The temps were up and down this week. It started out with sunny warmth and dropped into some serious fall temps! I got through 42.5 miles running and 24.5 miles biking. Even a few random strength workouts here and there. Here’s what was happening this week…

Mon – 5 miles, treadmill.  TV time again!  I’ve got a lot of shows to watch on our DVR and I’m starting with Home Economics.  Funny show!

Tues – 7 miles.  Brrrrr!  The temp was 39 and I’m already complaining about the cold dark start to my day.  Haha!!  But seriously, I wore my Athleta Rainier tights, a quarter zip and some light gloves.  It took me a long time to warm up after my run!

13 miles biking – by the afternoon it was wonderful weather (71 degrees!) and I got to enjoy an evening ride with my husband. Complete with bugs in the face. Ick!

Weds – 30 mins of elliptical and PT exercises. Yes that’s right, I used my elliptical!! That is all.

Thurs – 7 miles. By the time I went for a run it was a lovely 47 degrees. Still, a long sleeve shirt, but so nice out!

When it hit 70 degrees I just couldn’t resist getting out for a bike ride too. It was a quickie 25 min ride, but really needed because I had a technical support appointment to help a friend. It was a stressful 2 hour visit and I left feeling defeated. Sigh. Sometimes technology is the worst!!

I helped out at a packet pickup for a RunToledo race. It’s been awhile since I’ve helped at packet pickup. It was fun to see my friends!

Fri – 3 miles, running. Just a little run around the neighborhood to start off my day right. The football game was an away game and it was a “pink out” as the theme, for breast cancer awareness. Our team won again, 28-0. They’ve only lost one game so far this season. Woohoo! It was a cold one and I’m glad we took along a blanket to cover up.

Sat – 20 miles, long run. Yep, a big long run! I’m still debating if I should run another marathon in a few weeks. This run was very good overall, but I’m still not feeling completely speedy and I’ve got a little bit of a pain going on in my hip/glute. Decisions decisions! But what a beautiful morning for a run!!! I saw my first woolly bear caterpillar of the season (that little blob in my picture 😂)

We went to the pumpkin patch to pick out pumpkins, see the farm animals and buy some donuts. Yum! It felt especially cold at the farm despite the sun.

Sun – Ray’s MTB (indoor mountain bike park) – 5 miles?. We had planned a trip up to Boyne Highlands today, but found out last minute that the chairlift was closed! Whomp whomp. They use the ski chairlifts to take cyclists and bikes up to the top of the ski hills and there are trails to bike down. As a consolation prize we spent many hours at Rays. Always fun, but especially tiring after all of that running yesterday!

We only less than a week with our fuzzy little foster kittens! I tried to capture pictures of all of them, but they are so quick! I tried 🙂 I’m not sure if we’ll get another group after these or not! They have been a fun bunch and will be a great addition to any family!

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

Q: Do you decorate your house for fall or Halloween?

We have a little bit of both!

  1. We enjoy watching Home Economics. It seems like there are so few comedies on network tv these days, but that’s a good one. Abbott Elementary and Young Sheldon are the others we watch regularly.

The 30s is cold! Our lows have been in the upper 40s or low 50s, so not quite that cold yet!

    1. I know a lot of people like Abbott Elementary. I just couldn’t get into it last time I watched it! My other favorites now are Welcome to Flatch (so funny since it’s based in a small town in Ohio! I can totally relate), and Call me Kat.

  2. all of us seem to be having this hip and glute situation going on! I hope yours feels better this week. Let me know if you find the magic cure for it. I am loving the cooler morning temps over here!

  3. Like Deborah said, the hips and glutes are not playing nice for many of us recently. Such an annoying PIA issue, right? I was wondering if you had your sights on another marathon (or long race of some sort). You’ve had some serious mileage following your marathon!

  4. Brr! I can’t believe it’s so cold up there and so warm here still. Send a little of that our way!
So you obviously did a 20 mile run just for the fun of it (I get it!) And you’ve been struck by the Curse of the Glutes- yes, we’ll all be interested to hear how that works out, and if you find something to get rid of it. Hopefully yours is a mild case!
Those kittens… so adorable but I can just imagine how much work they are. When we adopted our kitten, she was a handful- and it was just ONE! On the subject of Halloween decorations- the first year we had her she tore down my entire “pumpkin patch” display. That was two years ago and she’s mellowed a lot, but I’m still cautious about what I put out.

    1. We can tell when the kittens get to be the age of adoption – they are soooo full of energy and crazy! Luckily they haven’t been destructive. I’m not sure why kittens love to dig and go potty in house plants, but I’ve done a pretty good job of stopping that when it started for this group of kittens.

  5. What dear little kittens, esp the fluffy one! Like Jenny, we don’t really go for decorations now after we got our two, now three years old and a lot quieter, but would still take out a Christmas tree!

Sorry about the soreness. I’ve got a bad back and am on the actual injury bench for a few weeks, will do all my physio exercises and hopefully be back soon.

  6. Mostly I decorate for fall but I do have some Halloween stuff out now too. Hasn’t it gotten cold? We’re already calling 40 degrees “mild” Haha! Thanks for reminding me about the Raniers. I have to get mine out.

    1. I’ve had a few mornings that already made me think I dislike running in the cold before I stepped outside. haha! Really it wasn’t too bad, but as always, those mid 50-60 degree mornings are gone too fast!

  7. Our weather is back n forth. 30s in the am. And then it still can be 70 in the pm.

I never seem to dress right

I do decorate a bit but not as much as I used to.

    1. The sun is always the tricky factor! Black tights seem to double your body temperature in the sun. I’m glad I have capris and knickers as a compromise. We do have a lot more running options than the guys do, which I really appreciate!

  8. Oh those kitties…so cute!

Which marathon are you considering? My Ohio sister is doing Columbus this weekend, the same day as our Amsterdam race. Its only her second full; I think she’s hooked on them though and she was the one sister who was resistant before! She’s been running really well too- I think my “family marathon PR” is up for grabs, ha!

Good luck with the rest of your training!

    1. That’s great your sister has enjoyed running the distance so much! Columbus is one of my favorites. The weather looks good for race day too. I hope she has a great race! Well… we just signed up for Indy Monumental!

    1. I do love fuzzy caterpillars! I saw another one later on, but it wasn’t a wooly bear. Heck, if it gets close to 35 I’ll be wearing my fleece lined tights. haha!
