I had a pretty busy weekend! And throw an unexpected knee surgery (for my Dad) into the mix, I was on the run most of the weekend. My Dad had an infection in his knee and they had to remove the “hardware” from a prior knee replacement procedure. He is recovering, but it will be a long winter coming up for both him and my Mom.
On Friday I ran for 10 miles. I’d like to keep my fitness level up to be able run 10 miles every week as a long run.
It was nice because unlike my weekday morning runs, I was able to get outside an enjoy nature! Nature even got a little too close to me when I was on a trail – I had my headphones in, but all of a sudden I heard a rustling noise, and didn’t see anything. I jumped! It scared the heck out of me!! Of course it was just a family of deer hiding in the brush, and not a killer. Phew!
I had to take this picture because the trail looked like Spring and not late Fall!
And here are some more deer along the way. This route rarely disappoints if you want to see some wildlife!
The rest of Friday afternoon was spent Christmas shopping with Alan. I may have snuck into the dressing room at Old Navy to try on clothes while he waited for me out in the car, and I “returned things”. Oops. The lure of new clothes was too strong!
On Saturday morning I met the girls for a run along the river. 6 more miles on the soft trails. It felt good on my feet, and chit chatting with friends was even better! Getting up to meet friends is a great way to start the day.
We even ran in formation! haha
When I was home, we were baking cookies. Yum Yum Yum!
Sunday afternoon I ran the Miracle on Main St. 5K. I just love these races that end with Christmas lights and holiday treats! Several of the Glass City Marathon Ambassadors ran this race and we got to show off our new Ambassador jackets. Woohoo!
Here’s the miracle – Official time for me was 24:45. Not only was that 2nd in my age group, I got a PR!!! I didn’t expect to be “racing” this, but it had a few little hills that kept it very interesting and listening to some great tunes kept me going!

The participation item was not a t-shirt, but a scarf! How fun is that? (it is was also functional as it kept me quite warm on my drive home!)

How about you?……
Q: Did you get out to run this weekend?
It was cold and overcast (boo!), but still nice to connect with the outside world!
Q: Are you baking any cookies or treats yet?
Q: Have you received any race participation items other than shirts?
Had a tough week that ended with a wake on Friday and a funeral on Saturday. Member of our running club suffered a fatal heart attack after crossing the finish line of a local half marathon on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Only 55 years old and a veteran of multiple marathons. Club members filled the chapel to overflowing on Saturday and most took the day off from running. Sunday was the weekly club run so we gathered as usual for an easy 6 miles before the snow got heavy. Very somber and quiet crowd today.
Oh man, that is a rough weekend. I’m so sorry to hear this!! Sounds like great community support – which hopefully can make it a little easier for the family. Still, never easy, especially during the holidays.
Congrats on your PR!!! I love that scarf too, so pretty :).
I haven’t started any holiday baking yet, but I did watch a fun video on holiday treats last night that I bookmarked for future reference!
Thanks! I was quite surprised by my race, and still so happy about it 🙂 I am in charge of bringing a dessert for the family Christmas party this weekend and I need to figure out what I’m bringing. I’m sure it will be chocolate, in case we have leftovers – more for me 🙂
Congrats on your pr, that’s awesome! Love deer. And those old navy pants!!
Thanks! Those pants are fun, aren’t they!? Actually those are American Eagle. I get to shop all of those “teen” stores with my daughter 🙂
Well you can pull those looks off!
Love that you run in formation with your girls!! So much fun. I was recently scared shitless while running trails. Same as you- family of deer. I had visions of being eaten by bears! Well done on the PR!! I haven’t raced a 5k in ages! You’ve inspired me!
Holy crap – rustling in the woods, loud enough to be heard over earbuds? Yes sir, could very well be bears!! Or at least that’s how I think too. Glad to hear from you again – with that Hansons plan starting for you soon, I look forward to the training updates!
