Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mommas out there. I’m celebrating my day in Italy, which is pretty great. I apologize for the pictures this week – I didn’t get a chance to resize them so they’ll probably crash my website a few times. Oh well! I hope you are having a good week. Here’s what went down in my week!

Mon – 4 miles.  Run, walk, bike!  A morning run which was far colder than I thought.  48 degrees was a bit chilly for a short sleeve shirt it turns out.

But my lunch walk with Mom in the sun was warmer than I expected!  To wrap up the day, I enjoyed the 74 degree temps on a bike ride.  We went out for our first ride together (hopefully of many).  There were 20 mph winds which made the ride out very challenging (and why the heck was I in the lead for the first two miles?)  The ride back was amazing and my top speed was 23.5 mph!  So fun.

Tues – 4 miles.  I couldn’t pass up a morning run before work because it was 58 degrees!  How delightful!  But by the time I was finally ready to drive to work I was already running late.  And, I had a problem.  I eat salads every day for work and make them ahead of time.  Today’s salad was a bit of a treat.  I just bought some maple pecans to jazz up my salad.  Imagine my horror when I realized I didn’t have any appropriate dressing for that kind of salad!!  A hard decision was made – I made a quick trip to the store, even though I was already late for work.  Thankfully that detour only took 2 minutes (thanks neighborhood grocery store!) but I figured that was better than having to take 30 mins out of my day at lunchtime to go shopping.

Weds & Thursday- a 3 mile run in the morning, then time to fly!  An afternoon trip to the airport and a few flights were on the agenda today.  Italy here we come! It was a rough start though, the flight from Chicago to Munich was delayed over an hour. We missed our connecting flight and had to reroute to Venice instead. Long story short, we made to the AirBNB by sunset on Thursday and all was well. Dinner Italian style, at 9:30pm! We can see this castle from our apartment.

Fri – After a late sleep in (so tired, I couldn’t get out of bed!!) we went to the cute town of Limone, famous for its historic lemon groves! Lemon gelato was delish!

Sat – we took a gondola up to Monte Baldo summit. It was so beautiful! Many paragliders were launching from the mountain top.

We went on a challenging hike with amazing views of the lake area.

Then we saw a church in the side of the mountain. Wow!

Italy is very beautiful and the culture here is laid back and friendly in Lake Garda. We’re moving on to some bigger cities on Monday. Arrivederci! 🇮🇹

  1. Oh, welcome to Italy! How lovely for you all to be able to travel so much. We’ve been near Monte Baldo once – that was years ago before we discovered Abruzzo, were in Bergamo a few days and hired a car to see a bit more so we spent a day driving around near Verona. We went toward the mountains and continued on some really REALLY narrow steep scary roads up the mountain. When we were almost above the tree line and thought we were close, there was this sign post saying “inizio salita” (beginning of the uphill/climb). Then we gave up and went back down! But the views (those I had the courage to look at) were beautiful and it was a lovely road trip.

Those trails look so scary in your photos but absolutely breathtaking! How cool with the church built on the mountainside. Enjoy your trip and the bigger cities, can’t wait to see more of what you’re up to!

  2. What a place to celebrate Mother’s Day. That lemon gelato does look delicious.

That church is amazing. How the heck did they build it there back in the day???

  3. It sounds like you and your family are having a fabulous time in Italy! We went to Rome, Florence, and some surrounding small Tuscan towns when our oldest son graduated from college. We thoroughly enjoyed the gelato while there, too. Can’t wait to see where else you visit!
