Hope you had a Happy Easter! It was a beautiful sunny day here. I had dinner with my parents and family, and we took a walk in the park earlier in the day. Baskets were hidden, and eggs were found!

I ended up with a lot of miles this week, but it’s actually my taper week! My mileage will cut back a lot this week.
- Miles run: 40.2
Monday – 5 miles, easy treadmill. I woke up feeling a little better than I went to bed, so I decided to give running a try. The run actually went well! I didn’t feel any soreness in my hammies or glutes, so that was a win. What was a fail was that by noon I was feeling like major crap, with aches and chills. I work until 3:30pm so I figured I would just hold out until then… and then I hurried home and crawled into bed for an hour nap! By the end of the evening I was feeling better temperature wise, but still sick.
Tuesday – 5 miles, easy treadmill. This was supposed to be intervals, but that wasn’t happening. I woke up a lot last night feeling sweaty, but felt good enough for another run this morning, even slower than yesterday. My goal was to sweat out the cold, and it sure felt like it was working because I was really sweaty on the treadmill! My temperature was all over the place, but by midday I was feeling pretty good, just really congested.
Wednesday – 6 miles, easy treadmill. Still feeling congested. My head felt pretty crappy when I was sleeping, and it was tough to breath, but luckily it drained a bit by the time I woke up. I certainly don’t think running is making it any worse, so got my 6 miles done.
Thursday – 7 miles, tempo run Yuck, yuck, yuck. Oh man, this was a hot mess. I had a great night’s sleep and was feeling much less congested, so I figured I’d give this a try. The workout was 1 mile warm up and then 5 miles of fartleks with 3 mins on and 1 min off. Not sure what pace was supposed to be, but my first “on” was my 5K pace. Woohoo, going great. From there it took a sharp turn into sucktown and each “on” was slower until very soon my “off” was walking and the “on” was getting slower and slower. I was just too ambitious on this one!! Epic fail.

Friday – Rest day! Took a trip to a natural history museum. Saw some cool stuff!

Saturday – 5.1 miles…. for my 51st birthday! It was supposed to my long run day, but it was rainy and crappy all day. I couldn’t pass up my birthday miles, so I ran on the treadmill again. I got to change the age on my treadmill, so that was fun 🙂

Besides working on some projects all rainy day, we went out to dinner…

My daughter made me this delicious cake.

My husband got me a hilarious birthday card.

I also got some new pedals for my bike (clipless) and some Aftershokz headphones! A great birthday 🙂

Sunday – 12 miles, long run. Last “long run” before my marathon next Sunday. I’m excited because this went really well! My plan was to run slower for the first half, but I was actually having a hard time slowing down. It was a good confidence boost. I also ran into a friend and joined her for a mile. Said hi to more friends, chatted with a guy who was also training for the full marathon, and gave a high five to my neighbor as he passed by. Woot!!

Despite the bad start of my week, it ended pretty good. I have some renewed confidence for my upcoming race. I can’t believe in less than a week I’ll be toeing the line again at a full marathon!!

Q: Do you ever give fellow runners a high five when you pass?
I hope he knew it was me!
Q: Have you tried the Aftershokz headphones? They are really cool!
Q: Did you host an Easter meal at your house?
Happy Birthday (a day late) 😉 I hope all that crap vacates your body soon! The weird cough/cold I had lasted forever (well, maybe only a little over 2 weeks, but still ). Thanks for linking!!
Thanks! I am actually feeling almost 100% better now… and my husband and son are now coughing up their lungs. Ugh!!! Must resist further sickness.
Happy birthday! Looks like it was a fun week for you. Sounds like you are ready for next weekend. Good luck and can’t wait to hear how it goes. Thanks for joining us for WRD
I’m getting sooooo nervous for race day! It can’t get here soon enough.
Great week of workouts – you’re so ready for next weekend! And so glad that you were feeling better this week too.
Happy belated birthday! It looks like you had a great time celebrating 🙂
Thanks! My family did a great job and making my day special.
Happy Belated Birthday! Your daughter’s cake looked amazing! And so glad you ran out that cold and congestion especially with your race so close!
Oh I am a big high fiver!! I love meeting people on a run. Although today someone was waving frantically from the other side of the road and I had no clue who it was as I wasn’t wearing my glasses. But I made sure I waved just as frantically back! LOL!
ha! I had a car in my neighborhood do the same thing… they were waving A LOT. I figured I must have known them, but had no clue who the heck it was. Friendly folks. haha!!!
I’m so so glad you had a great last long run after days of feeling crap and having sucky runs! doesn’t this always seem to happen before the marathon??? At least it seems my husband is having a similar experience. Not feeling sick but bad back pain again. And his marathon is next week too 🙁 Fingers crossed it goes well for BOTH of you!
happy 51st! looks like you had a GREAT celebration!
Oh nooooo, back pain? I hope that is not a show stopper for him and he gets some relief. That is no fun at all!
Sounds like you’re going to be feeling all-the-way better just in time for your race! Happy Birthday! That is one good looking cake and it sounds like everybody treated you like a queen!
My husband said the cake is too rich for him… more cake for me!! 🙂
Happy Belated Birthday! You had a great week and definitely ready for your marathon. I hope you like the Aftershokz headphones. I don’t have a pair but many people rave about them.
I got the “Mini” size of the headphones, which are for smaller heads. I love the sound, but now they are rubbing a little. I hope I didn’t get the wrong size 🙁 I guess they can be exchanged? hmmmm
Happy belated birthday! That cake your daughter made looks delicious 🙂
The cake was delish!! I’m lucky she enjoys baking 🙂
Happy belated birthday! That cake looks amazing! Glad you had a good long run. Ending your training with a confidence booster is much better than finishing in sucktown. 😉 You got this!
Sucktown is definitely a downer. haha! I probably should have slowed it down a bit, but oh well, it was feeling good at the time! Now, a little sore. oops.
Sounds like a wonderful birthday!! I love my clipless pedals–but they do take some getting used to! Excited to see how you do at the marathon.
Happy belated birthday, Lisa! Damn, you make 51 look good! You know what else looks good? The cake Sydney made you. 🙂
I’m so glad Sydney joins me in my love of things that are decadent! Alan isn’t the biggest fan of that stuff. I got carded at Aldi buying beer this week! And the lady was almost my age too.
