Hello! Wrapping up a full week of training and there are 13 more weeks until the Columbus Marathon. Looking back at my recap I can barely believe I did all of these things this week. It was a whirlwind of fun stuff. I tried to pack it all in, and I think I did a pretty good job. I did run 32 miles and biked 75 miles. Here’s what went down…
Mon – 7 miles, speed workout. This was a tough one because I woke up from a drug induced coma. Well, ok, it was a drug induced deep sleep. Rewind to Sunday when I got bit by a deer fly and had a swollen toe. I decided to take two Benadryl to combat the itchiness. In the past I’ve gotten very sleepy from two pills, but I decided to give it a try again. At 5pm on Sunday I took the pills. By 8:30pm I was a zombie and had to go to sleep. No worries, I set my alarm for 5:30am and figured I’d be totally refreshed from all of the sleep! NOPE. I was groggy and had to turn my alarm until 6am when I forced myself to get up. Luckily the grogginess didn’t hang around because we spent the day at Cedar Point! So fun. It was hot so we went on a water ride, which we haven’t done in years. It was refreshing walking around in wet clothes for hours 🙂 A fun day!

We also saw a good musical show. Always great to get out of the heat watching a show.

Tues – 4 easy miles. Feeling a bit better this morning, getting my miles done! And yahoo, we picked Sydney and her boyfriend up at the airport (Cleveland airport – shoutout to Melissa!). They had a great time in Europe.

Weds – Rest day! Sam went to the vet. It has been confirmed, he’s a big boy LOL. But he’s healthy and happy, it’s all good.

Thurs – 6 miles, intervals. I thought it was time to try out a track workout. They’ve been on my schedule and I’ve just been ignoring the paces, so today I tackled 4 x 800m and 4 x 400m. It went well! I’m happy enough with the paces and my body doesn’t seem to be wrecked afterwards. That’s a win!

40 mile bike ride. I have a 63 mile ride coming up soon (metric century!) so I need to get some longer rides in. Luckily, with a commute to and from the group ride we easily got 40 miles. This ride was good. Lower temps meant faster speed. We rode 26 miles with the group with an average of 18.3 mph! That is the speed we’ll be doing on the metric century ride, so it’s good to get practice in a similar environment.

Fri – It was a crazy busy day. And it started with… a 12 miles, long run. I made a rash decision to just knock out my long run today instead of Saturday. Why not? The temps were lower (hello 66 degrees!) and it was cloudy. Perfect! It did end up being a bit boring, but I got it done.

Next, mini golf with my Mom! I swear the golf course was rigged. No one got a hole in one and I did really bad. But, we had fun 🙂

Then, my family went bowling! My bowling skills weren’t much better than my mini golf, but I did get one strike and once again, it was fun!

We went out for tacos and then my kids suggested we play tennis before we went out for ice cream. Sure, why not! We played for around 30 mins and we totally sucked. Next time we’ll try pickleball because maybe we’ll be better at that! Ending the day with some ice cream was a nice treat.

Sat – 3 easy miles. I woke up feeling a little achy, but everything felt fine after I got moving. Running done for the week! Random – take a look at my pot of flowers. Every time I look at it there are fewer flowers in it! The chipmunks (or squirrels) are ruining it! Rude.

In the afternoon we went to a local pump track. It’s been quite awhile since I’ve been here. Zach had fun. We had a time trial around the track. Zach got 28 seconds, I did it in 38 seconds, and Alan came in at 40 seconds. (haha, sorry Alan!)

We rode around for a bit on the pump track and then Alan and I rode on the rail-to-trail next to the track. I definitely want to go back and ride the trail again with my road bike. It was nice! And oh, did I mention there was a skunk on the trail! OMG, so cute!!!

Sun – 30 mile bike ride is on tap for today.
Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!
I’ll finish up with a kitten update. The 3 fosters are still at our house. We’ll have them for another week! They are cute, but still a little skittish. The tabby was sick and has a bit of catching up to do in terms of weight gain. The fur on the black kittens is so interesting. They have some furry black hair, and some white extra long hair. Kinda like little lions!

Q: Does Benadryl make you sleepy?

You had a full week! Benadryl leaves me groggy too. Glad you were able to shake it off.
That’s a great photo of your daughter at the Eiffel Tower!
My daughter had a great trip. This was her boyfriend’s first time out of the country and all went well. I would say it’s a trip of the lifetime but I know she has the travel bug like me so I’m sure she has a lifetime of wonderful trips in front of her!
Ooh I wonder if my mom would like mini golf-maybe when it cools down…Way to keep busy in this humidity and get all your workouts in
It was finally a good day to go golfing. Cloudy and lower temps. I can’t believe how bad we played! So many shots went super close to the hole and then just rolled past. Ugh! We had fun though, so that’s what mattered.
You did a lot this week! I love how you did a long run, played mini golf, went bowling, and played tennis all on the same day. “Sedentary” will never be a word that describes you!
Omg the kittens.. and the skunk! Something that has such a terrible smell shouldn’t be that cute.
Glad your daughter is back- it must be nice to have the whole family together again.
I’m not sure how the kids decided playing tennis would be on the agenda, but the movement felt good after all of the chips and that margarita! It was a busy, busy day.
That little skunk did start to fluff up his tail, but luckily he didn’t turn around. I doubt we could have got away fast enough on our bikes!
Oh wow, you did have a busy week and it sounds like it was a fun one as well. The pump track looks fun, but I might be a little intimidated on some parts. I’ve discovered I’ve gotten much more cautious as I get older.
Glad your daughter and her boyfriend had a great trip!
To answer your question, I haven’t taken Benadryl in so long that I can’t remember if it makes me drowsy. However, I took a nighttime Advil once and it was so difficult for me to get awake the following morning. I hated the way I felt so I threw the bottle away.
I was shocked that I still felt groggy in the morning after the Benadryl. I thought for sure I would be wide away and refreshed after sleeping so long! My mom took some recently and told me it didn’t bother her, so I figured I’d try 2 pills again. Nope, never again!
Holy moley, girl, busy week for you. Funny you should mention deerflies, because that is the theme of my post today. Trying to avoid getting bitten.
I love mini-golfing and bowling, but I am bad at both. I need to round up the kids to do these things!
Ugh on the deer fly! My toe swelled up and looked like a sausage. It was awful and itched so bad. The Benadryl did fix that problem, so I guess that was good, but it was a high price to pay for the relief.
Mini golf sounds fun! It’s been a few years, so I doubt I’d do very well. I haven’t bowled in a couple years, either. I’m not a super star, but do alright (I had a 143 average at one time, and have had a few 200+ games). That was a busy week…great miles on foot and on wheels 😉
I consider you a super star bowler! My score was 81, and the winner got 88 😆🤣 Maybe with some practice we’d be better? Haha
Such a busy week! Holy moly!
I hope you are feeling better after your bite! That sounds super uncomfortable!
Sam is so adorable and the fosters are super cute! They must be so fun!
I love that you got to spend so much time with your family! Your mom is adorable! Mini golf is one of my faves, and I would have been sad not to get a hole in one.
Great job getting in your long run. Sometimes it just works out like that.
You definitely had a fun and busy week! I ran a BQ at the Columbus Marathon a billion years ago. Can’t believe how quickly the fall races are sneaking up. Those water rides feel so good on a very hot day! There was preposterously difficult mini golf on our Rhine River boat. What is up with that?? Love that you got your mom out there!
Umm is the shout out to ME in this post about Cleveland airport? Because I gasped when I saw it lol. What a fun week you had! We went mini golfing a few weeks ago when my parents were in town and had a lot of fun but it was HOT! I forgot how much fun it can be, but it can also take a while with 3 little ones. My kids also love playing tennis and pickleball so it sounds like that day woudl be right up our alley. I’ve never seen a pump track before – but it sounds fun and interesting. congrats on coming in 2nd wiht your time 🙂
Yes, hello Cleveland Melissa! 🙂 Thankfully pickup at CLE was easy. The pump track time for me was a surprise because we all thought I’d come in last place. Guess I shouldn’t doubt myself! There is a pump track in Cleveland-Cliffs Metroparks. We’ve been there once. Pretty cool place!
