Week 12 of my Glass City Marathon training is done, and it was another solid week of training. My knee is almost a non issue now, and I only hear the occasional creak when I’m going down stairs.
I ran 51.6 miles this week! Top mileage week for my plan so far.
Monday – 6.5 miles, intervals. Treadmill. I had to mix up my workouts this week due to travel. So, instead of “track Tuesday”, it was “get my butt MOVING MONDAY”. Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. Haha Anyhow, this was the “Yasso 800” workouts most training plans have, but unfortunately I didn’t get to run these outside and see what they predicted. If you haven’t heard of this theory, you should read this… It’s an interesting concept. This run did go well, and my knee wasn’t even complaining about it. Woohoo!! The rest of my world was not having a good Monday, but at least the workout side of it was. Always a good stress reliever!
Tuesday – 7 easy miles, treadmill. Since when did “7” become a number for easy miles?? Oh yeah, in marathon training 😉 I was actually surprised because I thought this was going to be 5 miles. 7 miles done!! Here’s a shot of my treadmill 🙂

Wednesday – 9 miles, tempo run. Speedwork was 7 miles of alternating marathon pace (8:50) and faster pace (8:30-8:20). I had to run this on the treadmill, so I guess it went OK. One fun thing I noticed today was that when the music came on during the movie I was watching (Mamma Mia 2), my pace felt easier and quicker. I will be running with music *for sure* during my marathon!

This run was followed up by a yummy drink!

Thursday – 5 easy miles. I decided to run on a different trail to mix it up a little today.

This was fun running down. Until I realized I had to run back up to the top. Doh!

Friday – 20 miles. I was a bit uninspired to say the least about getting out the door to run. It was dreary, and I was running all by myself. I loaded up my podcasts and got moving though, because I knew it was going to take 3+ hours, so I needed to get it started! When I got to the trail I actually sang a little song when I saw this beautifulness!! Wow!

I ran all the way to this dam. Rumor has it that you need to spit into the dam for good luck, so I did!

And then I had to shoo these geese away. They are mean sometimes!

As fate would have it, Alan decided to run the same trail so we ran about 10 miles together. Then I told him we had to do the jump shot at the end. He’s a good sport 🙂 I was sooooooo happy to be done with this one! 9:19 pace overall. I was trying to negative split this run, but the last 3 miles really just didn’t have it. Oh well. Still a good run!

Saturday – rest day, no running!
Sunday – 4 miles easy.

Q: Did you have a good week of workouts?
Q: Do you ever to the Yasso 800 workout as a predictor?
Q: Do you have Canadian geese where you live?
So glad to hear that your knee if feeling better! Way to go on your 20 miler and a fabulous high mileage week. Thanks so much for linking up with us for the weekly run down
I actually forgot it was Sunday and ran – I thought it was Monday! Being on vacation made me confused. It’s a good problem to have! 🙂
Love the rumor about spitting in the damn. Too funny! Keep crushing your training. You are rocking the mileage!
Thanks! Just a few more long runs and then I’ll be tapering. 5 more weeks until race day!
I have to say I have never done the Yasso 800’s (and I’ve done eight marathons). Maybe I ought to give those a try? Mamma Mia would have me dancing (none too gracefully), So I’d best be on ground (and not a treadmill) if that ever happens LOL Thanks for linking with us 😉
Oh yes, you should give the Yasso 800s a try sometime! Mamma Mia is a pretty great movie (and play!). I didn’t get to finish the 2nd movie though. Next treadmill run I will!
Wow that’s amazing mileage – terrifying to me! I can only run even two days in a row if it’s a long run and a recovery run. I can see how it makes you fitter and probably faster, though. I’m just seeing a change in my glute activation and hoping it will make me stronger and more able to push things occasionally.
I do love your comment about a 7 miler being an easy run. The times I’ve complained, “Oh, I only did 8” and other people have gone, “I wish I could run that far, full stop!”. There’s perspective for you.
Hope the knee continues to behave and well done on a great week!
I really have come far with this training plan. I really didn’t think I was going to hold up running this high mileage and more than 4 days in a row – but it’s been going well. Fingers crossed!!
Great mileage you had this week! I like that you were able to mix it up by running outside and on the treadmill.
Until the summer, I’ll still be hitting the treadmill a few days a week. It’s too dark out there for me to run outside before work! That’s ok, there’s always a good TV show to watch. 🙂
People say pigeons are rats with wings, I give that “honor” to canada geese. So gross and foul
What a great photo and congrats on the run
Those geese really do make a mess!! We have a lot of them here.
