Let me just start this week’s recap off with… my husband is mad at me. He’s mad because I crammed this week with too much stuff 😆 As I’m typing this he is driving our truck, pulling the camper. Yes, we are camping again, and hopefully it won’t be a sweaty, buggy event like last time! But I digress. I did indeed pack this week full of ALL THE THINGS because our kids will be moving out of the house in a week and I am savoring every opportunity to enjoy our time together. Who cares about sleeping or downtime?! It’s barely needed. Training for the Garmin half and Columbus full are well underway and I ran 38 miles this week and also biked 44 miles. Here’s what happened this week….
Sun – We drove to Columbus and moved some items into our son’s new apartment. You know that joke where “if you don’t communicate and make a list you’ll end up with 3 toasters and nothing else?” As we packed up the car Zach stopped me and told me to leave the toaster at the house because each of his roommates was bringing one. LOL! His new place is smaller than I expected, so I hope they will be organized and keep it tidy. A mom can dream, right?
Mon – 8 miles with 5 miles of intervals (4 mins on/1 min off). Despite the temps and humidity, this run turned out well – but it was a hard workout. The average pace of my intervals was 8:34, go me! I noticed Venus and Jupiter bright in the sky when I started this run. How cool! Speaking of cool, the dip in my pool was heavenly after this run.

After I dried off there was a Starbucks stop and I went to the gym and lifted a little heavier than usual.

After lunch I was feeling quite woozy. Was I dehydrated? Tired? Over-caffeinated? Probably a bit of everything! Thankfully that all wore off after a good lunch and some lounging in the pool.
The day ended just perfect – a ride in the Mustang for ice cream and playing cards with the kids.

Tues – 5 easy miles. I was hoping to see the Perseid meteor shower this morning, but nothing interesting was happening in the sky. Nothing but humidity happening on this run!! And as the day progresses, hello, DOMS. That extra weight on the Smith machine is catching up with me YIKES.

Weds – Rest day (just a morning walk today). We had a cookout and played cornhole.

Thurs – 16 miles long run. I moved my long run up since we had other plans on Saturday morning. I also thought the weather would be better. I had grand plans of getting up about an hour earlier this morning, but it didn’t happen. Still, I did avoid the heat mostly and this run felt much better than last week when I had to rest in the shade along the way! Our river is low right now… can you see the person walking across on the rocks in this picture??

28 miles, biking – We joined the group ride and the weather was wonderful. You could feel that the air is starting to waver between summer and fall. Great ride! Strava gave me 13 PR’s on segments of this route, which is impressive because we have rode this route several times now.

Fri – 3 miles running. I usually like to take a rest day after my long run, but the schedule didn’t work out. No worries, this was an easy run with my daughter which may have included several walk breaks 🙂

My son finished up his summer internship today and they had an open house at the company. Believe it or not, but this company cuts metal into circles and rectangles. Yep, that’s all they do! But they did have some interesting customers, like Space X. It was a good learning experience for him using the software to submit the jobs to the shop for cutting.

Climbing! I have to give kudos to Alan for agreeing to join us at the gym and climb with us. Climbing is “not his favorite” (and also described as “terrifying” at times). He made it to the top of a wall and also bouldered (smaller walls, no ropes). Go Alan!

Sat – 16 miles biking. We had one more breakfast ride while the kids are still home. I had delicious french toast. So good!

6 miles running – a treadmill run!!! I haven’t been on my treadmill in ages. There was no way in hell that I was going to run at 1pm in 89 degree temps outside, so treadmill it was. I enjoyed it!

Tonight’s fun activity was a concert. We went to see a local band, Oliver Hazard. They close down the street for this event which has 4 bands playing and starts at 6pm. We saw 3 of them (once again, the hot temps today!!). I’ve never really listened to any of these bands other than the Spotify play list two days before the show, but I really liked it. It was a good night. Note in the picture – my kids convinced me that our Blundstone boots would be the perfect accessory since these bands play folk music. Well, guess how hot those things feel when it’s 85 degrees out??? Fashion fail for me in terms of comfort, but I hope they did make me fit in. 😉

Final thoughts of the weekly recap… My daughter is quite the thrifter. I love trying on the stuff she finds at the thrift store. This week’s haul was a Banana Republic dress and a fancy jumper. So glamorous! She resells a lot of the stuff, but the items she keeps I get to enjoy too because we wear the same size 🙂 Her most recent great find was a pair of kitten heels – she paid $8 for them and sold them for $70. The buyer even paid $60 to have them shipped overnight! wow

Q: Did anyone go see a concert this week?
There were a lot in our area!
What a busy and fun week you had! Yes, pack it all in before the kids go back to school!
Lisa, you should ask your daughter to let you keep that jumpsuit. You look fabulous in it!
Thanks! Unfortunately it was a tad too small. But it was an entirely new look for me! Maybe I need to expand my clothing selections more. 🙂
So tired. Just let me sit on the couch and do nothing for a day!!
Never! 🤣
You definitely had a lot going on! The thrifting outfits are cute! Aren’t outdoor concerts the best? Or, actually, ANY kind of live music for that matter. I got to two awesome concerts at the Iowa State Fair last week. Fun times!
Even though I didn’t know the music, I really did enjoy the concert. Live music is great! I think I saw you went to see Hairball at the fair? They played in our town a few days later! I saw my FB friends were there. Fun times indeed!
Love the black jumpsuit! I was the mom who always made the list bc who wants 3 toasters? lol I love that you are savoring all the family time right now. It goes by fast! Enjoy it
It will be interesting to see what major household items have been missed when they move in. I’m leaving it up to them to figure out it!
Let him be mad! I think you had a perfect sounding week!
I wish I could thrift. I don’t have the patience… I’m tall and broad shouldered so there usually isn’t much in my size. I also have larger feet, so no shoes either. I do have a friend who thrifts and sells her finds and it’s a great business.
Love that you squeezed in so much family time.
The thrift store that my daughter shops at is a good one for a few reasons – all of the money goes to the American Cancer society (all items are donations) and they have a dollar day at the end of the month to clear items out. There’s a lot of new items all of the time so there are always great finds!
Aw, it sounds so fun! Tell Alan he can rest when the kids go back to school. I love all your fun family activities.
Nice job getting those runs in! I’m envious of your long run where you avoided the heat- that’s definitely not a thing here.
When the kids leave you’ll probably be lonely… maybe some kittens would cheer you up! : )
I am so burnt out on kittens right now! Although I would not mind a healthy, well behaved pair of kittens, which would practically be no work 🙂 It’s definitely going to be pretty quiet around the house without the kids. Whomp whomp.
I’m impressed with the thrifting! Can she manage my closet and sells things for me 🙂 I’m terrible about getting rid of stuff…
You look great! Love the jumper.
Looks like an awesome week, well done!
I tried to sell some of my Athleta clothes which I don’t wear much, but I’ve had no luck on selling anything!! She has a knack for knowing what is hot.
That is a busy week! I keep being told not to do cardio before lifting but I’m also finding it hard to combine running and the gym BUT I like to do both early morning. What to do????
It is difficult to find time to do both running and lifting! I’ve always heard the rule that you should prioritize – if your goal is running, then run first and strength second. That works best for me so I’m not worn out on the run.
That was a busy week, but I get it! Gotta pack in all the things before the kids leave. I know you’ll miss them both. I never stop missing mine. <3
My youngest son's girlfriend is a big thrifter, and in their neighborhood in Chicago, she gets plenty of opportunities for that. She finds some really great stuff, but her biggest find was a vintage Fendi bag for $5! She looked on ebay and found an identical one for $700. She's not selling it, though. She likes it! I think I'd sell it.
I bet there are many thrift stores around Chicago! I’m always impressed how easily my daughter lists the items she finds on Ebay, Depop, etc. I hate spending the time to list things. It’s time consuming!
