It’s been a week of technical challenges… in WordPress hell!  My husband and I struggled through a migration of my blog from a cloud hosted provider to our local network.  And then, as plan B, moving to another cloud hosted provider.  As I type, my blog could be transferred any day… fingers crossed (so don’t be surprised if you see a different looking blog here next time because it’s probably also getting a new theme/facelift!  Anyhow, it’s been a pretty good week of running and workouts.  My week ended on a high note.  I ran 24 miles this week, and went to the gym a few times.  Here’s what went down –

Mon – 5 miles, treadmill.  I found a book that sounded perfect – Quick Strength for Runners.  It had me at “one hour a week”!  It has pictures of the exercises and so far the workouts have been pretty light and only take 15 mins each day.  I’m sure they will progress as the weeks go on.

Tues – 4 miles.  It was slippery and bit frozen outside today so I opted for the treadmill.  Our foster kitten Camden is getting quite mischievous these days!  Time to get out the water spray bottle for some behavior modification!

Weds – Rest day!  We finally hung up our marathon posters.  Boston is from 2015, and this year’s Chicago poster.

Thurs –  3 miles, nothing much to report on this neighborhood run, but it was still chilly out!

We took a trip to Frankenmuth MI, which is a cute little town styled as a German village.

It has a lot of Christmas charm with Bronner’s, a huge Christmas shop. They have every ornament imaginable! Here are two fitness ones. Look at that lady lifting weights!

Fri – 5 miles.  Trying to keep my HR down, easier said than done!  But I get extra credit for this run because it all happened in the rain.  I was excited to try out my Chicago Marathon jacket which seemed highly water repellent, but it turns out that I only stayed dry for about a mile.  Oh well, it’s still a cool jacket! I also worked the packet pickup for the Christmas Village race.

Sat – 4 mile morning run.  I met up for a group run.  Many in this group were in the training group from when I was a coach a few years ago.  It was fun to catch up with everyone!  A funny story – I got teased for wearing my Boston jacket!  I didn’t realize it was going to rain but I did grab a few clothes for post run or if I wanted to change up my gear when I got there.  I figured with the Boston jacket it would be a little more water resistant than my quarter zip so I decided on that when I arrived.  My friend teased me that I was bragging 😉  It was all in good fun though.  After the run I got a peppermint Frosty cold brew to celebrate getting out and being social!

Several in the group ran 8 miles but I had to save my legs for my evening holiday race! The Christmas Village 5K happened at dusk, right before the local parade and tree lighting ceremony. I was SUPER happy and a bit surprised to see my finish time – 25:53!! It’s been a while since I’ve seen 25: in my 5K time. Yay! Here’s a race recap…. Mile 1 – 8:21, getting up to speed. There’s a lot of people running that I haven’t seen before and they are keeping up well! Mile 2 -8:08, I’m in the groove now. Can I keep up this pace? Feeling pretty good. Mile 3 – 8:11, pretty close. Almost there! Final sprint: 7:53, I see the clock. woohoo, can I get under 26?? Yessssss!

We celebrated in the beer garden.  I got 2nd in my age group, but no awards for that.  Bummer!

Sun – Rest day! I spent most of the day baking cookies and working on Christmas gifts. We toured the Manor House at our metropark. Beautifully decorated for Christmas!

My daughter joined us for decorating cookies. I’m glad she is close enough to come home for some holiday traditions while she’s in college.

As for our little foster Camden, he’s been quite a rambunctious, but adorable kitten this week 🙂

Q: Are you getting ready for the holidays? Shopping? Baking?

I’m going to be sending out some Christmas cards soon. I’m feeling quite prepared right now!

  1. Congrats on your race and a good running week! I also love your workout space (where you hung the posters!).

I am looking forward to the holidays… a lot of baking, decorating, mailing things on the horizon 🙂 but it’s all fun.

P.S. I recently moved hosting providers and know about the pain you’re going through but hopefully your blog will be new and shiny on the other side 🙂

    1. You made it to the new hosting! Good to see things are working. It still has a bit of tweaking to do, but I’m happy enough with it right now! (like, why are my fonts so big?? hmmm)

  2. Camden the Kitten is so cute! We daren’t have anything Christmassy up even though Willa is 4 now!! Does the strength training book just use a mat and free weights or gym equipment? I need to sort out a fitness routine and it looks good …

    1. The format of the workouts is body weight exercises on one day and small hand weights on the other. Although I found it interesting that the book said medicine (weighted) balls were the best bang for the buck if you were buying equipment on a budget. I think hand weights would be better than a ball! Anyhow, I’ve liked the workouts so far. And I especially like the pictures guiding me through the workouts!
