Taking flight – don’t worry, I’ll show you how that theme ties into many things that happened this week.  First of all, my weekly workouts!  This week I ran 36 miles and biked 42 miles.  I had some pretty good runs and was caught up in a flurry of activities.  What else is new?  haha! The Berlin Marathon is 5 weeks away now. Things are getting so, so real!

Mon – 5 miles, running.  Had to bust out my glow vest and lamp for this run.  Dislike!  We do have street lights but things just seem creepy in those dark hours.  I miss the early sunrises!

Tues – 8 miles running.  First the morning darkness and now on this run I see the geese flying in formation (taking flight!).  A sure sign that summer is wrapping up!  But yay on the cool temps.

30 miles cycling.  It’s Ladies Ride night!  With a commute to and from the ride this ended up with 30 miles.  Glad I had my arm sleeves for the ride home. It was chilly!!  Alan’s group rides hard so he didn’t think he needed arm sleeves… until that ride home.

Weds – Rest day!  Cardio today was a trip to Cedar Point with Sydney.  She is heading off to college next week so it was nice to enjoy the afternoon with her.  Being a party of 3 is fun – Alan got to make new friends on a ride.  haha. Riding coasters = taking flight.

Thurs – 4 miles running.  Cool temps helping me again – a run with “9:xx” for the pace!  This run was really needed to set me up for a good day.  I had a tech job which took up most of my day and all of my patience.  I got so wrapped up in it that I forgot to do Wordle.  Goodbye 140 day streak.  UGHHH.

Fri – Long run 19 miles!  I got an early start to it, and the weather was great.  Only 51 degrees at the start and I was prepared with some arm sleeves.  I remembered to take 2 gels and I felt really good.  I felt so good that I decided to make my run 19 miles instead of the planned 18 miles.  My pace was consistent for the run too.  What a difference a cool day makes!  Red Bull gives you wings?  Well so does a successful long run (taking flight!).

The rest of the day was spent moving Sydney into her college apartment (taking flight!).  We enjoyed some well earned pizza afterwards.  That beer really hit the spot!

Sat – I was a course marshal at the Boy Scout Half Marathon (and 5K, 10K).  I cheered runners on, with my pompoms of course, and made sure everyone stayed on course and was safe.  Happy to report my legs/body was feeling quite good after my long run yesterday.

I’m not sure why I don’t have a proper “before” picture (excuse my foot in the pic!), but Alan dug up these huge, overgrown ornamental grasses which looked like weeds and we finally got rid of the actual weeds, planted bushes and flowers.  Today we put rocks down.  And oh, it was close to 90 degrees outside.  PHEW!  It’s taken a long time to get here, but we got it done.  It was a very long afternoon of yardwork. Alan did the hard work of hauling the bags of rocks around and my hamstrings got a big workout from bending over and moving them around.

Sun –  15 miles cycling.  Oof.  Feeling all sorts of sore from gardening.  We have released our 15th butterfly this season (taking flight!).  In the process of removing some plants I now have a huge amount of butterfly eggs.  Around 40 of them, and maybe 6 more tiny caterpillars (in addition to the 6 other larger caterpillars we have!!).  I am going to be a busy caterpillar mom!

I probably won’t be in the Weekly roundup next week because I’ll be off on an adventure. I have a feeling it’s going to be a very interesting one. Look – Sam gets to go with us! He is so excited. (yep, he’s taking flight too!)

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

Q: Have you ever been camping with a cat?

Asking for a friend. 😉

  1. Yay for you and all your brave activities – such as riding rollercoasters!
I’m so glad for your successful long run. Only 5 weeks to the Berlin marathon? Time certainly flies!
OMG I would never camp with a cat! I would worry too much that it would disappear.
Have a great week and keep up the good work!

  2. OMG I have never gone camping with a cat! I think that sounds like an adventure!
And I can’t wait to see what you’re off to! You have such fun trips!
    Nice week!

    1. My parents used to camp with a cat and she did quite well (as far as I saw anyways!). Fingers crossed that Sam enjoys it, or at least tolerates it fairly well! Start them early, right?

  3. Somehow I missed this so I’m a week late commenting. HOORAY for a 19 mile run! That marathon is coming up fast, but you’ll be ready. I can’t wait to hear about the camping trip, no I’ve never been camping with a cat. Tell us all about it!!!
