After the half in Columbus, it was time for a few much needed rest days. I was actually feeling better than expected. And better than my husband, who was pretty beat up from his marathon. He commented on how well I was doing. My response – “well, I ran the half!” That’s the beauty of the half – just a few days of resting, and you are actually able to walk normally right after the race!! Gotta love that 🙂
Monday – Rest! 1 mile walk around the neighborhood to get the legs moving. Alan and I went out to lunch at our favorite place (Swig) to celebrate races (because if it’s a “bad race”, it’s another race we finished!). Hot dogs and brews. Yum!!
Tuesday – Rest!
Random fact, we have been playing Pokemon Go a lot lately because my daughter now has a cell phone! The best Pokemon have been found at my gym – my real gym, not a Pokemon gym! Unfortunately they often show up when I am out of Poke balls. 🙁
Wednesday – 4 miles on the treadmill. Dang, it is so hard to get out of bed in the darkness at 5:30am!! 5:30 in the summer, no problem. But, I did watch a good show on Netflix so it was entertaining. Lifted weights at the gym.
I’m signing up for another half on November 12th. Kind of a redemption race actually. I really want to see a race time with a “4” in it… 1:4x. It doesn’t even have to be a PR (sub 1:47), especially since this is a smaller local race with some rolling hills in it. I’m just hoping for some cool weather, and maybe I can get some speed!
Thursday – I searched around for a training plan for these few weeks between my races and I found one for the BAA half marathon. (Boston, baby!) I figured if it’s good enough for BAA, it’s good enough for me. I ran 5.5 miles on the treadmill before the kids got up, and 3.5 more miles outside after the bus came. So, 9 miles total. I’ll consider that my “long run” for the week.
Another thing about Thursday, it was actually *raining* outside. And yes, I chose to run outside! This is a shocker to me even because I hadn’t finished watching my show from the morning treadmill run (Scream Queens, I’m addicted!!), but it was also dark out! I also learned it was a bit chilly in the rain at 55 degrees with my shorts and t-shirt on! But good for me – I didn’t trip on the sidewalk. Victory!!
Friday – will be resting…
Saturday – Hill repeats with the Moms Run This Town group! Looking forward to seeing my friends again, and working on some “hills” for the upcoming half.

Q: Do you watch Scream Queens?
I started watching this after the series started. I’m glad I did though, it’s just my style!
Q: How long do you usually wait to run after race?
Q: Rainy day – hit the treadmill, or go outside?
I usually stick to the treadmill. Surprised I really didn’t melt today!
Q: Anyone else still playing Pokemon Go?
The only thing that keeps me from running outside is the wind, I’m a wuss!
I hear ya – if it’s looking suspiciously windy out, I’d do the treadmill too!!
My default answer for any bad weather is to say “run outside” (unless it isn’t safe) because I don’t belong to a gym or own a treadmill. But one of the perks to being a student again is free membership at my university gym so now I get the choice between outside, treadmill, and indoor track! I’m going to be so spoiled this winter. For rain I’d probably stick with outside, unless there is a lot of lightning.

You are going to be spoiled! I loved our university gym. We used to play They even had air hockey- date night for me and Alan!!
“We played…” racquetball. Oops, hit send too fast 🙂
You got in some good miles after your race! Your celebratory lunch looks delicious. 🙂 Another race!? You are addicted! (That’s not a bad thing, right?) How many do you do a year? After a full marathon I will rest at LEAST 3 days. Anything else is 2-3 days unless something bad happened! Of course this is if I RACE the race.

The half in November is one of the big events for our running club. More social motivation than a goal usually. Fun fact, it’s the only race I signed up for and couldn’t run due to injury a few years ago. But I got my money’s worth out of the post race beer tent with my race bib!!! 😉
I love watching shows on the treadmill! I’ll have to try Scream Queens. I like to have a dedicated “running” show so I’m excited to get out of bed at an ungodly hour.
In theory, I like running in the rain, but if I’m getting out of a nice warm bed and its all wet and chilly outside, I’ll probably opt for the treadmill. If I end up running later in the day, I usually feel a bit more adventurous.

Ditto – I think the treadmill is the only time I watch several shows. It’s so productive! I really liked Gossip Girl, and it’s similar to that, but humorous (with killings!). Also waiting for The Royals to start back up.
