Summer is in full swing now. Group rides have started and cookouts are happening. I continue to build up weekly mileage in running, looking forward to starting a training plan soon for the Columbus marathon in October. I ran 25 miles this week and hit my first week of 100+ miles of biking (101!). We opened our pool for the season, although the water is too cold to go in. Here’s what else went down this week….

Mon – 3 miles, running.  On Sunday I stopped by a thrift store with my daughter.  On the rack I found the best deal… a brand new pair of Adidas Adizero Lightstrike Pros!!  Although they were a little smaller than I normally wear, I could NOT pass up that deal for $25.  I figured I could just resell them if they didn’t fit.  I wore them for some speed work this morning and they felt good!!  I will be keeping them.  I also found another pair of shoes that made me happy.  This colorful pair of Pumas!  I eyed up the colorful shoes in Europe when I was there, but couldn’t justify spending the money for yet another pair of shoes.  But for $30?  Yes please.

I went to another thrift store with my daughter today and found two dress choices to wear at an upcoming wedding.  I also got a cute dress for some future summer event or vacation which has not been planned, and thisAthleta dress (so comfy!!).  Great deals today!  (ignore my messy closet.  I am in the process of swapping out the winter clothes!)

An afternoon bike ride took place starting with my son and husband, and after 12 miles we all went our own direction – son went home, Alan went for a “fast ride” and got 30 miles, and I finished up with 20 miles. It was a beautiful afternoon for a ride and the bike trail and parks were bustling with families.  We had a great cookout which was a delayed Mother’s Day dinner (yay, I LOVED not having to cook anything!).  A perfect start to the summer.

Tues – 3 miles running.  Probably should have taken a rest day today, but with the temps around 55 this morning I didn’t want to miss out.  A park walk with Mom happened at lunch time, and the day ended with the first Ladies Ride of the season.  It was a gret turnout. What a big group. Woohoo!  I commuted to and from the group ride, which ended in 26.5 biking miles for the day.

Weds – 3 mile run. Yep, another run because it was so nice out this morning!

Thurs – 30 miles biking.  My morning was spent rotating my seasonal clothes.  I think it’s finally time to put those sweaters away along with my fleece tights, jackets and long sleeves!  I’ve been tripping those over totes in my closet for weeks now.

In the evening I joined a group ride with my son and husband.  This is a perfect summer Thursday night – biking, followed by pizza and beer!  We had a group of 14 riders and an average speed around 17 mph with the group. It works out good because we commute over to join the group and then we leave the group near the end of the route since it’s close to our house.

Fri – 10 mile, long run.  Double digits baby!  It’s been awhile since I’ve run this far and I felt it. It was a bit chilly when I started my run and I had to dig up those long sleeves I just put away (arm sleeves would have been the better choice).  Lounging afterwards in the warm sun afterwards was perfect.  I also made it to Planet Fitness, although it was a super fast workout – but hey, I did it!

A long overdue trip to the climbing gym happened today also.  We tackled a challenging route with a crack.

Sat – 7 miles mountain biking, but first, coffee! A trip to Starbucks was necessary because it’s my daughter’s birthday. 23 years old. I can’t believe it!

We went out for dinner followed by cake and ice cream.  Fun fact, I made this cake from scratch and it was delicious!  I’ve always made birthday cakes from box mix so I was very impressed how easy this recipe was and how good it turned out.  Preppy Kitchen chocolate cake for the win.  And, I wore the dress I bought earlier in the week.

Sun – 5.5 miles running, 17.5 miles biking – I could not resist enjoying the beautiful weather today!  On the schedule for today, lunch by the pool, more gardening, followed by lounging around the pool, and having a cookout tonight.  And, I’ll be rollerblading later with my son. Yahoo summer time!

Q: Have you put away your winter workout gear yet??

I probably need to get rid of half of my winter workout wear. I’ve got too much stuff!

Q: Read any good books lately?

I just finished Yesteryear. I loved it! I didn’t see it coming 😉
