I’m back! My holiday in the Mexican sun is done. So much fun! It was a really great trip. The perfect mix of sun, fun, activities, romance and relaxing! We celebrated Alan’s 58th birthday and our 33rd wedding anniversary. We stayed at the Iberostar Wave Quetzal. We’ve stayed at other Iberostar locations, but it was our first time here. We loved it!! I highly recommend it. Here are the highlights…

The hotel is all inclusive (yum, so much food and drinks!!) and had a jungle area. There were lots of animals roaming around.

A spider monkey was near our balcony, hugging her baby as she took a nap!! It was amazing to watch.

Running – 16 miles in the heat. Not all on one day, but across 4 days. Our hotel was located in the gated community of Playacar. One lap around the community was 4 miles. As it turned out, it was exactly the distance I wanted to run. It was hot and humid every day, so 4 miles was PLENTY.

Exploring nearby ruins – These were less than a mile down the road from our hotel.

Archery – I didn’t do so great, but Alan made a really good shot.

Beach walks and hanging out in the pool – of course!

Scuba diving – 3 dives. One day we went to the island of Cozumel which has amazing dive locations. The water is so clear!

We saw a lot of cool sea animals including these…

Sailing – Alan has been sailing catamarans for the last 25 years but this was the first time we had to be towed back in due to lack of wind!! It was humbling, but we were told that it happens frequently so then we didn’t feel too bad about it! I always wondered what would happen if you couldn’t get the catamaran back to the hotel, and now we know!

I could post a million more pictures of the resort and what fun we had, but I’ll end it here. We flew home on Saturday and now it’s back to the grind – laundry, grocery, and cooking our own meals again (oh the tragedy!!). Running will happen again, with the Garmin Half Marathon happening on Sept 21st.

Q: Have you been to an all inclusive resort?
They are a nice treat!
What a fantastic trip you had to Mexico to celebrate both your wedding anniversary and your husband’s birthday! I love the monkeys roaming around and that monkey holding her baby while napping is just the cutest! Getting back to reality after a trip like that really is tough.
How cool that you scuba dive. You got to see so many beautiful fish and your pictures are fantastic! I’ve snorkeled but that’s the limit for me. Also, you look great in your bikini!
Aw, thanks on the compliment! At the start of the summer I thought this might be the year I ditch the bikini, but after marathon training got underway and I got a little bit of a tan, I felt more comfortable wearing one again.
Looks like a fabulous and fun week! The perfect way to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries!
Yes! I’m ready to go back again. Mexico is our favorite!
What a wonderful trip! It looks like the perfect mix between fun, activity and relax. I didn’t know you scuba dive! You’re such a cool, ass-kicking lady!
The monkey mama is amazing! I always just see monkeys as cruel killer wild animals (seen too much on YouTube about attacks) so it’s nice to see the milder side of them.
I’d like to say I’m a good scuba diver, but I’ve had my challenges with it. Going diving on this trip was a huge deal for me. The first dive was not great (I was very anxious) but the other two went very well and gave me confidence. I’m working on it!
I was concerned when I learned there were monkeys at the resort, so I too was super happy to see monkeys who did not steal things or act aggressive. They were so cute! Very precious to see mama and the baby napping.
Your trip looks fabulous! Looks like you had plenty to do for entertainment, as well as fitness. Congrats on 33 years, and Happy Bday to the hubby 😉
Mexico is always a good time. We had so much fun!
Oh, the re-entry is always so hard! What an amazing trip! I would have loved all the animals roaming around… you know how I feel about cute and cuddly things.
Crazy about the catamaran! I guess if the wind dies down, that’s what they have to do.
We don’t often do all-inclusive trips, but there are some great resprorts for that option. This one looks incredible!
Mexico and Punta Cana are the only places we’ve done all inclusive resorts. It was a great option when we took our kids there and they were picky eaters. I would get stressed buying restaurant meals for them and they wouldn’t want to eat it! It’s been tough trying to figure out what to eat at home and not having 3 desserts each night. LOL
Happy anniversary! What an amazing trip! You guys are so adventurous. I don’t think I could get my hubs to do any of those things anymore. When we were younger, yes! I’d still be up for it….
Good luck with your half marathon! That’s on my birthday!!
One of the guys on our dive asked my husband how old he is. When he found out he just turned 58 the guy said he thought he was younger than him, 47! That was a nice compliment on his birthday. I’m thankful my husband is down for all of the crazy ideas I have – and sometimes it’s him with the crazy ideas!
Looks like a wonderful getaway for your anniversary, Lisa and look at how smoking hot you are in your black bikini! 🙂
This looks amazing! Reading the comments above… yes, you and your husband are well-matched! Which is lucky- it would be sad if one of you were this adventurous and the other wasn’t. Happy anniversary! And… I hear you about the hot, humid runs (grumble, grumble…) I hope you get some cooler temps at home this week!
What a lovely week, and happy anniversary!
Looks amazing! Love the mix of active and relaxing. Happy anniversary! 33 years, wow! I wonder if there is something to the longevity of relationships where both people are active and love the same things, particularly running…! Congrats!
