My family members are probably the only ones around here that is cheering for all of the snow we are forecasted to get! As I type this we are expecting close to 10 inches by Monday morning!! And in Columbus where my son goes to college, they are expecting 15 inches of snow. Crazy! Will we really get it? Time will tell. The cold temps this week had me retreating to my cozy basement gym. I didn’t mind one bit! I also spent a bit of time running circles in my house. I’m still in a step challenge with some friends for the month of January. I started out in 9th position out of 14 people. At one point this week I actually took over 1st place! That was short lived but I have been hovering around 2nd or 3rd place lately. My persistence is paying off! This week I ran almost 29 miles this week, and walked a bunch of miles too.

Mon – 4 miles running.  I got a late start to the day (I blame staying up late watching Saturday Night Live – so funny!).  The day actually got colder as it went on!  I bundled up and felt OK going one direction, but the way back was pretty bad.  Cold air up my jacket sleeves!

In the afternoon we enjoyed some indoor recreation – climbing with my daughter.  I made progress on some more difficult routes with the ropes and then tried some bouldering.  Bouldering is out of my comfort zone (I don’t want to fall and break something!!) so I didn’t climb very high.

Tues – 4 miles running, treadmill.  Yep, it was a COLD morning.  Cold dark outdoor runs are not my thing, so I got to watch Emily in Paris.  #nocomplaints

We had a white elephant gift exchange at work today (a late holiday party for our department!) and I got this fun Lego set.  It was a good gift!

Weds – 5 miles running, treadmill. I found a great item on Facebook Marketplace today.  Someone was giving this really nice espresso machine away for free! It holds milk also and can whip up cafe style drinks with just one button. I was thinking about buying a different one for $175 when I ran across this.  Winning!

Thurs – Skiing!  We did a fun day trip to a local ski resort 1 hr 45 mins away.  There was no snow anywhere else on this drive, but the mountain did a great job keeping the snow in place on their slopes! It was our first time to Mad River Mountain and I liked it!  It had a nice vibe.  Small but a decent amount of trees.  You can tell by this trail map that it’s a pretty small place! It’s my 7th day of skiing this season (day 8 for Alan).

On the way home we saw a few Amish buggies. They looked soooo cold!

Fri – 5 miles, treadmill.  Another super cold day – kudos to my husband for getting out there for his 5:30am running group, but for me, um nope!  I’m keeping it warm and cozy on my treadmill.  I also went to see the Dr about my knee.  The annoyance/pain level has remained about the same for the past week but I figured it was time to go since this has been hanging around since mid November!  My Dr looked at it using ultrasound and the diagnosis is “Tendinitis of left quadriceps tendon”.  Recovery seems to be moving along fine (“dull achy pain OK, tight stabby pain not OK!”) so I got a video of some exercises to help out and if it’s not feeling better in a month we’ll reassess.  Things to note – skiing yesterday without a knee sleeve was good and my run this morning didn’t anger it either.  What did anger it?  My Dr poking at it for a diagnosis.  I hate when that happens!

The rest of the afternoon was spent putting away Christmas. Whomp whomp.

Sat – 8 miles, treadmill.  Still on the treadmill!  You know the drill by now.  As soon as I got done with my run I got a surprise – our fridge stopped working!  It’s been making loud humming noises for at least a month now so we weren’t really surprised.  I moved all of the stuff I could into a temporary location.  The freezer food fit into our garage freezer. Thankfully it’s so cold outside because the refrigerated food went into two coolers and they are sitting on our front porch!  (very classy, haha!)

We did order a new fridge but it’s not available for delivery until at least a week from now.  We are getting ready to go out of town next week so I guess it’s good timing that it died before we left.  We will get it when we return home. Who needs refrigeration?? Well, at least not for the next few days!

We celebrated my Mom’s birthday a few days early for dinner (see, no need to refrigerate food or cook!). My Mom will be 86 years young on Monday 🙂

Sun – treadmill walk will be happening (because, step challenge!). Then I’m just going to enjoy looking at all of that snow and packing for our trip! We are heading out for an extended ski trip in Utah and Colorado. I can’t wait!!

Speaking of snow, my son was on a trip to Mount Washington in New Hampshire with a college group. Yes, they scaled Mt Washington (well known for it’s extreme weather) in January!! I was very worried that they would all freeze to death 😬 I don’t know where he gets these crazy ideas from. LOL

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

Q: Did you get the snowmageddon where you live?? Excited about it, or hate it??

  1. Good job navigating the weather and getting your workouts in. I have my own personal step challenge and it’s so much harder when I can’t get outside. Also it really bothers me that cycling and lifting gives me no credit! Any tips? yes I tread walk but it seems to take way longer to get the steps in

    1. I agree – those treadmill walks do take longer to accumulate the steps! Honestly, just taking a few minutes to run around my house really adds up. It’s a bit silly but it does raise my heart rate, I listen to an audio book and my steps add up. It started out as a walk around the house but doing a slow jog was more effective!

  2. While Momma N kept things extremely cold and windy all week, she did relent on the snow (barely a dusting), so I can’t complain much. I love Emily in Paris! I think the show is so cute and funny. The fashion is quite exotic, though…very fun, but totally impractical for the office setting, LOL. I would be worried to death if my son (or anyone!) took on that kind of adventure!

    1. I love the silly fashion in Emily in Paris! Especially when Emily goes out for a run. Who would really wear that? From first hand experience I can tell you that no one I saw was wearing anything out of the ordinary to run in Paris when I was there!
I was extra concerned about the OSU Mountaineering trip because they didn’t have cell service for most of the weekend and then it took them a really long time to drive home due to some bad weather. But, they did make a lot of fun memories, so there’s that 🙂

  3. Nice job getting outside for Monday’s run! It’s good that you’re enjoying a TV show and that your treadmill miles aren’t so boring. That’s huge!

Our snow forecast was all over the place and so far we got about 5 inches of snow before it turned over to sleet. The sleet has packed everything down so it’s impossible to tell what we’ve actually gotten. I’m hoping it moves out earlier than the 4 AM tomorrow forecast.

Ugh on your refrigerator dying! I had a serviceman out to look at mine in the fall and it was going to cost over $600 to fix it and it was over 20 years old so I bought a new one during the Black Friday sales.

Happy birthday to your mom tomorrow! And good job finding that coffee maker for free!

    1. I thought our old fridge had a decent life at 13 years, but now I hear about these 20 and 25 year old fridges that my friends have. I feel ripped off! But then again, another friend said hers only lasted 5 years, so hopefully we will get much closer to 20 years on our new one. It was making awful loud humming noises. I hope the new one is quiet!

  4. Great work this week! A lot of treadmill action, which i can relate to! We are getting a lot of snow also, on top of the more than a foot we already had from last week’s storm so I’m over it! Jealous you get to get out of town next week – hopefully somewhere warm!

    1. Oh heck no – we are going skiing in Utah and Colorado! 🙂 Unfortunately there is more snow here in Ohio than in the western states. Go figure. It’s impossible to plan a ski trip far in advance and correctly predict where the good skiing snow will be (or at least that’s how it has been for us!).

  5. Wow. A lot happening in your world. Love the coffee machine. What a deal.

Enjoy your ski vacation. Hope your knee doesn’t give you problems.

Yes. Lots of snow here. I’m sick so it doesn’t bother me much. If I were running that’s a different story.

  6. We just got a new fridge after the old one just up and died on us. Like you, there was a week until delivery, but luckily, the basement fridge was up for the task. I hope you like your new fridge!
Sorry to hear, but not so sorry about the diagnosis of tendonitis. At least it isn’t serious, just annoying!!
Happy birthday to your mom! 86? She looks amazing!

  7. No snow here- it was 83 degrees today. Sigh…
A ski trip to Utan and Colorado??? That sounds amazing! It sounds like your knee is holding up well. Hopefully now that the doctor isn’t prodding it, it will calm down.
I guess it was a good time for the fridge to break! I remember my parents used to put the refrigerator overflow (drinks and such) out in the front hall, where it was COLD in the winter. Yes- good thing yours didn’t break wile you were gone.
    Happy birthday to your mom!

    1. Our fridge was driving me crazy with loud humming noises so I’m not sad it’s gone, but I really do miss having an ice machine! And now all of the food in the coolers is getting TOO cold being outside. It’s not an ideal situation, but I guess we’ll survive. Haha!

  8. Brr, you’ve all gotten so much cold and snow. I don’t blame you for staying inside, but 8 miles on the treadmill is commendable!! Glad to hear you also got to go skiing for the day! How fun.

Oh, and I am happy to read that someone else kept Christmas up a little longer 😉

    1. We got the outside decorations taken down just in time. They would have been buried out there for another month! It is nice to see the lights, but the snow looks pretty great now so I’m fine with it ❄️

  9. It sounds like you had a great week! I would love to try skiing again – I haven’t done it since I was a teen! I hope you enjoy your trip!

My knees seem to hate me so there’s always some discomfort, but I was intrigued to see that your knee pain is related to your quad. I’d be curious to know what kind of exercises you’re doing to help! I hope your recovery goes smoothly.

  10. Listen. there is a chance that we might get flurries this weekend. I would lose my mind lol! I love the snow.

I’m glad your son and his friends are ok and unfrozen!

It was awful when our fridge died a few years ago. It took forever for the replacement to come, but we didn’t have the benefit of a front porch freezer situation lol.

    Enjoy your ski trip!
