This week was a recovery week following the Churchill’s Half Marathon last Saturday. If you missed it, here’s the recap! Everything was feeling fine post race, but as the week went on I started noticing some knee pain. Since my racing calendar has absolutely nothing on it, I kept it low key! Totals this week – running 13.1 miles (how ironic!) and 9.08 miles of hiking.
Mon – 4 miles, treadmill. I got a sweet note from my husband this morning. He is the absolute best and loves me so much!! (NOTE: he hijacked my post and wrote that, but it is true 😊) I’ve been in super planning mode lately and I feel like things are coming together. I can’t wait for ski season!

Tues – Veteran’s Day, thank you for your service! 6 miles running Brrr, it was a cold one! The snow is still hanging around.

When I went to the gym today I forgot to change my shoes! I slipped on these “fashion” shoes while doing chores in my house and didn’t realize I left them on until I walked into the gym. Doh!

Weds – 40 mins elliptical before work. After work – guess what? We’re camping again! We had to take one more camping trip before the camper goes into winter storage. This is a week later than we usually camp in the season, but we had a great weather forecast. There were some technical difficulties when we arrived and couldn’t get the furnace working. It was only 47 degrees in the camper! A bit stressful for Alan as he tried everything to make it work. Turns out the propane tank valve needed a few taps from a wrench and things started working again. Phew!

As you probably saw on social media, the Northern Lights were visible to a lot of states. Sure enough we were lucky enough to see them from the campground. The trees didn’t help, but the lack of light pollution sure did. So pretty!!

Thurs – 2.5 mile hike. The fall colors are popping! Well, they are also disappearing due to the cold weather we have had. The power was actually out at this park earlier in the week when they got a lot of snow! It was fun to see a bunch of swans swimming in the lake.

We had a chill afternoon hanging out in the camper. The cats enjoyed the sunshine.

At night Sydney was able to join us (but not Zach, he was busy). It was good to have her there!

Fri – 3 mile run. I ran over to the toboggan track at the park. The toboggan run opens right after Thanksgiving and is refrigerated, so even if there is no snow it is working! We talk about going again every year. Hopefully this will be the year we get there.

We went for a hike to Hell’s Point. It has a lot of stairs and my knee was complaining a bit about it. My knee has been a bit angry going up hills and stairs this past week. Boo! We found a patch of snow still hanging around.

Sat – 4 mile hike. It was a gorgeous day for a hike! 67 degrees! We could have worn shorts! It was also time to pack up and head back home. This was a great way to end our camping season. We’ve already talked about places to camp next year.

We made it back home in time to do a lot of yard work within the last few hours of daylight. Phew, tiring, but much needed.
Sun – I debated joining some friends on a trail run, but my janky knee pain reminds me that I need to pass on that invite. So, time for some cross training in the form of housework and a walk around the neighborhood most likely instead. Oh well, gotta listen to my body.

Q: Did you get to see the Northern Lights this week?
I really hoped we would see them again on Friday night because Sydney really wanted to see them, but it didn’t happen.
Q: Do you enjoy travel planning?
I do!!

Yay for seeing the northern lights! We did not catch them here on the east coast but that gives me an excuse to go to Iceland sometime to catch them! Glad you got in your last camping trip of the year seems like perfect timing. Hope your knee feels better with some downtime
Iceland Air was offering some great airfare to fly from Detroit to Iceland. Unfortunately it was during the really wet/cold time, so I passed on it. Now I see that Iceland Air is stopping their flights from Detroit. I missed out! It would be really amazing to see the Aurora from Iceland.
What a fun week outside! I agree it’s getting too cold here. Your husband is so sweet, I love the note! How cool to see the Northern Lights when you were in the middle of nature!
It was a crazy roller coaster of temperatures in Ohio this week! The snow can stay away for a bit, maybe come back right after Thanksgiving. There are so many leaves to deal with right now!
This does sound like a fun camping trip! I love that the cats go along. I have to admit that at first I was dubious about taking cats camping, but it’s a good idea. I’m sure they’re happier being with you than being home alone.
It’s always something, right??? I hope the knee feels better soon. It’s the perfect time for some cross training since you have no big races coming up.
Um, is that last photo YOUR YARD??? If it is, you really did have a lot of work to do- that’s a lot of leaves!!!
Oh no, that was a picture from the campground! However, there are a lot of large trees just beyond the fence in our yard and they drop a lot of leaves. Maybe one corner of our yard looks like that, but thankfully not all of it!
Taking the cats camping works out in a few ways – 1) we don’t have to hire someone to take care of them at home, 2) they won’t get lonely, 3) they get to enjoy looking at the woodland creatures! We didn’t give them any drugs for this trip since it was only a 90 min trip. Sam meowed quite a bit on the way there so I sat next to him on the trip back. He seemed to like that better and was quieter.
Our yards, both in my previous town as well as when we lived in Michigan, were SO MUCH work in the fall! Big oak trees (and some maples) that were shedding leaves non-stop, practically until the New Year. Now, I have nothing other than pruning and cleaning-up the small flower garden I put in over the summer. I actually kind of miss the leaves, though…
Gosh, I hope it’s nothing serious with your knee!
Our yard is clear of large trees, which was needed for our pool, but we do have large mature trees just beyond our fence. They do make a lot of work! Mostly just annoying when they get into our rock landscaping.
That’s such a sweet note from your husband! And how funny that he hijacked your post! But of course he’s right because all your travels and camping trips look fabulous. I think the trees made those photos good because they created some contrast and added more of a subject than just the aurora.
I hope your knee feels better soon!
That is why they say you should always lock your computer. haha!! What a prankster he is.
I agree, the trees do make the Lights look even better! I did see a picture of the lakeshore near the area I was at. The full range of Northern Lights they captured was pretty cool. A memorable moment either way!
Somehow I missed the memo on the northern lights, lol. I would use the excuse that it’s too bright here (it is), but everyone could see them despite the ‘light pollution’. It’s so amazing, isn’t it?
You sure made the most of your camper this year! Now it’s time to plan your ski trips, right?
I missed northern lights here… boo!
What a year of camping!!
Hope your knee pain is nothing serious… probably smart to skip a run.
Your northern lights pictures are so pretty. I looked, but we weren’t able to see them in our part of Virginia.
Funny you should ask about travel planning! My husband does 100% of the planning for our trips (and the driving, too). As a result, I’m constantly asking what’s on the agenda each day.
Aw, how sad to see the season go! There’s always next year!
People did see the northern lights here, but I wasn’t among them. I’m sure they were gorgeous!
So glad you got the furnace working! That’s cold!
It sure was cold in the camper at first! Thankfully Alan understands how it all works. The best I can do is bring extra blankets 😉
That is funny because when my husband asks me what is on the agenda I always feel like he should know and I get a little irked 😂 I need to be better about that.
I love your bike trips. One of these days I’m going to do one!
How wonderful to see the Northern Lights! We had them visible here but I didn’t see them – I have seen faint ones in Iceland a few years ago (crikey, 8 years ago!). Hope the knee feels better soon!
My knee is improving! It is pretty cool that we are north enough to have had Lights sightings. I guess it’s really not a good thing (something not great happening in the environment?) but it is so pretty!
LOL on your husband’s contribution to this post. His note was very sweet — and he knew where to leave it too!
Nice to get one more camping trip in. I hope you knee is calming down.
I didn’t see any Northern Lights but my daughter got amazing photos in Colorado.
