Miles run this week, 40!  This is week 4 of my training plan, with 14 more weeks until the Glass City Marathon on April 23rd.  It was a good week for training and family fun. We also got a surprise call from the Humane Society for foster help. Kittens? Yes please!

Mon – 5 miles, negative splits (2 miles, 2 miles, 1 mile).  Since it was MLK day I had the day off work.  I got to see the moon and the sunrise in this one!

Tues – 5.5 miles, with strides.  Since it was 47 degrees outside in the morning I opted for a neighborhood run.  It was eerie foggy, but that’s no match for my new Noxgear light.  LOVE IT.

Weds – Rest day! I got a request for help from the Humane Society. They had 3 kittens who needed a foster home for a few weeks. Meet Winky, Blinky and Floofy (all girls)! Yes, I named them. They were coughing and had eye crud when they arrived here, but the meds will fix them up fast. We’ve never fostered kittens in the winter. What a surprise!

Thurs – 8 miles, hilly intervals.  I ran up and down a nearby hill and overpass.  My intervals got slower and slower.  LOL!  Imagine that.  In the end, it was a great workout.  The big surprise was when 5 deer ran out in front of me. I’ve bought several items from the Athleta sale this past week and this quarter zip was another winner. But hey, when it’s free using rewards, why not??

I’m happy to announce that I was invited back as a Run Toledo Ambassador for 2023! Our season kicked off with a race this Sunday so I helped at packet pickup. We’ve got a lot of great events scheduled for 2023. I’m looking forward to it! Hopefully I’ll do some multi sport events this year.

Fri – 4 easy mile, treadmill/TV time!  Also a trip to the gym for upper body. Highlight of the day was meeting my daughter for coffee and giving her technical support for her college class. She’s an IT major now so I can provide her lots of assistance when needed!

Sat – Long run, 16 miles with mid 6 at race pace.  On paper this doesn’t sound hard, but it was a challenging one!  My hammies were aching a bit from those hilly intervals on Thursday.   I had to run up the same hill again on this route so I got a double workout.  It was another gloomy Ohio day but I did enjoy the views along the river. They just paved this trail. I really like it. It will really be a hit in the summer.

After I grabbed my celebratory Starbucks coffee I headed over to Planet Fitness for a session on the hydromassage chair.  Ahhhhh! It felt wonderful!

Afternoon fun was cheering on the University of Toledo ladies basketball team.  They have been having a great season and this was an action packed game.  They won! Go Rockets!!

Sun – Rest day!  Cross trained with housework.  Oh joy. haha! We do have a fun tour of a historical house at the metroparks this evening. And, it snowed this morning… so that will make the park look magical. Yay snow!!

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

Happy Chinese New Year everyone! I hope you are blessed with good fortune this year!

Q: Did anyone else get hit with snow this morning?

  1. I think we all have gloomy weather this week! I am not a cat person but it’s very nice of you to take in the kittens again. I am sure it is a lot of work. Way to go on your runs this week. I also had a hilly interval run-they are tough

    1. I think I need to get more hill work in this cycle. It is my weak part of the marathon course! Not that the Glass City marathon is really hilly, but it does have more elevation gain than my regular trail does!

  2. IT major. It rubs in the family.

Congrats on a big running week.

We are supposed to get snow today and Wednesday boo. Will miss up my running routes.

Awww those kittens are so cute.

    1. I just realized that my week of running is totally messed up by the forecasted snow this week and doctors appointments. Booooo! I will have to be flexible.

  3. We were supposed to get a “dusting” of snow overnight, but it was more like 2-3 inches. But, it was pretty fluffy, so not as much of a nuisance. Those kittens are so cute! I’m a little envious of your hilly interval run, believe it or not. I hate the hill I live on (probably because it’s the first thing I hit as I leave my driveway), but I like doing hill repeats on other hills.

    1. I’m not the biggest fan of hill repeats! Especially now, early in my training cycle. So exhausting!
Tomorrow we are supposed to get all of the snow I’ve been hoping for. I can’t wait!

  4. OOOOH!!!! Kittens! They are so fluffy and precious. I can’t wait to hear more about them.
We seem to be on the same long run schedule, and our races are right around the same time. That’s where the similarities end though- instead of running challenging paces I’m slogging through the trails. Oh and it was 80 degrees here- ugh. And what is this about a hydromassage chair??? It sounds amazing. I’m really hoping to get a massage this week.

    1. The hydromassage chairs at Planet Fitness are amazing! After that long run it was especially nice. The kittens were quite a surprise. The fluffy one still hasn’t gotten over it’s cold so we had to get different meds for her. Hopefully that will take care of it. She’s so congested. Poor little thing!

  5. Oh my goodness girl, kittens!! There’s nothing as cute as kittens. We took a kitten (although a bit older than yours) in 2015 because the owner had to urgently leave their rental house. The kitten is now an adult queen, ruler of the universe, lol.

How nice with the hill intervals. We live surrounded by hills so I do a lot of hill walking. It certainly is rough for the hamstrings and calves but I like it a lot. I haven’t yet done any running there – and won’t until I’m more experienced and injury-free for a longer time.

  6. Sounds like a good week! Those kittens are so cute. Floofy is a fun, fitting name.

Any double digit run sounds hard to me — congrats on getting it done.

I love all my Athleta stuff, and it really holds up well.

  7. Congrats on being named a Run Toledo Ambassador again for 2023 and good job on your 16 miles!

Awww, more kittens! They’re so cute.

Still no snow in the DC metro area and suburbs this winter… not a single flake. 🙁

  8. We did get a nice little dusting of snow yesterday and it made the trails really beautiful! It was just the perfect amount, too. They’re calling for more snow mid-week. I still have those running snowshoes to try out, so fingers crossed we get enough for that.

Your foster kittens are so cute!

  9. What a fun and accomplished week Lisa! You’re killing it with marathon training. The gloomy weather doesn’t hold you back.

Yay for more kitties! So cute. What a great thing you are doing as a foster. 🙂

  10. It snowed here all day yesterday, although we didn’t get a ton of accumulation. It was a surprise in an otherwise mild January so far. Congrats on your return to the Run Toledo team and how fun to meet your daughter for coffee. She chose a great major!

    1. There were 1,497 animals that went through foster care in 2022 with 289 foster homes. It’s quite a challenge to come up with so many names for the animals! I now see why they just use a theme or maybe just the dictionary to name them 😉

  11. We got our first real snow of the winter on Friday (schools were canceled). My kids LOVED it – sledding, building a big snow fort. And then it rained hard all day today – whomp, whomp.

    Those kittens are so cute.

And that super side path along the river looks like such a great running route.

    1. Always a bummer when the rain melts the snow!! We got hit with some snow this week and school was closed for a day as well. Would have been more exciting if I didn’t have to go to work that day, but I did (darn!). My son has an “amended” day and doesn’t go to school until 3rd period now. There was a 2 hour delay on Friday so he went in super late!! It was crazy.

  12. What a great surprise to get Winter kittens! How fun.

Like mother, like daughter, eh? I did not follow in my parents’ footsteps.

Those hills make you stronger, right?

If the forecast is right it’s going to be snowing all February, LOL! Well, not as bad as the Buffalo blizzard & not unexpected, but this non skier isn’t fond of the white stuff. Hence the search for a new home (some day).
