Looking back at my week, it was filled with sports! Which is funny, because we aren’t really the biggest “sports” people, but when we get free tickets I am all in! This is a wrap on week 7 of my 18 week training plan for the Glass City Marathon. With a lull in running over the past few weeks, I am back at it in full force. I ran 41 miles this week. It went surprisingly well too! Oh, I still have some lingering aches but I’m starting to think that’s just the new me. My knee went from being a bit angry while skiing to being happy again while running.
Mon – 10 miles. Since I’ve missed the last 2 weeks of long runs due to my ski trip I wanted to run a little longer today. The trail was icy, but snow covered or melted in a lot of spots so I just needed to be careful. I saw a cute deer along our multipurpose trail, which is a rarity!

Tues – 5 miles, treadmill. It’s another cold day out there, so my pre-work run stayed indoors on the treadmill. It was sunny outside though, so I did go outside for a walk after work. Geared up in my ski pants, the cold temps were no issue! The ice on the ground was another story, but I walked carefully.

Weds – Rest day! We did go to a basketball game at the University of Toledo. It was a really great game, super high energy. Always fun when our daughter can join us.

Thurs – 7 miles, treadmill. This was my speedwork for the week, a ladder workout. Based on time intervals on, the workout was 2*2*3*3*4*4*3*3*2*2 mins with 1 min off. Did you catch that? Yep, it was fun to program that in my Garmin. I opted for the treadmill again because it was cold and messy looking outside.

Fri – 4 easy miles. Despite the cold temps, it really didn’t feel too bad out there. And, it was time for my hair appointment! Fresh new blond feeling again.

Sat – 15 mile long run. Not going to lie, I was very nervous about this run! A sub coaching opportunity opened up for today, and the goal pace was 9:45. I purposely have been running my long runs at 10:15 pace to keep it slow, so it’s been awhile since I’ve run this pace. And, it’s been weeks since I’ve run far due to our ski trip! And what if I end up running with a few people who don’t talk much – I’d have to carry the conversation! Or what if I get into a tight knit group and I feel like an outsider?? So many run “dynamics” to think about! Regardless, I decided this would be a good opportunity to get back on track with my training plan. And guess what? I had no problem keeping the pace! In fact, I ended up running with a few friends and we averaged 9:30 for the majority of the run! If it would have been a larger group we would have slowed down, but my friends only wanted some company, so I ran their pace. We did have to run a few miles on snow covered trails which slowed me down but luckily it wasn’t slippery.

My husband’s run went well also! Yay! Can you tell who got back to the car first? haha!

I was so excited about this run that I ate everything in sight. Burgers and fries with my mom, a pie from Crumbl Cookies and later a beer, hot dog and fries. Just a slight pause in the regularly scheduled plan 🙂

Sun – Rest day!! I have been working very hard to get another “December Daily” scrapbook finished because a sale on them is ending today. Lots of computer time!! I recently finished books from 2015, 2018 and 2020. It’s a lot of work, but fun memories watching my kids grow up in these pages. We also went to a Toledo Walleye hockey game. I’m not the biggest fan of hockey, but I won these tickets, so why not! Sadly the Walleye lost tonight.

Q: Do you ever go to hockey games?
Nice that you got a “Wendy-style” run, with deer!
I can totally relate to the run dynamics – I’d be nervous about that too. Well done keeping the higher pace! And I’m glad your knee is feeling better.
I was quite relieved to have the long run go so well. Running with my friends was the best situation (and so unexpected!)
I love ladder workouts, and I have a similar one that I programmed into my Garmin. It took forever! The first time I messed up and didn’t change one of the intervals from distance to time, so when I thought “huh this two minute interval is taking forever” it really was!
I don’t really run anymore except for short run/walks, and I always say that I don’t miss it…however I do miss the big dinners on long run days! Food just never tastes as delicious as it does after a long run.
Oh yes, I do love the fueling part of a running lifestyle!! That’s funny about the Garmin programming mistake. I’ve done that before!
What a fun and busy week for you!
I used to love going to hockey games when I was in South Florida. And we used to go more up here (we have a minor league team), but the fans have been pretty awful lately, and so I don’t like going. I’m with you, though. If I get the free tickets, I’ll check it out!
Great job on that long run too! All that food looked like perfect recovery fuel!
The hockey game was pretty rowdy!! I preferred the basketball game vibe. The peanut butter pie was my favorite food of the weekend for sure 🙂
That was a busy “sporty” week, and looks like it was a lot of fun! Nice job on that 15-miler! I’m not really a fan of hockey, but I have never been to a game. I bet the games (matches?) are more exciting in person than n TV.
Well, we stayed for the first two periods of the game (there are three) and then we left! Hockey fans are pretty loyal though so there was a lot of energy which was fun to see.
I went to an ice hockey game in London once – it was very exciting and I was looking forward to them having a fight: which they did!
Hair looks gorgeous! Well done on the long run, looks like a fun one!
