I am now on an 18 day streak with my Bend app. It’s got a lot of program choices and I also created a custom “post run” stretch so I can be more mindful of getting it done! My workout schedule was messed up a this week due to a race on Sunday. Rest day on Monday instead of Weds means I have to run quite a few days in a row. Luckily it all turned out well. I ran 32 miles this week.
Mon – Rest day, PT visit. Before we drove our son back to Ohio State I went to a PT visit. After explaining the pain I had from the dry needling last time, and that it didn’t improve things much, it was decided he wouldn’t do that again. So instead he did a lot of manipulation and massaging my muscles. I’m conflicted on this course of action so far. I was hoping something would reduce my “pinching” feeling in my hip more. Although I can say my lower back is feeling almost better, so that’s something.
We made it back home from Columbus in time to watch Ohio State win the National Championship. Woohoo!!! My son had a great time watching the show on campus. It was a crazy night there!

Tues – 5 miles, with 4 miles of fartleks, 2 mins on / 1 min off. Oof, I am feeling pretty sore from my PT session yesterday. He worked on my hamstrings pretty hard. I also did my stretches, PT exercises and my skiing workout. I took a walk after work, and brrrrr it was really cold out!

Weds – 4 miles, treadmill. We had an early meeting at work this morning which was actually fun. They gave us sweets and drinks (nope, just orange juice not a mimosa!!).

Thurs – 6 miles, treadmill. Ideally this would have been outside, but I just wasn’t sure the road or trail conditions. My street hadn’t been plowed yet and I didn’t want to risk a fall. 4 middle miles on this run was at marathon pace.

I filled my Mom’s calendar with all sorts of fun events this week. Today’s trip out of the house took us to the casino! We didn’t win anything but we had fun.

Fri – 5 miles. I made it outside! That is all 🙂

And oh yeah, a gym visit!

Today’s fun activity – we saw a show at the University Planetarium. We learned all about neutrinos. No, I still don’t fully understand what neutrinos are, but they are looking for them in Antarctica. These shows are always interesting!

Sat – 12 miles, long run. My training plan did call for only a 10 miles long run this week, but due to my upcoming travel plans I’m not sure what running will happen. Better to get this done now! I don’t have photographic proof, but I did run into every training group out on their run today so it was a quite a social run for me! My husband was a sweetie and brought home a Starbucks for me.

Sun – Rest day! I did stretch and did a core workout. And, I finally took down our outside Christmas lights! Most importantly, it’s my Mom’s 85th birthday today!

So what’s going on with my back and pinchy leg situation? I was supposed to have another PT visit on Monday (coming up), but things just don’t seem to be progressing as I’d hoped. We are heading out for a ski trip soon so I’ll just wait until I we return to continue with those appointments (or heck, maybe I won’t need them!). The time off from running might just settle things down (wishful thinking!).
Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!
Q: Casino fans… what games would you play?
We stuck with the slot machines. It’s shocking how fast. you can lose your money! 😆
Happy birthday to your mom! She looks great. Sorry you are still having that nagging hip pain. Hope you get some relief soon. Have so much fun skiing!
Thanks, I am really looking forward to our ski trip!
Happy birthday to your mom!
I’m sorry to hear you still have hip pain. I hope it settles down, hips can be so troublesome. But skiing is a lot about hip work, isn’t it?
No casino for me. But I could visit your gym!
Oh yes, skiing works the whole leg! I do think my skiing workouts will help out. They are challenging!
Happy Birthday to your mom! She’s 85? Sounds like she’s doing great.
Dry needling didn’t help my calf injury last summer, but then I had several ART sessions and it went away. Obviously my problem isn’t the same as yours- I guess I’m just saying dry needling doesn’t work for everything. Maybe just taking some time off and skiing will resolve the situation? Fingers crossed.
Great job on the Christmas lights. Mine are still up (just to clarify- I have NOT been turning them on.) My goal is to get them down by February 1st : )
I’m glad we both decided that more dry needling wasn’t needed because that was not pleasant! I’m a bit suspicious though because it seemed to anger another part of my leg. Ugh.
HB to your mom… Sorry to hear about your hip pain but it seems that you are still getting all your runs done.
I’m not a gambler. After a few slots, I’d be done and poorer.
Most of the slot machines don’t even have the pull arm anymore so you’re just pushing a button to get the spin, and watch your money disappear! What a rip off!
Awh, Happy Birthday to your mom! I’m not much of a casino gal, but I know a little about Black Jack (emphasis on “little”). I hope you get some relief from those aches!
If I could add faster it would be fun to play black jack. At least that game seems like it’s not all luck! But lack of use has left my basic math skills pretty rusty, just like my handwriting these days. It’s embarrassing!
I’m sorry to hear you’re still battling the pain! Running injuries are so annoying–they don’t get better because we just keep running on them lol. Hopefully, the PT will help as you keep going.
Happy Birthday to your mom! She looks great!
I’m starting to wonder if the tight back situation is just my new reality! Sigh. I really thought it would be an easy fix for a physical therapist but nope, not yet. And same about the pinchy feeling in my hip. Blah!
Happy birthday to your mum!
Thank you! It was fun to celebrate her this week 🙂
What a great birthday week for your mom! I hope she had a nice birthday, those firsts are so hard.
Have fun on your upcoming ski trip. Maybe a little time off will be the magic cure for your back/leg issue.
Debbie recently posted…Weekly RunDown: January 19 – 25 / Change is Good
My Mom did have fun hanging out with us this week. Sometimes it’s challenging to figure out something to do together in the cold weather. I wish there was a movie out in the theaters that we would both like to see!
