What, it’s Sunday again? This week has been so wonky. My upcoming weeks will feel even a bit more off. Why’s that? It’s time to reveal the “big thing” I mentioned I was celebrating a few weeks ago. In some ways it’s not really a big deal, but it is a big deal! I am going down to working 2 days a week in 2025. Sure, I already only work 3 days a week, but dropping one day means I’ll be working in office both days and having a 5 day weekend every week! I’m not sure how I feel about going into the office on my former remote working day. I did have my routine, which involved sleeping in a bit later on that day and running farther. So I’ll be working on how to rearrange my training plan to fit my new schedule. I am looking forward to having an extra day to hang out with my family and travel! And working out 🙂 This week I ran 28 miles. I also went to the gym several times and did two skiing workouts. Here’s what went down in the new year….
Mon – 4 miles, treadmill. Sam, ever the cutie, waiting for me on the stairs in the dark. Of course the iPhone camera looks amazing in the dark, but trust me, it was super dark on these stairs and I feel like he was waiting to trip me.
Tues – 5 miles easy. Ok, by now the week feels very much out of order and it feels like Friday! But good news, it’s only Tuesday! And tomorrow is a holiday. One more day of work in my home office, and my last one for quite awhile!
Our New Years Eve was pretty low key. We watched a movie (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) and snacked, toasting in the new year.
Weds – Happy New Year! Started my new year out with a visit to the gym. Go me! I even used the Smith Machine again. Later on I went for a walk with Alan. It was quite chilly out!
We watched Ohio State crush Oregon in the Rose Bowl and I made some lasagne. A good night!
Thurs – 5 easy miles. It was a good day – running, climbing, tacos and ping pong! I got to use my new belay glasses. They are handy, but weird to use!
My cats have no manners when it comes to game play.
Fri – 4 easy miles. Yay, snow! It wasn’t much, but it was pretty.
Afterwards it was time for coffee and donuts. But oh so sad, our favorite donut shop was closed for the New Year. We had to go to Dunkin Donuts instead.
Sat – 10 mile long run. It was a COLD one out there! Remember last week’s long run? I was wearing short sleeves! Today? Feels like 8 degrees. So I layered up and all was well. I even wore mittens on top of my gloves. Running tip – Buffs are so versatile for cold weather running! I saw my husband out on his long run too.
Sun – Gym visit (again!). I’m making up for those missing days of gym visits this week 🙂 But the majority of the day was spent driving Zach back to Ohio State. They are expecting some snow this week so that’s a fun start to the school year for them! I will miss him. It’s been so nice having him home!
One fun thing about the new year is seeing yearly stats. A huge decrease in running miles when I was injured, and a huge increase in walking miles when we went to Europe!
Here’s some more interesting recaps… book reading was over my goal of 30 books (all audiobooks!) and we traveled a ton in 2024. Looking forward to many more travels in 2025!!
And finally, what about that back pain I had recently? My sports doctor thought it was related to a glute not firing. That sounds about right! I got an appointment for physical therapy next week, but now I’m waffling. Today (Sunday) the pain not really there! Hmmmmm
Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!
Hope you are having a great start to the new year!
Q: Did you have a goal for reading books, running, or anything else in 2024? How did it go for you?
Congrats on going down to two work days a week! Were you going into the office at all before or was it totally remote?
I can just picture every ping pong ball getting swatted down by one of the kitties and never making it across the net. That must add an entire extra level of difficulty to the game. LOL

I had one remote day and two office days, so really my coworkers probably won’t notice a difference! The positive part about going in to the office is that I can still take my park walks with my mom when the weather is good since it’s close to my office.
Surprisingly the cats pretty much just sit there and watch the balls fly over head. I think the balls are too fast for them to react!

Congrats on your new work schedule… I hope to cut back one day!!
Yes, cats really do have zero manners.
We had one warm day and then the cold returned… still no snow so that’s good.
I really thought the cats would spaz out over the ping pong balls bouncing overhead but it was more like watching birds. Just sitting there watching, delighted!
I’d LOVE a work schedule like yours!!!! My new job (of two months) has not been a very good fit, so I’m contemplating looking for something else (45-hour weeks: not what I was prepared for, ugh!). My Bad, I totally missed the Rose Bowl…the past two weeks have had me in a confused tailspin, LOL!
Oof, sounds like it might be time for a change for you again. Funny story about the Rose Bowl game… we had to find a stream on YouTube since we don’t get any sports channels. We watched the game for almost 20 minutes before we realized we were watching the 2010 game which had the same teams! 😆 😂
Oooh, I love that TripIt recap! So cool! Do you like that app? Find it helpful?
I wanted to read 50 books, but that didn’t go so well. I’m in a new book club and I think that will help.
Looks like you really had a wonderful holiday and I hope your new schedule goes well!
I really like TripIt a lot! I tried a different app when planning Europe and it was overwhelming. I like the simplicity of TripIt!
Sounds like your new work schedule will be ideal. Enjoy your last few days with your kids home! Happy new year
Winter break for Ohio State is far too short! It will take a little bit of adjustment, but I think 2 days a week of work will be good. Especially in the summer! If needed on a project I will pick up another day of work at home occasionally.
How nice to cut down on work days! Sounds like a great setup in life.
Your weather looks like staying-indoors weather to me! We had a major cold snap these days and while nearby areas had some serious snow, we still have green grass and 1C. I’m truly blessed to live here!
I’m surprised it works to keep playing with your cats on the table – I’d expect they’d be everywhere when the ball comes flying.
Enjoy the new year and I hope your back muscles stay quiet. Do some glute work though!
Yes, I do need to make glute strengthening a priority! I’m very happy my back is feeling better. That’s no fun at all!
You do live in a very beautiful place. So green!
Congrats on your decision to cut back to 2 days per week! I work 2.5 days per week, and it’s just enough! My job couldn’t be done remotely, but it’s ok–seeing people helps, lol
I’d do the PT and get the glute in gear! Then you can do everything you learn there at home.
True, I can always use some guided workouts to get me on track and keep me healthy. What did I spend my Christmas money on? Physical therapy. haha!!
Ooh, love the TripIt stats. I think I need to pick that one up. Of course the year after some bonkers international travel. Good luck with the work transition
