The word for this week was humidity!! So humid. Another word is flexibility. Most of my scheduled workouts were moved around this week, but that’s ok, I got them all done. Miles run per plan = 35 miles. Biking was on the low side this week, 33 miles. Also this week, Cedar Point and camping! Here’s what went down…
Mon – 7 miles running. Speed workout day! Today’s workout was 6 miles at MP. Or maybe it was 5 miles at MP. I’m not really sure how it was supposed to be, but I ran 6 miles and it went well!

We finally took the kayak out! It was a calm but short trip around the quarry. It’s been so darn hot no one ever wants to go out, but today was the day.

3.5 miles running – Metroparks Monday! Dave’s Running had a Saucony shoe rep at the weekly run and we got to try out Endorphin Elite 2, Endorphin Speed 5 and the Hurricane shoes. I chose the Hurricane since it has max cushion and is different than my running shoes. I’m still debating if I like that much cushion! Not bad, but maybe a bit less would be better? Zach’s girlfriend joined us too and Sydney ran with me! We all love shoe rep nights 🙂 My daughter thought the Elites did not have enough ankle support for her and the verdict on the Speeds was that they were similar to the Speed 4’s (which is good because I just bought a pair of Speed 4s!).

Tues – 30 miles biking. I skipped my morning run due to running last night. But Tues is Ladies Ride and TAB group ride so we did that. With our commute I got 30 miles.

Weds – 3 mile run. 58 degrees in the morning, perfect running weather! Just a short run before work, and before we spent the afternoon at Cedar Point! The only day my family could coordinate a day at the park together was in the afternoon. Cedar Point is on a peninsula so there is usually a lake breeze which feels pretty good.

We went on the new ride Siren’s Curse. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a tilt coaster. The car hangs for about 7 seconds and then tilts down to meet the track. It’s a very smooth coaster and pretty cool. I think the redesigned Top Thrill 2 is much better. We waited an hour to ride Siren’s Curse and that would probably be the max I would wait for it. (FYI, my top 5 Cedar Point coasters = Steel Vengeance, Millennium Force, Top Thrill 2, Maverick… and Siren’s Curse!)
Thurs – 5 mile run. This should have been a track workout, but I wasn’t feeling it, so I passed on that!

I had to work in the afternoon which really threw me off for the rest of the week. I kept thinking it was still Weds! We didn’t even go on the group ride today because it was sooooooo hot. 94 degrees! Instead the kids and their significant others went swimming and we had tacos. So nice to have all of them there together.
Fri – 14 miles, long run! Another schedule change up. I thought it would be less humid in the early morning but it ended up being rainy, which felt pretty good! When I got a text from my work that I needed to help someone out, I kicked it into high gear and the last 4 miles of this run turned into race pace miles. Who knew I had that in me??

We said goodbye to our foster kittens. I always miss snuggling with the fosters, but I truly love the feeling of having a clean, functional room again! I think we will be taking a break from fostering kittens right now. I did a lot of laundry this past week due to kitten accidents and I won’t miss that chore! “Hissy kitty” never did warm up, but hopefully he will chill out when he goes to a forever home.

Sat – Rest day! We went camping in Indiana today. This was a special trip because we had a guest – our daughter’s boyfriend joined us! Wish the weather would have been better though. It was drizzly and humid. However, we did ride bikes, took a walk and ate s’mores.

You can’t control the weather but the park was packed, everyone making the best of it. Thankfully we were not located near this group. We enjoy our quiet camping time haha!

Sun – 2 easy miles. Campground run! Also “another humid run”. Sigh. I look forward to some comfortable Fall camping trips!

Q: Do you think Siren’s Curse looks fun?

Good job on getting your workouts completed even if at different times than usual.
Bummer that your weekend weather in Indiana wasn’t ideal, but it sounds like you made the most of it.
I would be terrified on Siren’s Curse!
I’ll call our camping trip with the daughter’s boyfriend a “really good trial run”. Despite the less than ideal conditions, he was a trooper and wasn’t bothered by it. He’s welcome to camp with us any time! Camping in July kinda sucks and we all agreed we should avoid it LOL. Unfortunately it was the only time we could schedule it with the kid’s work schedules.
Ooh. No thanks on that scary coaster!! Way to power through the humidity and get some good workouts in. Rough summer! You are inspiring me to get back on my bike
The bike feels great in hot weather, no complaints there! We were not in the first row of the coaster, but I bet it’s next level if you do get to ride in that spot! We weren’t able to see the track connecting from the seats we were in, but it was still a bit of a thrill.
what a nice treat to try out all the new Saucony’s! And to have your kids with you too. You fit in a lot especially with that heat!
A tilt coaster, scary!!
Always nice to run in new shoes! Those Hurricanes were crazy cushioned. Not surprising that my daughter wanted something with more support than the Elites. I’m surprised they had them there.
I’ve probably said this before, but it’s great that your kids are so active! My oldest daughter just bought a bike, so that’s a positive sign, right? My son did a day of RAGBRAI, a couple years ago. He liked it, but hasn’t returned…but his GF’s parents are huge RAGBRAI fans, so us parents are gonna work on the kids, LOL. I’m jealous of all your trips to Cedar Point! I love roller coasters!
My daughter has really made great progress on enjoying cycling, so there’s hope for your kids too! Her BF will be joining us on the metric century ride coming up soon. I’m so happy we’ve gained a riding partner and that he encourages my daughter to ride more!
Yay for Cedar Point! I am not a roller coaster girl but I’m looking forward to taking my kids there sometime. My oldest is finally tall enough to go on some rides! I love Sauconys – would love to try out some new ones. How fun! And how fun to go camping and get in a campground run. Despite the humidity – sounds like a good and active week!
Riding on Iron Dragon and the Mine Ride at Cedar Point at rites of passage for all kids. I hope your oldest will want to go on those! Even if you’re in Kiddie Kingdom all day it’s still a great day full of memories.
The best thing about Siren’s Curse? I don’t have to do it lol! Someone posted an evacuation from that ride on Tik Tok and while I love the idea of it, there’s just no way. I’ve never been to Cedar Point, but it always looks so fun. And I do love roller coasters but the older I get, the less likely I am to get on them. I’m so glad you had fun, though!
Love the running shoe reviews! How fun that your kids got in on it!
Yessss! Siren’s Curse has had to be evacuated several times now. I can only imagine the amount of technology involved in making sure those tracks line up is tremendous and even the slightest bit of discrepancy would trip an alarm. We ended up waiting an hour for the ride because it was down for some reason right before we got on it.
The shoe rep was out just to drum up some business, no reviews required! Each month a different company comes out during the summer so we can try out the shoes. I love new shoes 🙂 🙂
I’ve experienced a sever tragedy in my, ahem, older age, which is that swoopy rides make me nauseous. I know. I used to LOVE roller coasters. Sigh!
Anyway, great week of workouts in spite of the humidity. Yes, it’s the humidity that kills me here. Especially in the early morning, it’s terrible.
How fun to be hanging with both kids and their significant others! And… I’m sad to see the kittens go, but I get what you’re saying about all the work. We thought about fostering this summer, but I don’t know if I’m truly up for it.
There are a few coasters that I slightly dread riding on at Cedar Point now because they might not feel so good depending on which row I get seated in. Sometimes I’ll just let the kids ride those and I’ll go to something else on my own!
The tabby kitten has been such a stinker. She got sick, wasn’t eating and losing weight… and then when she got better she started peeing outside the box on our sofa covers. Ugh. So, “miss ya”, but also, “I’m so over that”. haha!
It sounds like you had a great week – minus the humidity. I am so thankful we don’t have to deal with this, although we do get pretty hot temps around here. Not this week though – it was so mild for July! We barely hit 85F.
I am not one for rollercoasters, so no, the Siren’s Call does not look like fun to me AT ALL – LOL. 😉
California weather does sound pretty wonderful! Humidity is so gross. I love being outside and it’s such a bummer. I’m just thankful we have an air conditioned camper to sleep in and we aren’t in a tent!
You got a lot done despite the heat and humidity!
How nice to get to try all those running shoes! I’m not a big fan of ultra-cushioned shoes, I think it feels like walking on sponge and feels unstable and like I’ll sprain the ankle! That was almost my feeling with the Altras I had last year even if they’re only 25 mm in stack height. They were trail shoes although I used them for everything, and I’m so glad they made the new upgraded version, the Lone Peaks I have now are the absolutely perfect trail shoes. For my other walking shoes (Escalante 4) I’m actually thinking of getting some more cushion when I need to buy new ones, but I’ll probably change my mind 10 times before that happens, haha!
I understand about the foster kittens, it must be a lot of work and even if they’re cute it’s still another chore!
Scooping kitty litter multiple times a day does get pretty old! Time for a break!
I think those ultra cushioned shoes would be pretty great for walking, especially on a big trip. They do feel so odd for running though. It is fun to try all sorts of different shoes.
One of our local newscasters is a coaster fanatic. Before Sirens’ Curse debuted to the public, he went to Cedar Point to test it out and report on it for the news. I have to say: NOT FOR ME! Yikes. But I have been waiting for you to share that you rode it! Glad you liked it.
Yes, this humidity has been ridiculous. When I went to Alabama this week, it felt just like the weather at home, which is not normal! Getting up and out the door has been the way to go these days. Nice work on all your workouts.
Siren’s Curse does seem a bit gimmicky. There is another coaster at CP which tilts, but stays on the same track, and I’m happy enough to ride it once and then I don’t need to do it again. To me it’s not the thrill ride that I’d like to do multiple times and wait in line for. I’m sure it’s a completely different story if you’re riding in the front row, so hopefully I’ll get to do that. Right now they don’t let you wait longer for the front line. You just have to sit where they tell you to sit!
NO on the rollercoaster. LOL
You certainly fit in a lot of different activities.
What a sweaty summer so far…
When you get more fosters?
Sorry about the humidity and kitten yucks, sounds like you do need a rest from that! I’ve been on a rollercoaster exactly once, a WOODEN one and it was horrific. But nice you all have that to share!
