My training calendar is full again… well, ok, it has some entries in it. I decided to put the beginning of a half marathon training plan into my calendar so I had a purpose in my running until the marathon relay on April 26th (I’m running the 5.8 mile leg in the 5 person relay). Nothing too challenging, just something to allow me the satisfaction of checking off the boxes each day. This was a long week for me because I worked *every* day. Yes, *every* day! I usually only work 2 days a week but I covered since my coworker is out of office. Gotta say, I am NOT a fan of working full time again! I was bored on Monday but by the end of the day on Friday I was working until 6pm. Busy, busy, busy! I ran 23 miles this week, took walks on several days, and went to gym. Here’s what went down….
Sun – I traveled to Columbus OH and we saw our son. It was 85 degrees!!! I was not prepared since it was only 58 degrees back at my house. I should have worn shorts. Speaking of which, his ski tan is looking fine LOL!

Mon – 4 miles treadmill run. A 3 mile run plus strides. This small amount of speedwork challenged me! In a good way 🙂 I think of Switzerland every time I use my mug, with a Stroopwafel of course.

I also went to the gym and DID NOT ruin my legs for days again like last week. Winning! I matched the Planet Fitness color scheme.

Tues – Unscheduled reset day from running. Day 2 on my training plan and have to make a deviation! Not a big deal though, since I really don’t need the training plan for my marathon relay leg. Last night I noticed my foot was feeling odd and my baby toe was sore. This morning the poor little toe was really bruised and swollen! I don’t even remember what I did to it, but I must have caught it on something. No running for me this morning. I went for a park walk at lunchtime. Brrrrr

Weds – 2.25 mile park walk with Mom. Park walk season has begun! My lunch hour park walks with my Mom will be happening more frequently as the weather gets warmer. It’s always nice to spend that time with her.

Thurs – 4.25 miles running. It was 52 degrees when I woke up. Heck yeah!! I caught the sunrise too. It was a great way to start the day. The high temperature was 72 and I got to enjoy a walk with my friend after work. A great way to end the day too!

Fri – 3 easy miles. I don’t like my Glycerin Max shoes as much as I’d hoped, but they are decent enough for short runs. But hey, they do match my outfit 🙂 I have decided to just embrace the early wakeup hour of my husband and I got outside to run. I’ve mentioned this before but my husband meets a friend at 5:30am a few times a week, which is great, but I think they are crazy because they are retired and don’t need to run THAT early. Why not at 6:30?? I got my run, stretching, PT and abs workout all done before I had to work, so that was the silver lining. Yay!

Sat – 8 mile long run. Remember when I used to bust out an 8+ mile run on a random week day? Phew, this is my long distance now! I also got a bonus .6 miles walk back to my car (I wasn’t going to run farther than 8 miles, so I stopped then). I ran along the river so I could see the fishermen. The Walleye run is happening! I didn’t actually see any fish but I assume they were catching them.

I also stopped by Starbucks, because, cheers on that “long run”!

Extra bonus steps… walking to the ice cream shop. First visit of the season!

Sun – we get to see the Walleye again… at a Toledo Walleye hockey game! I’m not a hockey fan, but this is a work event with a suite and dinner included. I’m a fan of that!
Fun pic of the week…. it’s Sam, trying to get up close and sneaky with the birds. Gotta love his ingenuity!

Q: Have you had a Stroopwafel?
The fresh one we had in Amsterdam was amazing!!
Q: If you didn’t have anything on your calendar, what time would you go out for a run?
6:30 is a good time, am I right?? 😉

I used to be an early runner no matter what, but I am embracing the snooze button lately. 6:30 is a good time to head out — especially if it’s just getting light then.
It’s tough in the winter to get up early but for the rest of the year there is some satisfaction on seeing the sunrise! But I will always vote for a 6:30am meetup over 5:30am any time of the year!
Ooh I do love those stroopwaffels! Ouch on your baby toe-hope that resolves itself soon. Enjoy hte warmer weather. Soon we will complain about it too 🙂
My toe is getting better but still a bit sore when it moves. Thankfully it doesn’t hurt to run or walk or bike. I’m surprised it’s still sore after a week though!
Oh, your poor little toe! Does it hurt much?
I agree, 6:30 sounds like a good time to go out for a run, but earlier is okay, too, since I get up on weekdays at 5 AM. The only stroopwafel I’ve tried was by Honey Stinger. I’m sure the fresh ones you got in Switzerland were much better!
I love the picture of sneaky Sam. 🙂
The fresh stroopwaffel was 100 times better than the packaged ones, and I like the packaged ones!
The toe only hurts when I move it, which doesn’t really happen much. It’s still a little bit swollen and sore. So odd!
ABSOLUTELY. If there’s no reason I have to, I refuse to get up before 6 am. Well… to each his own (I think they’re insane though).
That’s crazy your toe was so bruised and you don’t even remember what you did to it!!! Well, glad it’s okay. And- it’s all relative. I’ve had times- and I’ll be there again- where eight miles is a long run. Definitely deserving of a Starbucks!
Hopefully there isn’t some other reason my toe is bruised other than smacking it into anything (like a shoe issue). It’s still a little sore when I move it around but thankfully that toe doesn’t do a whole lot in the grand scheme of movement and running!
You know me, I’m always up at 430 for my runs! If we dont have any early activities, sleeping in until 630 or 7 would be perfect.
A long run for me is anywhere between 7-10 so 8 definitely counts! Nice job!
I do know you are in that super early bird group! Which totally makes sense for your schedule and family. You must be super stealthy and not wake your husband up… which is all I’m asking for! 🙂 What time do you go to bed usually?
Yeah, I’ve been trying for ohhhh….like a decade to get them to switch the time but it will never happen.
Well, I’m an early bird, so 5:30AM runs are not a big deal for me. I especially love those early mornings in the summer, though. I’m so used to being awake and moving, I figure I might as well be fitness’ing, LOL.
I think it’s losing battle with my complaints on the early meetup time. I did suggest Alan sleep in another room when he has to wake up so early, but we came up with a different plan to make less noise as he gets ready. I’m willing to work on it 😉
SAM! I love that photo so much!
And yay for the first of many ice cream shop visits! Yum!
In Florida, we have to be up and out at 5:30 or earlier. Once that sun comes up… it’s all over. Even when retired, I can’t see the point of sleeping in.
Glad you had a wonderful week and training is coming back into play!
Sam does keep us all smiling with his silliness!
That heat in Florida is a very valid reason for an extra early meet up time! I am always suspicious if my husband’s friend just goes home and goes back to bed after they run since it’s so early LOL
Back at it! Yes, 8 miles is my ‘long run’ now. Funny how things have changed… and I think 6:30 is the perfect time for a morning run!
I have had Stroopwaffles–on United Airlines, I think–or was it Delta? They are sweet, but oh so good. I can only imagine how a fresh one tastes.
Have a great week!
I do get a good laugh out of my Facebook memories of when I would bust out 20 miles under 9 mins and things like that. I’m glad I documented that stuff!
Oh yes, warm stroopwaffels with syrup inside are amazing!!
I’m an early riser but then I dawdle with coffee and breakfast. I need to meet someone to get out there.
I just ran a half marathon and then yesterday 2 miles felt hard… LOL
I do pride myself on getting out the door pretty quick after I wake up. I usually only eat fig newtons for fuel and don’t have coffee before my run. I would easily lose my momentum if I lingered too long!
