It was a busy week around here, but this year I felt ready for Christmas so it wasn’t rushed in any way. We got to see family and friends, and eat lots of treats! I completed my 12 Days of Christmas challenge and ran 25 miles this week (walked 2 miles, biked 2 miles).

Mon – 38 mins of walking on the treadmill for my “Day 8” of the “12 days of Christmas” workout.  Surprisingly it was nice to even just walk on the treadmill in the morning and despite it not causing any sweat, it was a nice active start to the day.

Tues – 4 miles treadmill.  I did have grand plans of running and doing some sort of strength workout this morning, but staying up late wrapping presents and enjoying a cocktail did not help motivate me to get out of bed.  But, I did get my “12 days of Christmas” run done, so winning!

Weds – 4 miles running. It was my day off and I spent the morning baking some delicious coffee cakes.  They are chocolate / cherry cakes which are our traditional treat for Christmas morning.

Then we saw Spider-Man!  So good!

At night it was our annual Christmas lights run with our friends, followed by half price pizza night.  Unfortunately my husband and I ended up doing this as run/walk because he was having some issues catching his breath.  Still, we made it for the pictures and the gathering afterwards.

Thurs – 5 miles, treadmill.  I woke up early today, and it was going to be a busy day, so I ran and got my 11th day of 12 Days of Christmas run done.  I also had time for some stretching after my run. Winning! We drove around looking at more light displays at night. It’s hard to capture how good these lights are with synchronized music, but trust me, I’m sure it took a lot of hard work!

Fri – 5 miles, in shorts!  Ok, another running day in shorts??  I did get in the holiday spirit with my red shirt, but it really didn’t feel like Christmas Eve!

We went downtown to see the holiday light displays.  Very pretty!

Sat – Merry Christmas!  For all who celebrate, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!  We had a relaxing day of sleeping in, ripping open Christmas presents and eating.

I got a nice gift – a Garmin Edge 530 for my bike.  I’m so excited!  I had to take it out for a few miles on my bike to test it out.  I’m really looking forward to using it! [I rode around without taking the sticker off of it!!]

Sun – 7 miles “long run”.  I was just in the grove this morning. It was cold, crisp and frosty out.  The roads were peaceful and I was just chugging along.  8:41 avg pace on this, with my last “sprint to the finish” hitting 7:50.  Hooray!  Great way to end the week.

We had a holiday party at my parents house and it was great to see my extended family again.  It’s been a long time since I’ve seen them!

  1. What a great week, and your Christmas sounds perfect 😉 Kind of a somewhat green Christmas here this year, which was really odd. I think the temps got as high as mid-50’s by the afternoon. I have not been to a movie since Bohemian Rhapsody or A Star is Born (I think?)…I like going, but I just don’t make the time to do it.

  2. Sounds like a great week & holiday! It feels so nice to celebrate with family, doesn’t it? Although I might avoid my brother when he flies in the end of January (I guess it depends what COVID has up its sleeve then).

Those cakes look amazing & cherry + chocolate is always alright in my book!

I keep thinking about doing a lights run, but the problem is my shorter recovery runs are when I wash my hair — it takes forever to dry so I can’t wash it at night. Priorities!

  3. Love that idea about a lights run with friends. I do run often with lights. I will miss them.

That’s so nice that you spent the holiday with family.

    What a perfect gift. Enjoy.

  4. Looks like a fun and festive holiday to me! It’s been so mild here I swear the grass is “greening up” a bit. Yikes! We neglected to do our annual holiday lights drive around. Maybe tonight!

  5. I love your Christmas tree! It sounds like the whole week was great. The picture of your frosty run ALMOST makes me long for snow on Christmas… almost.

  6. What lovely pictures, thank you for sharing. I had to giggle at this, “delicious coffee cakes. They are chocolate / cherry cakes” as I was just reading one blog post before this in Separated by A Common Language how Americans call any cake they might eat with coffee a coffee cake, whereas we call a cake made with coffee flavouring and NO OTHER kind of cake a coffee cake!

I am glad you got to see family. I saw my husband’s brother and his wife and kids, mum and dad and sister in law’s mum and dad for the first time since late 2019 yesterday!
