My taper has officially begun and it seems like the miles are just dropping off my training plan. I did run a little farther on my long run than my plan had (16 vs 13.1), but I didn’t want to drop too many miles. Next week will cut back even more, and maybe will bring on some taper madness 😆. I ran 31 miles this week and biked 25 miles. The temperatures were down then up and we ended on a hot note. Only 2 weeks until the Berlin marathon now, and 10 more days until we leave for Europe. YIKES!! (insert very excited and slightly nervous yell here 😉)

Mon – 4 miles running.  Feels like 47 degrees this morning! Wow!  Could my marathon be this temperature, please??  It makes running feel easy, although it is getting tough to get out of bed in the dark for a 4 mile run!

We started the week wishing Alan a happy birthday! Tacos and margaritas for dinner, and yummy cake. (Yes, we do use Christmas wrapping paper for every occasion!)

Tues – 6 miles running.  With temps in the 50’s this also felt good.  The sun made the route look very pretty.  I also went to the gym today.  Long time no see!!

25 miles cycling – Ladies Ride night!  My husband goes out with another group and he ends up with 41 miles total by the time we get home.  Yes, they are riding much, much faster than our social ride!

Weds –  2 miles, lunch walk with my Mom.  My mom got hearing aids this week.  How nice that she can now hear and understand everything I am saying!!  IYKYK

Thurs – 5 miles running.  You may remember seeing my friend pop onto my blog every now and then.  Mostly this happens when it’s almost race time!  We chatted it up and these miles went by fast.  We were twinning! She is training for the Indy (Indianapolis) marathon.

It was a big day around our house – our 32nd wedding anniversary!  ❤️ We went out for some ice cream and strolling around a little town nearby. After dinner we went to a bar at the top of a building downtown. A great view!

Fri – 1.5 miles walking.  Not much exercise happening today, but we did go see the high school football game and see the band play.  It was a good game!  Our team made some really good plays, and, a FEMALE varsity football player kicked a field goal making her the first girl in 75 years to score a goal for our team.  Go girls!!  Our team is undefeated so far this year.

Sat – 16 miles, long run!  I was hoping this would be a bit of a redemption run after last week’s big fade at the end of my long run, but it wasn’t quite that.  However the majority of the miles this week were consistent again until the dreaded hill which hits about 5 miles from my house.  Oh well, I have heard Berlin is a flat course!  😂 It was almost 70 degrees when I finished this run. Too bad it wasn’t 50 degrees! It was 16 miles with 9:40 average pace. I’m happy with that.

Sun – maybe some kayaking, if we get out soon enough. It’s going to be another hot day!

I had a fun fashion craft this week. Shortening my jeans! #shortgirlproblem I think it turned out good! These jeans were actually a petite size. My jeans are always too long!

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

Q: Have you ever cut your jeans to shorten them?

  1. We’ve had some warm weather returning.

Time has flown by. Berlin here you come. What an amazing recovery.

    Happy Anniversary too.

  2. Happy anniversary! I’m impressed you shortened your jeans yourself! Way above my ability level. I was surprised my last pair did not need shortening. Wow Berlin came up fast! So excited for you

  3. Sounds like a great week! Happy birthday to your husband and happy anniversary!!! To answer your question, i need you to shorten my jeans for me. I’m not short, but apparently I have stubby legs because pants are usually too long on me.
AND… we have a boy on our cheerleading squad, now we need a girl on our football team! I’m going to tell my daughter your story- she’s always asking me why there are no girls on our team.
Nice job on your week of training- enjoy the taper crazies : )

    1. I was surprised to see a ponytail hanging out of a helmet, and super excited when she got a chance to play! Woohoo!
Here’s the jeans tutorial- take scissors and cut to length. Done! ✅ easy peasy, no sewing required!

  4. I have shortened my jeans (and other pants) in an effort to make them look like “intentional” cropped pants, LOL. I’m tall (5’9), but “tall” jeans are almost always too long and look awkward. At least now, rolled cuffs seem to still be in vogue, so that helps. Happy Bday to your hubby, and Happy Anniversary to you both!

    1. I’m trying to embrace the straight leg jean fashion, but skinny jeans fit me better since they are purposefully tight in the calves. My athletic calves do not work great for many pant styles!!

  5. Impressive work on the denim!

I’m so excited for you and for the Berlin marathon! There’s a pretty big group going from my run club here, the Mornington Chasers. They usually wear their “kit” which is white with orange and green. Happy taper!

    1. I’ll be on the lookout for them. Who knows, maybe I’ll see someone! I haven’t decided on my race gear yet. Maybe my Run Toledo tank.
I should have mentioned that I only cut the pants off. Raw hems are in fashion so no real work involved there!

  6. I cannot shorten anything! My legs are so long and I’m almost 5’10”. I am constantly on the hunt for longer and taller.

The Christmas wrapping paper is absolutely sending me. How funny!

Get the yucky runs out of the way now and then you’ll be in position for greatness in Berlin. It’s going to be awesome!

    1. Yep, we buy wrapping paper when it’s on Xmas clearance! Some patterns don’t even look like holiday paper!
Too funny about your leg length. Every time I try pants on I wonder who in the heck has legs so long – and now I know!! 😄 I’m 5’4” with some short legs, obviously.

  7. Happy belated birthday to your husband and anniversary to the two of you.

Nice job on hemming your jeans. I must be pretty standard size because the length is usually pretty good for me.

Less than two weeks until Berlin! So exciting!

  8. I’m so excited that you’re already in tapering!!! I feel your pain massively about jeans – I’m also short and always have to adjust most pants I buy.. so annoying. Now I have a problem with waist etc too because I’ve grown glutes and thighs with all my heavy squats so the waist is always too large if I want jeans to fit my thighs. This is of course quite a nice problem when it’s mostly about muscle mass but I think I’ll have to live in leggings from now on. 🙁
So when do you go to Germany?

  9. Happy birthday to Alan.
You must be getting excited about the trip/race… even though the taper is nice, it also always feels a little scary to drop the mileage. You got this. Your last runs were really strong!
