Woohoo!  I did it.  Got that 20 miler done today!  And it actually went quite well 🙂  Overall pace was 9:29.  I only had 3 miles that were slower than 9:30, so for a run where I wasn’t trying to hit any pace, just running by feel, that’s pretty great!  Also, no rest stops involved.  Always a good thing.

All geared up and ready to go!

The run didn’t even seem to drag on forever like I feared it might.  One big change about this run was that I didn’t get started until 11am because I had a dentist appt.  Usually I would have been running at 8:30am.  But the great thing is that it was perfect practice for Boston because my start time won’t be until 11:20 or so.

Post run beauty!

Nice hat!!  The run only had a little bit of wind and on the way back I was actually in the sun so I was getting a bit warm.  Pulled that balaclava up over my face in a fashionable hat.  Who knew it could be worn so many ways! 🙂

Over that 3 hours and 10 mins I had many things to think about.  Like, if my iPod is a Shuffle, why does it always seem to play the same songs when I shuffle it?  I know I have some hidden great songs on there that just never make the rotation!  My run didn’t seem that bad because I knew it was just going to be 10 miles, out and back.  10 miles isn’t bad.  I can do that!  I will say it did suck a bit at miles 18 & 19 and really made me question my sanity for wanting to even participate in marathon running… but I’m hoping that was just the pain talking and I’ll change that tune when spring arrives!

This was the bad part of my run – what the heck happened to my hair!?  I had a hair appointment within 45 mins of me arriving home from the run and I had to get that thing out of there (and eat, and shower…)!  That took up a large amount of my time, but eventually I got it out, and made it to my appointment.  Ah, hair coloring!!

After dinner I went to see my speedy friend who is also running Boston, and we discussed new shoes (Newton Boco AT’s), sold her my 2nd Boston jacket (yeah, now I don’t have to return it!), and Oooohed and Ahhhhed over her new treadmill (Precor, sweet!!).

To end my day, getting down to a few tunes with Just Dance.  Sadly, both Sydney and her friend were both kicking my butt.  How did that happen??

Hopefully I will sleep good tonight.  I always have aches and pains that keep me awake at night when I have runs longer than 16 miles.  Therefore, I’m alway proactive with taking some Aleve before bed in hopes it won’t bother me.  I’m feeling a lot better than I was after that snowy 18 miler last night, so hopefully that trend will continue tomorrow!

Q: Are you any good at Just Dance?  Favorite songs?

A: I used to be, but apparently the kids play it more than me and I need more practice!  I love all of the songs by One Direction.

Q: Anyone else getting in some long runs this weekend?  I hope they go well!

  1. So great that you ran 20 miles! Incredible! I’ve never ran that far before! Did you listen to music the whole way? I’m interesting in getting some talking books or podcasts or something for my long runs but need to figure out the technology if it all 🙂 I’ve never done Just Dance but I did ballet and jazz ballet for ten years so maybe I would be ok at it! Having said that I’m actually not very coordinated so it could go either way 🙂 hope you have a good rest after your beast of a run!

    1. I listened to my music on the 10 miles out – mostly wondering when I was going to find those “hidden treasures” of songs that never come up on my Shuffle. On the way back I listed to podcasts. Podcasts and books are a great way to pass the time on a long run. It takes your mind off the distance. If you have an Apple device, you can get the podcasts through iTunes. But don’t get me started on iTunes. I could spend several blog posts ranting about how much I dislike that program. It’s confusing!! I listen to podcasts about running (AnotherMotherRunner), entertainment (Naturally Nicole), current events (NPR Wait Wait Don’t Tell me), and even tons of them about Disney World when I was going to take a trip there. Very entertaining stuff!
