driveway when it’s not freezing out!
I don’t get my car washed nearly enough! I usually do the drive through, but my husbands washed it for me a couple times too. Yay for being halfway through your training!
My car is dirty a lot more than I’d like. Every time is see a washed car I tell my kids, “there goes a rich person!” 🙂 It’s such a great feeling to have a clean car!
We have a ton of board games, but have not heard of Ticket to Ride. We had not played any of the games much in recent years. Last January, we started doing Sunday family dinners with the kids (who all are in different locations, but nearby), and we’d play a game (or two) after eating. It was so much fun! Then, Covid hit the fan…and that all stopped. Anyways, great job with all your runs and workouts. I have not done triangle push-ups in ages…but I remember how tough they are!

I think I can get through two diamond pushups. Sad!! I would love a family game night. That’s my jam!
We’ve played Ticket to Ride at my SIL’s house and liked it. I have a tough time getting the hang of the rules for most board games, so it took me a few plays but I was able to get it. Don’t tell your husband but my car wash is the one at the gas station down the street;-)

I’m a huge fan of board games! We have a really fun looking car wash with lights and swishy rags in town. Looks like a fun time. But sigh, he just doesn’t trust them! He said I could go – but if it did get scratched I’d never live it down! 😂
The warmer temps were a nice gift at the end of February. New shoes always make for a great run. Looks like a solid week for you!
The weather was crazy. Last week so much snow, this week 60 degrees. Go figure!
Congrats to your daughter on getting the coaches award v2.0! What are her plans for after high school?
We used to play a lot of games when the boys were younger. We’ve most recently been having fun with Jackbox games–Fibbage is a riot!
She will be attending the University of Toledo. So staying close by, but living on campus with two of her cross country teammates. I really like her roommates so it’s an ideal situation I think. None of the girls will be running for the University though, but I hope they keep up running together for fitness!
I’m a little envious that you and your kids do so much together! My kids would never sit down and play a board game with me (or together, for that matter) and forget working out together. Although my son does work out now and sometimes we talk about workouts or give each other ideas.
Sounds like you had a great week of running in beautiful weather!
🙂 It will be super odd when my daughter goes to college in the fall. The dynamics of the house will be throw out of whack! But my son and I have had forced time together lately because he’s learning to drive. I am not minding that one bit!!
Congrats on hitting the halfway point of your training. That marathon is going to sneak up fast now. Nicer weather makes all the difference doesn’t it? Congrats to your daughter on a great XC season. That awards night is so bittersweet. Has she decided on a college?
Yes, she is heading to the University of Toledo. Which is where my husband and I both went for our bachelors and masters degrees. Go Rockets! 🙂 I really was surprised at the award. She deserved it, but I figured they wouldn’t give the same people awards more than once!
My father in law was a professor in the law school there for many years!
Great week of running. Love those warmer temps. Blisters suck though.
My hubby has unlimited car washes and goes all the time. He’s obsessed.
I do go to the car wash but only now and then.
Clean cars are so wonderful in the winter – and so hard to keep clean! Now I need to get motivated to vacuum out all of the winter dirt and crud. haha!
What a great week you had! So glad the runs felt so much better, except for the blister. The only time I got one was in a half, and I wasn’t running afterward anyway. It was really painful that day, but ok the next.
Congrats to your daughter on all her accolades!
The game sounds interesting! We don’t do games. i can’t get my husband interested.
You’re supposed to wash your car? Seriously, occasionally my husband takes pity on me & does it. I never do. It’s going on 21 years, so maybe that’s the secret, LOL!
My blister is finally flattening out! Phew! I was ready to make a Dr’s appt and whine to him about it 🙂 We tend to get pretty competitive on our game nights at our house. We take it seriously! Who knew making train routes could be so competitive!
I don’t love playing board games, but I have heard good things about Ticket To Ride. I like Trivial Pursuit, Cards Against Humanity and Scrabble, though.
A loves to wash cars, so we just let him do it with a bucket and hose. We have some really top notch, touchless car washes around here, too, so we will run through those some days.
Great job on your workouts and congratulations to your daughter on her XC season!
(Now I want fetttucine alfredo)
That’s great that your son like washing cars! And cooking! I was skeptical about the recipe because I don’t think I’ve ever eaten salmon before. I’m not a big fan of seafood. But it was really yummy! I need to broaden my horizons and try more seafood.
Bummer about the blister, but otherwise such a great week of training! Thursday’s run looked strong. And 16 miles- woohoo! You’re getting up there in mileage already.
I’m getting to the point in training when I say things like “oh, I only have 6 miles today”! Someone mentioned the race was next month. Eeek!
Hey congrats to your daughter on her awards! Must be nice especially now to be recognized for how hard she worked and obviously her sportswomanship 🙂
isn’t it nice how new shoes can just make the run feel so much better!
I’ve never heard of Ticket to Ride. I actually did not grow up playing games and am consequently a terrible game player. Like “most likely to get angry when losing” type of player. Hey at least I admit it 😀
We take the car to the car wash. Maybe it sounds crappy but we have a lease car so… we do take car of it and I never noticed any scratches from the car wash. But I used to work at a car was when I was younger and even back then they were not bad for your car at all.
My best friend, and nextdoor neighbor, when I was growing up was one of 5 kids. They had EVERY game. It was the best! I do love playing games. My family does get a bit competitive but it’s all good.
I really don’t think the car washes are that bad. I mean, if they were, how could they stay in business?!
Great week on your runs and strength workouts! You must have been so relieved to run 16 miles without last week’s pain. Hope your blister on your toe heals quickly.
I do take my car through the carwash, but now I almost always have my bike rack attached to the hitch so I’m not sure how the carwash would handle that. If “we” wash it at home, my husband does it.

I know the marathon will be painful, but I’m super happy considering I didn’t know how I was going to get through the training cycle back we ran only 8 miles!
I am taking my car to the dealer for them to check the battery and a few other things. I hope they wash it too. Great job on your 16 miles! You are doing so well in your marathon training. Congrats to your daughter! No kitty pictures? 🙂

We went to look at a new car last week and I was hoping they would wash my car while I visited. haha!! I sure hope they wash yours. I always assume they are going to!
My “regular” cats really don’t get much love on the blog, do they? The foster kittens are really the stars of the show. I hope we’ll foster again this year.
