It’s week 2 of training for the Glass City Marathon (April 24th). I did switch my schedule around this week so I had an extra rest day. 24.5 miles run, vs 28 on the schedule. Even though I’m keeping up pretty well, my Garmin has rated all of my runs “unproductive” this week. Buzz kill! But still, I’m feeling good after having covid so that’s exciting! My goal this week was to soak up as much time as I could with my daughter before she heads back to college. Mission accomplished!
Mon – Rest day. I switched my training days up a bit because I figured going back to the office today was going to be a bit rough, so I opted for extra sleep instead of running early. It was a Monday for sure, but I got through it. Ha!
Tues – 5 miles, treadmill. Hooray for today! 11 days post COVID start and I’m feeling good again! I even woke up 15 mins before my alarm and got my workout done on the treadmill before work, without my heart rate blowing through the roof. I kept it easy and everything was fine.
Weds – Cross training – strength workout. I did a Peloton Strength for Runners class with Matt Wilpers. Good news, he wasn’t chatty. Bad news, the repetitive nature of this workout bored me to death. I almost didn’t finish it, but for the sake of not being a quitter, I finished it. I’m just not a fan of the repeated sets of the same move!
Thurs – 5.25 miles, tempo run. Tempo runs are my favorite training runs. This one had the middle 3 miles at marathon pace. It always feels good to successfully hit the paces! My HR was even in a decent zone. A nice chilly morning along the river.

Finally, time to take down the Christmas decorations. Always a bittersweet moment – the house is empty feeling but also uncluttered!

Fri – 4 miles. Despite my tempo run being good, my HR was high on this run again and Garmin once again deemed my training status “unproductive”. We spent the afternoon in Ann Arbor, which is where the University of Michigan is. It’s a fun college town and we shopped the thrift stores and record shops. We also went to Graffiti Alley for a modeling session!

Sat – 10 miles, long run. I was happy with this run! Was hoping to keep it around 10:00 for an easy pace, but ended up closer to 9:45 and 9:30 for most of it. That felt good. It was really cold! I took a different route and went into the woods to stay a bit warmer. 10 miles, or scary jazz hands?

Fun afternoon – the trampoline park! We had some gift cards from about 5 years ago and we finally decided to use them. Sooooo much fun! Our SkyZone now has Ninja Warrior obstacles and they were really cool. I was unable to get up the warped wall. On my 2nd attempt I landed on my foot odd, which hurt so I put an end to that! But my son did make it up the really tall wall and my daughter and husband got up the small one.
My favorite was doing flips!
They also had a trapeze which really freaked me out at first, but it was really fun too. Everything was all fun! Extra fun fact – a guy lost his wallet in this pit and his wife offered me an ice cream cone if I found it while I was climbing out. LOL!!!! (maybe she thought I was 12 yrs old??)

Sun – 30 mins elliptical, to shake off the soreness from yesterday 🙂 Time to move my daughter back in at college. [insert sad tears here] Just when I was getting used to having her home again, and the drama she brings, it’s time to take her back to her dorm. I’m sure we’ll see her again very soon, so it’s all good.
Q: Have you ever been to a trampoline park?
Q: Do you have the day work for Martin Luther King day?
I do! I look forward to a bonus fun day!

Congrats on a good week from the other side of COVID. Those “unproductive” days will be history soon.
This will be my first time since leaving school that I’ve had MLK day off! And we have “use it or lose it” vacation as well, so I’m looking forward to truly logging off and detaching from work instead of spending vacation tethered to email like I have in years past.
Oh good – I hope you have a fun/relaxing/productive Monday without work! I always end up taking unpaid vacation days during the year, after exhausting my paid days. I’m all about getting away!
That is great that you are finally feeling recovered and back to successful runs. I am learning to like tempo runs as well. I have not been to a trampoline class since my kids were younger. Very fun!
It’s a bit sad when things we used to do with younger kids don’t happen anymore. The trampolines were still just as much fun as when the kids were smaller, although I know we were older than most people there! I was probably the most excited about being there. I told them I could go there every month!
That trampoline adventure looks SO fun! Glad you’re feeling better and are past the Covid wall 😉 I like tempo runs, too, though it’s been awhile since I last had the pleasure, LOL.
I like the way the tempo runs build up your endurance and confidence, and really help you learn the feel of your race pace. Hopefully Garmin will start giving me some positive ratings soon!
No, I’ve never been to a trampoline park! How sore were you the next day? It looks really fun.
My son went back to school today as well- so sad! Life will be calmer and duller for a while- he’ll be back in March for spring break.
I don’t have off on Monday, but my daughter and husband do. Not having to get my daughter up and ready for school makes more morning much more relaxed though!
Oddly enough I had sore shoulders, triceps and abs from jumping! My son didn’t but my daughter said she felt like an old person this morning. haha!! I hope you settle back in to a single kid household rhythm easily. I do miss the noise already!
I have not been to a trampoline park, but it looks like a lot of fun! I’m glad you are continuing to feel better post-covid. Hopefully your Garmin data will reflect that this week.
I sure hope Garmin is kinder this week. It’s such a bummer to see unproductive!
I hope your foot is ok! I also cannot believe you love tempos. I so don’t (but I’ll do them when I’m training for something).
Never been to a trampoline park. But then I don’t have kids & am not very coordinated either.
Glad that you are feeling so much better! I don’t know what your Garmin is talking about, i’d call that a productive week!
I think my foot will be OK. I bent it kind of odd and flexed it back too far. Ouch! I was a bit bummed that I was the only one who couldn’t make it up the wall.
How fun that you went to Ann Arbor! Is that close to you? I’ve heard it’s a very pretty town. I’d love to go but it’s not an easy drive from here.
I haven’t been to a trampoline park in years! I’m not sure if I want to risk injury by going there, lol
Ann Arbor is pretty close – only an hour away. It does have a lot of quirky shops and cool stores. Back when I was a college student we’d go there for concerts and finding all of the indy punk records!
My friend hurt her ankle at the trampoline park so it kinda scares. I’m pretty clumsy.
Looks like an active week to me. Stupid Garmin lol
I agree – the trampolines definitely have a risk factor involved! I’m kind of surprised I didn’t hurt myself.
I’m glad you’re on the mend! Your flips are amazing! I did go to a trampoline park maybe 8 years ago and had a blast. It was a workout too!
Tempos are my favorite as well. What a lovely sunrise picture!
We were working up a sweat on the trampolines for sure! I am shocked how sore my abs and shoulders are from going there. I really could go there many times a year. Super fun!
I have not been to a trampoline park or anything similar for adults, but it certainly sounds fun!
Tempo runs are okay, but track repeats are my favorite speed workouts.
Being self employed, I don’t get any days off with pay so I’m working tomorrow. We got snow all afternoon that has turned to sleet and may turn to freezing rain overnight so some of my clients may need to cancel in the morning due to the roads being slick.
Sure they were having birthday parties for 9 year olds at the trampoline park, but who says the adults can’t have fun too?? haha!! I’m just a big kid at heart.
Sadly I don’t get holidays off paid either, but I’m all about getting an extra day out of the office!
Mean Garmin! Gorgeous sunrise.
Until I looked closely I thought it was a critter supervising your de-Christmasing
Glad you’re feeling better though.
We’re closed for MLK. I’m not sure if it’s a city holiday but since it’s a state and federal, we’re covered. Oddly the only one of the usual holidays we don’t get is Veterans Day.
i just peeked at my Garmin and it’s says I’m still unproductive. Geeezzz. That is mean!!
I most definitely do not have MLK day off. I’ve got a 5am start in fact.
I love Ann Arbor and I really thought Thing 1 might have gone to school there, alas it was well below zero there when we did the college visit and she wanted no part of that climate. The trampoline park looks so fun! Did you find the wallet?
That’s funny – I did see a few college tours going on while we were there. I do think it could be a hard sell with the gloomy days of January, but I bet the campus looks really great in the spring! My son would like to go there. He’s holding out for wherever he gets a full ride 🙂 (positive thoughts!!)
They were still pulling cubes out of the pit when we left the trampoline park, but hopefully he did find it! I did see another guy looking around another area of the building. I think that was a different guy, so maybe that happens often? Good thing my phone was in my tights pocket and was safe!
I’m so glad you’re feeling well again!
I took down the end of the holiday decorations this week, too. Now, it’s on to Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day.
You do such a good job decorating! I will probably only put out a few spring decorations when that time comes.
We finally took down our Christmas decorations down as well. It always makes me sad because I love how festive everything looks!
So glad that you are feeling well post-Covid. I love the Peloton strength classes but have noticed that some of them can be very repetitive.
