It’s 13 weeks until the Chicago marathon, and I did not run a mile this past week! This seemed like the longest week ever, but in a good way. I will be seeing my Dr in a few days for the hip/glute/something issue.  My guess is “overuse injury”… give it rest, see PT to help.  Been there, always doing that.  At least my week was filled with other activities that kept me busy. I’m really starting to miss my morning routine of running, but honestly I’m not missing running much at all. Mostly because I have PTSD about doing it because I know it hurts right now! It’s nothing that can be rushed, so no need to stress it.

Mon – 35 mins elliptical, 2.5 miles walking.  I haven’t worked out in my basement in a long time.  I had a movie to watch, so I tried the elliptical.  It seemed to go well enough, and I sweated just a little.  Last time I visited my Mom she seemed to be a bit “stuck”, so I invited her to go for a walk after work.  It was a really good idea and we’ll have to do this more often.  You can tell by my hair that it’s pretty humid right now.  LOL!

I even convinced my family to go watch fireworks again at the last minute.  The location wasn’t ideal, but it was 7 mins from our house and we were home super fast.  The post-fireworks traffic is the one thing I really dislike about going to see fireworks, so this was perfect.

Tues – 22 miles biking.  It was a nice morning for a ride!  I mean, it would totally suck for running, but the heat is no problem for biking 🙂  The rest of my day was spent lounging around the pool and working on my tan.  At night we headed over for some ice cream.  Can’t pass up the 4th of July and eating ice cream!

Weds – 5 mins elliptical, 30 mins treadmill walk.  This morning my pain is more noticeable in the glute than the hip, and I wondered if cycling was benefiting me.  I even questioned the elliptical, so I took a walk on the treadmill as I watched a movie.  Oh well… nothing will put a damper in my day though because today is OSU DAY!!

I traveled to The Ohio State University with my son.  He practiced with the marching band.  These summer sessions are not mandatory, but they are super helpful and highly recommended if you can get there.  The practices are to get him prepared to tryout to become part of TBDBINTL (The Best Damn Band In The Land).  Tryouts will happen in August.  There’s a lot to learn! I felt bad for the kids though – it was 90 degrees (feels like 94!). Oof.

Thurs – our day was spent exploring Columbus.  We went to a park and walked for a bit.  They had bison at this park!  We went shopping, had coffee and just hung out.  And in the evening it was time for another practice with the marching band.  Zach did well getting adjusted to the new marching style and playing with the others.  He still has some work to do, but it was good to see where he needed improvements.

Fri – Today’s exercise was walking around at Cedar Point! The weather was good -not too hot – and the park was not too crowded. The picture below is of one of my favorite rides – Skyhawk. It’s so fun!

Sat – 15 miles cycling. A morning ride. I did initially try to run, but nope, still pain. On a lighter note, here is cutie Nami. So cute, but super crazy now!! She bites everything that moves. No joke. We are trying to break her habit of attacking us, but kittens will be kittens!

Sun –  Race day!  No, not for me 🙁  But we did spend the morning at a local Toledo Road Runners race working as the timing crew!  We’ve never done this job before but it was a good one.  We were busy, and got to see all the runners.  It was a 10K & half marathon.  Fun times!

15 miles biking.  I went out for an hour ride after I went to the gym!  I used the rowing machine for 20 mins. I’m still looking for workouts that don’t make me sore. Hopefully this is one of those! It was a well rounded day of workouts.

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

Q: Did you go see any fireworks this year? Or maybe have your own fireworks?

  1. Oh Lisa…so sorry for all the aches and pains you’re experiencing! The hip/glute area is SO tough to diagnose and pinpoint (at least it always has been for me, LOL). That’s exciting for your son trying out for the OSU marching band! I’ve never seen them perform in person, but I have seen many awesome videos on social media!

    1. I’m guessing the glutes and hip area also take a lot of time to heal. So frustrating!
The OSU band is pretty great, but I think the drum major really puts on an amazing show. Such energy!!

    1. The bison at the park was a fun surprise. I think the Columbus area has a great park system too, just like our area, so I am looking forward to visiting those parks when Zach moves there. My husband and I used to live in Columbus 25 years ago, but we moved back to this area which is where our families live. I don’t think Columbus even had those parks back then!

  2. I’m glad you’re able to use the elliptical and rowing machine without pain; and of course, it’s great that it’s summer and you have cycling as an option. Here’s hoping you get it all figured out and can finally get on the road to recovery!

How exciting for Zack to be trying out for the OSU band in August! Good luck to him!

  3. Sorry you are continuing to have hip and glute issues. That area is so hard to keep happy. Hope the rest does you good. Glad you are able to do so many other activities to stay busy. Have a good week ahead

  4. Oh, I know that feeling- when I’ve been battling an injury I don’t even want to TRY to run- it’s so disappointing when it hurts AGAIN. I hope you get some answers this week.In the meantime you were busy! I’m excited for your son. The best damned band is probably hard to get into, so it’s good that he went to this practice.
Nami is so cute and sweet looking- but in her mind she’s probably a ferocious jungle cat. I hope she passes through the biting stage soon!

  5. We are super “lucky” in that fireworks are legal (three days a year), so people in our neighborhood light them off and put on crazy big shows. We just have to walk outside to see them.

As a UMiami alum, I can’t get too excited about OSU, but how incredible for your son! I hope he crushes that audition! A starts band camp next week, and it will surely be in the 90s as well. Hydration starts now!

    1. Band camp in the summer is so grueling with those hot temps. I don’t know how they don’t have more kids passing out than the few that do!
That is lucky you have easy access to viewing fireworks. I would be up for watching every night of fireworks, but my family doesn’t share my enthusiasm for them 😂

  6. sorry to hear about your injury… hopefully it heals quickly.

Working at a race is depressing when you are injured but so rewarding.

I ran a race on the 4th and watched the fireworks from my hose (they were at a local park)

    1. I’m actually feeling a bit blah about running, so I wasn’t feeling jealous when I worked the race. It was nice to have a purpose and help out our club!
