It’s been a fun week on the ski slopes this week. Luckily we still have two more weeks to go! This week we traveled across the country. It was an easy drive, but long. Here’s what went down this week…

Mon – 4 miles, treadmill.  I was hoping we would all be given the green light to work remote today, but it didn’t happen.  The drive to work was a bit sketchy with all of the snow and the road conditions.  It was my Mom’s birthday but she decided to take a raincheck and stay in her warm cozy house!  Happy 86th to my Mom!!

Tues – 4 miles, treadmill.  It was a busy day of work and getting packed up for our road trip.  My daughter’s boyfriend graciously agreed to keep my kitties while we are gone which is wonderful.  I’m sure he will love having them and it’s a little vacation for them too (as if they care, haha!).  Sam was getting into mischief less than five minutes after we left. Silly kitties!   The truck was loaded up and we were ready to go.

Weds – On the road! We drove from Toledo Ohio to North Platte Nebraska.  Thanks to the weather this was an easy day of driving.  We drove just under 1,000 miles yesterday and settled in for the night.  Gotta love that Waze gave us an alternate route as we started our trip. 137 mins slower? Um no thanks!

Thurs – Road trip day… Nebraska to Park City Utah.  Gotta say, Nebraska is a lot of the same views! No hate to Nebraska, but I just couldn’t do it.  No trees.  No bushes.  Not much of anything but cows.  A highlight of the day was the delish new Starbucks drink, Iced Dubai Chocolate Mocha.  Yum yum yum!  Eventually the mountains were in view. We made it to Utah!

Fri – 26 miles skiing at Park City, Canyons side.  Park City Mountain Resort and the Canyons resort merged in 2015 creating a huge resort.  Today we skied the Canyons side.  It was a good day!  Our condo is only 8 mins away from the resort which is perfect. Funny story – the Sundance Film Festival is going on in Park City and I was certain I would see a celebrity on the slopes. I was sure I found someone! That jacket! The Chanel fanny pack!! I made sure we got on the same chair with her and it turns out she just has a really nice jacket. Drats.

Sat – 30 miles skiing at Park City.  It was a very full day of skiing.  We were on the slopes shortly after it opened at 9am and were the last ones on the slopes when the chair lifts closed down!  It was a beautiful sunny day and we ate lunch on the patio.

After skiing we stopped by the Utah Olympic Park.  It was built for the 2002 Olympics.  It has a training center for ski jumping, moguls and a track for bobsled, skeleton and luge.  You could even go on a bobsled ride!  We didn’t do a bobsled ride, but we did see people doing it.  They reached almost 70 mph.  Pretty cool!

Sun – On the road again!  Destination: Gunnison Colorado with a side trip to Arches National Park.  More pics next week!

Finally, how did my January step challenge go? I rose from 9th position, to 4th position, and even up to 1st position for one day! By the end of the challenge I finished in 2nd position (which is surprising since I got very few steps for the last part of the week). Whoop! My determination paid off.

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

Q: What event are you looking forward to watching at the Winter Olympics this year?

Skiing for us of course, but I’m intrigued to see the new Ski Mountaineering event!

  1. Sounds like a fun trip — once you got through Nebraska, LOL.
I think the last time we were at Park City we went over to the Canyons side and ended up having to take the bus back because the lifts back over closed earlier than we thought!

I know cats are different, but I do think Scooby enjoys his Rover stays — new people to spoil him, new places to explore, etc.

    1. We were happy to see the chairs that said they were closing at 4pm were still transporting the stragglers at 4:15! Park City is a really nice resort. Hopefully there will be more snow next time we go!
Sam was crying at 3am the first night, but I think after that he was acclimated to his new surroundings. (At least I hope, or his host will not be getting very good sleep!!)

  2. What a fun adventure you are on! That is a lot of miles to drive! Too bad you did not see any celebs lol. Way to go on the step challenge. I’m having a much harder time in this weather.. Have so much fun this week! Glad to see they have good snow

    1. I was so certain I was going to see someone famous! I gave my husband pointers on what to look out for in case a Kardashian might appear LOL! Utah is struggling with snow coverage just like Colorado, but they’re doing a good job maintaining what they have, and making new snow. I think the situation has accounted for less people on the slopes which is a good thing for us!

  3. Oh this sounds so fun!!!! I LOVE road trips- it’s fun to see how the scenery changes as you drive. Not like flying where you just suddenly appear in a new location. And I can imagine how exciting it was to see mountains after all that flatness.
Utah is my dream location for a vacation (well, one of them). I think I might go in the summer though, lol. I don’t ski, so I can’t appreciate the snow like you can. But it looks amazing.
That’s nice you have someone to cat sit! When we were in Tampa we were only gone three days, but I still worried about the cats. We had someone come in once a day to feed them, but I kept imagining that they were super lonely and missing us.

    1. We’ve always had people stop over to take care of our cats every other day, so it’s great to have someone around them full time while we’re gone. I just hope they don’t get in too much trouble and wear out their welcome! I wish they traveled as well as dogs do.
Road trips are fun, especially when I can take along my pillows from home. I am very picky about bed pillows!

  4. It sounds like you are having a fabulous trip and time on the slopes!

First off, I love your huge garage and I’m a little bit jealous! Having a three-car garage was top on our list when we bought this house, but as soon as we saw the back yard we decided we could live with the two-car garage. LOL

We went to the Olympic Park when we were in Park City a few years ago. People were skiing down the slides and landing in the pool when we were there.

We were just in Gunnison this past summer. It’s cool being able to follow along and knowing where you are. The fires came just a week or two after we were there. I hope you get a light dusting of snow while at Arches – that would be beautiful!

    1. We actually have a 4 car garage! Right now it’s full of bikes. I think we have 10 bikes? I’ve lost count of my son’s bikes. We built our house so the 4 car garage was my husband’s wish. I got the large walk in closet above the garage as my wish 🙂
Gunnison was the affordable choice of lodging for skiing at Crested Butte. We’ve never been there before so hopefully it was a good choice!
That would be so cool to see the skiers jump at the Olympic Park! Those ramps are crazy steep!!

  5. What a fun trip! I went to Park City a few years ago for a Brooks event–but it was in the summer! It looks so pretty there. Enjoy the next leg of your trip!

I love all the events at the Olympics–looking forward to watching!

  6. A high school classmate has a son on the men’s bobsled team (4-person, I think?). He was on the team four years ago as well, so it’s been fun seeing her FB updates with pics. I like watching the skiing (mainly because I cannot do it myself #klutz) and the ski jumps.

    1. What a fun way to see some behind the scenes stuff with an Olympian! The bobsled event looks like such an adrenaline rush. I think I would pick bobsled over luge or skeleton. Those events look frightening!

  7. That’s a lot of driving! It sounds like a fun week! That photo from the top of the slope is fantastic, what a stunning view. I’m not much for winter sports but we’ve had some amazing Swedish athletes over the years so I might follow the cross-country skiing for that reason.

  8. The skiing adventures sound great, though rats to missing out on a celebrity sighting! My husband is from Nebraska so I’ve visited quite a few times and agree, the drives across the state can be a little boring!
I haven’t watched the Winter Olympics in a long time – I think I usually focus on figure skating. I’ll have to see what’s going on this year!

  9. Ok… I need to know how the Dubai chocolate iced coffee is! I just got pistachio creamer at the store and it’s my favorite.

What a fun and exciting road trip! I love that for you! I’m not a skier, but I love how it looks and wish I had more opportunities to try!

I know so many people whose parents had birthdays this week. I hope she had a great one!

    1. You must run to Starbucks to get the coffee now!! I’m sure you would like it. I didn’t even know what it was but they had a coupon for $3 for a drink, and when I saw “chocolate” in the title I knew I needed it! 🙂

  10. What a great trip. I skied when I was young but never enjoyed it…
Congrats on your 2nd place finish in the step challenge.
I can’t wait to watch the ice skating.
