Re-entry after that week in Mexico wasn’t too bad mentally, but oh man, I got hit with what seems to be my norm lately – post travel sickness!  I think all of the activity of traveling lowers my immunity and my body just wants to rest.  I had a bit of a sinus infection and lingered on a for most of the week.  Thankfully I was feeling almost all better by Sunday because it’s GARMIN RACE WEEK! Alan and I are both running the half. This week I did run 22 miles (+ 13.1 plus the half on Sunday) and biked 21 miles. Here’s what went down…

Mon – 10 miles running, 7 miles biking.  This was supposed to be 10 miles with pace miles, but phew, it was not happening.  I did run almost all 10 miles (with some rest breaks) but afterwards I was exhausted and napped for a bit.  But that wasn’t stopping me because it was a great day for some mountain biking.  We hit the trails for a late afternoon ride.

Tues – 2 mile walk.  My early morning alarm went off for my pre-work run.  Once again, my body said NO THANKS and I went back to sleep.  Oh well!  I did go on a park walk with my mom and saw the cutest snake.  It was only about 6 inches long but had the attitude of a cobra.  Instead of quietly slithering off the path, he stopped and hissed at us three times.  LOL!!

14 miles biking.  Ladies Ride is almost done for the year so I had to join in.  It was a smaller group and once again I got to lead.  The weather was perfect and the amount of flying bugs was less.  Win, win!

Weds – Rest day.  Nothing to see here!

Thurs – 6 mile run.  Feeling a bit better today.  Enjoyed the sunrise and learned it is high school homecoming week in our school district because a neighborhood house was toilet papered.

Fri – 6 mile run.  Today was such a good day.  I went to Cedar Point with my Mom!!

Yes, my Mom who is 85 years young.  I wasn’t sure which rides we would go on but she mentioned she wanted to go.  Cedar Point is known for roller coasters and they do have a larger share of big coasters and thrill rides vs seated rides and smaller coasters.  So we started out on the Iron Dragon which is a first roller coaster for most people.

That was a success so agreed to go on Millenium Force – which is a 310 foot tall giga coaster which reaches 93 mph!  It’s super fun, super fast – and she liked it!  [giga coaster = these coasters are known for their massive height, high speeds, and intense ride experiences, and they are distinct from hyper coasters (under 300 feet) and strata coasters (over 400 feet)]

Her favorite of the day was this swinging one, Sky Hawk.  One of my favorites too!

We ended the day with one of the most intense coasters there – Top Thrill 2.  It reaches a height of 420 feet and 120 mph.  Wow!!  I did not expect her to say Yes to that one!  On the way home she told me that she hopes that when I’m 85 years old that my kids get me to do something that is out of my comfort zone.  She has always wanted to ride the coasters but my Dad wouldn’t do it and she didn’t want to go alone.  🙂 I’m so happy she had fun and was brave!!

Sat – It’s new iPhone day!!  Normally I would be excited about this, but after I finished the transfer THREE times, my text messages haven’t transferred over.  I’ve spent most of the day working on this issue and I’m ready to throw my new phone in the garbage.  Ughhhhhh.  So frustrating.

Sun – Race day!  Toledo Garmin Half Marathon!  Check back later this week for a race recap 🙂

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

Q: Do you think you’ll be riding giga coasters when you are 85 years old??

I sure hope I will!

  1. Listen. I’ve already stopped riding coasters. I get so lightheaded. I’ll do some of the smaller ones, but I can’t do the big drops anymore. Your mom is amazing!

I’m sorry you weren’t feeling well. I always load up on Vitamin C and EmergenC when I’m traveling to help combat illness. I also still take masks on planes, just in case.

We are getting new phones this year and I can’t wait.

So excited to hear how you did on your race!

  2. Since I don’t ride coasters, much less giga coasters, I won’t need to stop lol. Your mom is amazing. She doesn’t look 85! Now I see where you get all your energy from!

I want to get one of the new iPhones, but I am going to wait until next year. My CME account at work will cover it, but I only get $1000 per year (the doctors get twice that–insert eyeroll here–) and I’ve already spent this year’s allotment on continuing education.

I hope your race went well today!

  3. Whoa- your mom is a badass!!! And I love her comment, that she hopes you’ll be doing things like that when you’re 85 (why do I feel like you will be?)
Bummer about the sinus infection, but it doesn’t sound like you were down for long. Hope the race went well- I’m looking forward to the recap!

  4. I got the the iPhone-16E almost two months ago (my old iPhone-8 finally bit the dust, LOL. It took some getting used to, but I’m there now. I love rollercoasters! It’s great your mom was such a good sport! I hope I’m still that fearless when I’m her age 😉

    1. You got your money’s worth out of that iPhone 8!! I was so baffled and irritated with the text message transfer issue. Alan’s messages all transferred just fine. Go figure 😣

    1. Wooden coasters are rough!! There is an old one at Cedar Point which is a “classic”. It really shakes you up! (And not in a good way) The new steel coasters are super smooth. They are a delight! 🙂
