The countdown is on for our European ski trip, but first, some slope time in Vermont! It’s hard to believe that we’ll be in Switzerland in less than a week. These past week had a little bit of running (almost 18 miles), a trip to the gym and a lot of time on the road! Here’s what went down this week…
Mon – 2.5 miles treadmill run. This was going to be a longer run but when I noticed my knee was feeling a bit wonky I decided to not go any longer. No need to mess with that! I went to the gym and my knee was feeling OK. Go figure.

It was a productive day as I did some final travel planning for our upcoming trip to Switzerland. It’s always so great to tie up the loose ends and feel well prepared!

Tues – 3 miles treadmill run. A nice workout before work. Too dark and cold for me to go outside!
Weds – 4 miles treadmill run. I totally forgot I had been watching Emily in Paris before we went on the Utah/Colorado ski trip so it was fun to catch up on that show again. It ended up being a stressful day so tacos and margaritas were necessary!

Thurs – 4 miles running. A crisp sunny morning, and brrrrrr, so cold!

Fri – Driving to Stowe, Vermont. We hit the road with our daughter for her spring break. The trip was a little over 11 hours on the map, but with a few bathroom breaks along the way we ended up driving about 12.5 hours. Stowe is not really easy to get to! We had to drive on quite a few twisty small roads through New York. In retrospect we should have taken our passports with us and drove through Canada because it seems like more major roads. Oh well. Thankfully it was only dark for the last hour of our drive. It was nice to get settled into our hotel! It’s a really cute place.

Sat – Ski day at Stowe! It’s busy here because of spring break. The day started out a bit rough with long waits in lift lines and it even started to rain a bit.

But the afternoon was good when we found areas of the mountain with less crowds. It was a full day of skiing (my 18th day of the season!) and we had dinner in the town of Stowe. The nachos were delish!

Sun – Another ski day is on tap! As luck would have it the temperatures are supposed to drop for the next two days. At least we have a lot of snow and the right gear, so we’ll be fine.

Here’s a fun thing Alan made on the 3D printer… a cheese slice container. So fun!

Q: Do you have any travel plans coming up this year? Driving or flying, or staying local?

You and Coco both in Vermont skiing.
You both drive through my state!!!
Glad to hear it went well.
I plan to travel by train to NYC twice and by plane to Asheville. All in March.
Vermont is the place to be! Well, it is a great place to be if you like snow skiing. I’m very pleasantly surprised at the amount of snow here.
You are going to have a very busy month of March! Fun 🙂
I didn’t know I needed a cheese slice holder, but ….
We were a bit further south in Okemo. We drive up 87 and still have about 60-90 min on country roads — that’s Vermont! That lift line is why we ski on weekdays, but I know that’s not always possible.
Enjoy the time with your daughter!
We are just spoiled with the easy access of the resorts in Summit County Colorado! Those country roads were a bit nerve racking because we didn’t have any cell service and I thought we got a bit lost. Thankfully we had enough gas in the truck because we didn’t know when the next gas station was happening 😆
I don’t ski, but your trip looks like a lot of fun! I am heading to NY in a few weeks to see a friend and family, but nothing else planned yet.
NY sounds fun! That will be a good time.
You all got in a ton of ski time this season! We are heading out to Aspen next week! The lines usually aren’t’ too long with so many options but we’ll see!
I hope you get spring skiing conditions in Aspen! Today the temperatures dropped and it’s really cold on the slopes.
I’ve never skied in Stowe, but have in Killington. We’ve ridden our gravel bikes all over Vermont so we might have ridden near where you’re skiing. I definitely remember driving through Stowe in search of a quaint little church.
Where did Alan come up with the idea to make a cheese slice holder? I’ve never seen one, but it’s adorable. I love those little holes!
The cool thing about 3D printing is that there are websites with free patterns. You just search and pick what you want. The cost of the cheese holder was probably 25 cents in materials!
This sounds so fun and OMG Switzerland!!!!!!!!! That is going to be epic! Nice job on monitoring that knee- the important thing is to keep your knee healthy for skiing, right now.
NO travel plans for me until the summer, when we go to Indiana for MY SON’S WEDDING, eeeek!
Oh wow, that wedding is coming up fast!! So excited for him and the families! I did see the Dr on Thursday for a check up and he said all looks good, but yes, don’t over do it thinking it’s completely healed and continue wearing a knee sleeve for skiing.
That’s a lot of skiing! It’s great your entire family loves it 😉 Your upcoming trip to Switzerland really sounds exciting!
We do all love skiing!
Switzerland in less than a week AND Stowe for spring break first?! What a stretch of adventures you have lined up.
Smart call listening to your knee on Monday and not pushing it. The trips ahead are worth protecting those legs for!
That 12.5 hour drive through twisty New York roads sounds like a lot but making it before dark is a win. Hope day two on the mountain delivers better conditions and shorter lift lines!
It is going to be a busy next few weeks! April should be quieter 🙂 Thankfully we did have good weather for our drive to Vermont. Hopefully it will be the same when we return home!
Where in Stowe did you eat? I love it, but never been for ski season. you have more in that mountain pic than we do all week. Safe travels
We ate at Ranch Camp (very cool vibe, part of the place is a bike shop!) and ate at Pie-casso (pizza, of course!). Can’t beat pizza as an affordable family meal 🙂
I wonder–is the skiing better in Vermont as opposed to out west? I bet they have more snow! Have so much fun. You are a skiing machine this winter!
I’m going to see my sister in Palm Desert next week. Unbeknownst to me, when I planned my trip, I picked the busiest week of March!
I prefer the resorts out West because they are larger, but this season the snow has been better in Vermont for sure! I overheard someone say it was spring break around here for the school kids, but Sunday the lift lines weren’t bad at all. It’s hard to avoid spring breakers in March! Have fun in Palm Desert, I’m sure it will be a great trip no matter what.
