Fun fact – I just learned that tschuss means bye in German! I have been brushing up on my French and my husband has been learning German. Either way, I don’t think less than 60 days of Duolingo is going to get us far in either language, but it was fun to give it a try! I did take 2 years of French in high school and I think I can read French pretty good, but Google Translate will be our friend on our upcoming trip for sure! My training plan is wrapping up – Sunday is race day!! We are getting very excited for the Berlin marathon and for our European trip.

Mon – 4 miles running. Does this happen in your neighborhood? If you’re not familar, TP’ing usually happens when it’s Homecoming week! So yep, it’s that time again.

16 miles biking. Alan and I were going to join a group ride, but ended up changing plans and riding solo at night. The bugs were awful! Why do they need to spoil a nice ride like that? Whomp whomp.

Tues – 6 miles running. This was an interesting run. I had a decent pace and my heart rate was an average of 139. For me, that’s LOW. Every time I saw 13x on my watch I thought it wasn’t working. That’s 30 beats lower than it normally is! Hopefully it wasn’t a tech issue. I was very happy about it!

Weds –  2.25 mile lunch walk with my mom at the park.

Thurs – 10 miles running – last long run!  It was a foggy morning which made it feel pretty good.  My choice of a black top and camo shorts seemed like a bad idea safety-wise in the fog, so I swapped to another top. Probably still not very visible! What was visible? Spider webs! Every where! It was so cool!!

I had to stop and do a celebratory jump because just look how far I’ve come!!  I started this training plan not knowing if I could follow the plan and ended it feeling strong.

This has been an exciting week because we decided to get a new camper!  We looked at an RV show last Sunday and fell in love with this one.  Trading in our old camper was bittersweet for sure.  So many fun family memories with that camper!  I can’t wait to make more memories with this new one.  I think it’s going to work out great for us.

Fri – Rest day, again. Sigh. Tapering is so boring! LOL. No worries, I still got out there before the sun was up. I was working at the Dave’s Running Shop tent sale! My 6:30 am job was to put shoes on tables. Easy task, but it was dark in the tent and it challenged my poor vision (didn’t have my readers!). The tent was organized and ready to go within 3 hours. Big bonus – the early workers had the best pick of shoes! I found these Endophin Pros. It was worth getting up early. I’m saving them for when I’m racing again!

Next stop was to pick up my new iPhone. Happy technology day!!! With a big trip coming up I wanted to upgrade my camera.

A great end to the day was a concert with my Mom. We went to see a Loretta Lynn tribute band. I am not a country music fan at all (ask my family, I really dislike it!!) but this old school country music is what I grew up listening to. My Mom loved it. It was a really good show! Since we were downtown Toledo I also took her up to see the view at the club I went to last week for our anniversary. Crazy us, out at 10:30 pm!

Sat – 3.3 miles running. I had a long day of travel on tap, so a run was needed. Feeling good!

Road trip!  It was a family weekend at Ohio State and we attended the football game.  We had seats that almost touched the sun again, but we were prepared for it.  Thankfully the shade hit our section of seats in the 2nd quarter.  No joke, my legs (and my daughter’s!) were shaking after walking up the many many flights of stairs in the stadium. Ohio State crushed Marshall, 49 to 14.

The halftime show was amazing. It was space/flying themed. We tried to find Zach’s friend who is in the band this year.  We never did see him, but later learned he was an alternate this week and was one of the people making the “smoke” for the rocket formations with fire extinguishers.  How fun!!

Sun – Rest day!  Time to tie up all loose ends and review travel plans. Vacation psych up! Oktoberfest has started and I am ready for it (thank you Aldi!). Oh yeah, and I still have to pack and figure out what I’m wearing on race day! 😆

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

I won’t be around for a few weeks, but follow me on Instagram. I’ll be posting pictures during my trip!

EDIT: it’s Monday and my Airbnb just canceled for the last half of our trip. Yikes, that’s not ideal!! My travel planning skills are being challenged 😭

Q: Have you ever toilet papered anyone’s house??

Ok I’ll admit it, I did!! It was fun 🙂 It was much easier to do back in the days before Ring cameras!

  1. I am so excited for your trip to Germany. Google Translate will come in handy but many people speak decent English over there 😉 I love that you learned “Tschüss”… I use that all the time 🙂
Have a great trip and even better race. I am so happy for you that you’ll get to the start line strong (love that jump photo btw!).

  2. Have a great trip and a great race! You are definitely ready–I’m so happy your training cycle went so well. You’re like the bionic woman…

I hope you find a new place to stay–eeeek!

  3. Tschuss for now! Have fun on your trip – your comeback was incredible and you are going to have a great race. And I get to read about it!!!! Boo to the Airbnb cancellation but I know you’ll find somewhere else.

I don’t like country either but Loretta Lynn is awesome.

I’m getting a new iphone as well! I went for broke and splurged on the latest one. It won’t ship for a few more weeks but it feels good to know that it’s on the way.

  5. OMG, when we went to the Hurricanes/Gators game in Gainesville a few weeks ago, my friend and I were literally in the last row of the stadium. It was so high!

  6. Exciting times! Have a wonderful race – look out for my friend Barinderjit aka Usingh Bolt who has a big beard and is running Berlin! He’s very noticeable so maybe you’ll see him …

  7. Have a great trip and strong race! You will love Berlin! There’s a good Oktoberfest there to enjoy as well! Be sure to get a giant soft pretzel from a place called Ditch. It’s like the German version of 7-11 and their pretzels are the BEST!

  8. Hey, new to the blog! Recommended to me by someone else, actually, because I mentioned that my son is moving to the Toledo area next year. Ok, well, Perrysburg, but still. (My hubs is from there.) I hope he follows through anyway; he has an opportunity to do HVAC. I did know that about German because my husband is learning it! We are going to Oktoberfest next year. I am not training for any foot races right now, just biking, but I enjoyed reading your recap. I should keep track of my training when I run but I always feel like I’m jamming runs into an already busy life.

    1. Howdy! Glad you found my little corner of the internet 🙂 Blogging and writing race recaps does take a bit more time that I think it should, but I do enjoy looking back and seeing the memories. One big thing I learned about Oktoberfest is that the event is held in a huge festival grounds, but downtown Munich is partying every day! And those huge beers are actually pretty easy to drink, even for someone like me who usually only drinks one beer. It’s quite the experience!
