I hope you had a good Thanksgiving! The week was filled with family fun and lots of eating. We had some game nights and decorated the house. December starts my base training for the Glass City marathon in April. The soreness in my back that bothered me last week was mostly gone which was good. I ran 21 miles this week, walked almost 5 miles, and didn’t ride my bike. I have to mention the bike part because I had a yearly goal of riding 1,500 miles this year. I made it to 1,400. For a [super] brief moment I thought I would get out there and ride the remaining miles (99 of them) by the end of the year. And then I wised up and faced the fact that I don’t ride outside when it’s under 50 degrees…. and it’s now under freezing. Maybe I’ll come up with a plan to ride indoors? That’s not really my thing, but who knows. That goal may still happen. So here’s what down in my world this week…
Mon – 40 min elliptical. A fun start to my week – I went to see Wicked! I actually didn’t know anything about this movie, other than I thought it had something to do with the Wizard of Oz. I’m not an Ariana Grande fan either, but I really enjoyed her performance! I was taken by surprise that this ended with “To be continued”. I’m looking forward to seeing part 2! We enjoyed some martinis after the movie and mine was a S’mores. Does this surprise anyone? It was good. This turned into a late night because my son had arrived home from college and we stayed up too late talking!

Tues – 3 mile run. On this run I completed my 30th book (all audiobooks) of the year. My goal has been accomplished. Things I am enjoying this week? Coffee cake after my run. The very delicious recipe is here.

Weds – 6 mile run. The holidays have officially started at our house. First, putting up the tree. My cats were a great help. Well, at least they haven’t tried climbing the tree yet.

We went to a new bowling alley. The screens were very impressive! My bowling was much less than impressive and I bowled a lot of gutter balls. Look how excited I am when I did get some strikes! Even though we all had low scores it was a lot of fun.

Thurs – 5K run, Thanksgiving Turkey Trot down by the river! We started out our morning with a great group of friends. This has been a tradition for the group for many years now. I’m happy (and shocked) that my kids wanted to join us [although my daughter was a bit grumpy about getting out of bed so early]. The weather was good and the food was yummy.

Shoutout to all of the turkey trotters out there today! I am thankful for all of you! I enjoy hearing all about your fitness goals and life each week. We share the good and the bad 🙂

Our family dinner was at my Mom’s house. We cooked up a big feast. It was odd for my Dad to be missing this year. Today would have been my parent’s 65 wedding anniversary too. I think the day went quite well. It was good to be surrounded by family.

Fri – 40 mins elliptical. Workout and watching TV before the drive back to college with our son. He went back to campus early so he could be at the Ohio Michigan game. Downtown Columbus is all lit up.

Sat – 9 mile run. It was my first really cold day for running. Feels like 8 degrees! But no worries, with the great deals going on at Athleta and my rewards, I also bought another pair of fleece lined tights (Altitude Stash) and they kept me toasty. I didn’t enjoy the snow pelting my eyes, but that didn’t last long. My husband was getting his miles in too! We were both sporting our gear from the Dave’s Running 2024 Spring Training program (I was a 5K coach in the spring). I will return to the program for spring 2025 as a sub coach for the marathon program this time!

After some stretching (Sam helped me!) we watched the Ohio State vs Michigan football game. What the heck happened Buckeyes?? Not a good game. And that fight afterwards? Just awful.

Sun – Rest day! I did go for a walk around the neighborhood. I am in a Strava challenge (a small streak, totally achievable!) and am participating in the annual Joy to the Run program with Another Mother Runner (it’s a free program with a fun online community. Give it a look!) This walk checked off both boxes today!

Q: Has anyone seen Wicked yet? Have you seen the Broadway play?
Omg that photo of the cats with the Christmas decorations… I would make that my Christmas card.
Sounds like a really fun week. I also stayed up way too late talking to my son several times, and it was reflected in my morning workouts (or, lack thereof.)
As soon as you said your son went back early for the game, I thought- THAT game??? I didn’t watch it but I watched lots of other college games yesterday, so I heard all about it. That one was awful, but I did enjoy all the other drama surrounding the end of the regular season for college games.
I love your tree- it’s huge!
Yep, the OH MI game was a disaster. My son told me it was going to be an easy win for OH since they were ranked 2nd. Ooof. And then the fights afterwards? Embarrassing behavior for both teams and so awful to see!
That cat picture was funny – I shook a toy to get Sam’s attention, which made his eyes huge with excitement!
What a beautiful week! I’m so glad you had a nice Thanksgiving surrounded by your loved ones and favorite people.
I have seen the Broadway show, and I’ve read Wicked and Son Of A Witch. I was very much on the fence about seeing the movie, but after seeing all the clips and the reviews, I am so in. I’m debating treating myself to see it one day this week.
I went into that movie totally clueless. I learned there was a book just before I saw it! Seems like the movie plot did have a few differences maybe? Even so, great cinematography and characters. And of course the singing was good too! You should go see it!
It sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving holiday with your family, and yay for the kids joining you in the turkey trot. Those “firsts” after a loved one in gone are tough. 🙁
We saw Wicked at the Kennedy Center in DC several years ago when it was in town. I haven’t seen the movie.![My Profile](https://techchickadventures.com/wp-content/plugins/commentluv/images/littleheartplus.png)
Debbie recently posted…Weekly RunDown: November 24 – 30 / A Trip to the Farm, Thanksgiving, and a Lighter Workout Week
When I woke up my daughter (nicely) at 7am for our turkey trot she said “I don’t want to go!!!!”. LOL But eventually she changed her mind and joined us. She is not a morning person!
Looks like a super fun week of family friends and activity! Happy Thanksgiving to you
It was a nice week! Looking forward to when the kids will be back again for winter break.
Looks like you had a wonderful week of celebrating! I need to get my decorating going.
Congrats on 1400 miles on the bike! I had zero lol. Some years are like that…
My old Athleta fleece tights split in a bad area today, so off I go to check out the sale (again!)
I know a lot of people wear the Rainier tights when it’s cold, but I guess I’m wimpy because the fleece lined Altitude tights have become my go-to pairs if it’s in the 30s. I did get the reflective pair of Rainier tights because I couldn’t resist 🙂
BTW – I had the salted caramel Frosty – yum.
Good for you getting the whole to run on Thanksgiving.
It’s been pretty cold here too… feels like 19.
But I leave for Florida on Wed!!!
I must have another caramel Frosty before they go away, because I’m thinking the peppermint one might come back soon! They are both pretty darn good. Glad you enjoyed it! Have a safe journey to Florida and have fun!!
How nice the entire family was up & trotting on Thanksgiving morning 🙂 That was my goal, for SO many years… but the kids were all no-go’s, LOL (and I just asked them show up and walk the 1-mile route, which was two blocks from the house), I’m glad you had a nice day, both trotting and then dinner with your mom.
