For a final ski trip of the season we went to Switzerland.  It was our first time there.  It was our 2nd time to Europe so we feel like seasoned pros now! šŸ˜„  Our first destination was to our ski condo, slopeside in Nendaz.  We were using the Epic Pass and Verbier 4 Vallees was the largest European resort on the pass so I figured it would offer the most variety of skiing conditions.  We went in early March, 2026.  It wasn’t busy at all.  A good time of year for skiing! There are several small towns that you could use as a base camp for skiing in this area. I think Nendaz was a great choice! We spent 7 nights there.

Drone shot thanks to my husband. Our building is in the middle of this picture with the parking lot behind it.

Nedaz at night was just as pretty!

We flew into Geneva and rented a car.  Switzerland does have a great train system but for flexibility we rented a car.  It was a small SUV but perfect for our luggage and easy to drive.  We also brought our own ski equipment with us.  If you have a car, you’ve got a place to store your skis while you travel!  There was only a short period of time when we had to lug our skis around so it wasn’t inconvenient at all.  The car rental was at the airport, no shuttle bus needed. We put Airtags in the ski bags for extra assurance.

Nendaz is a cute little town up in the mountains, exactly what I thought a Swiss ski village would look like!  Everything was very convenient – grocery stores, restaurants and ski shops.  I’m not sure how it rates in ā€œnightlifeā€ because after skiing our primary objective is dinner then the couch!  Nothing better than relaxing after a day on the slopes. We burned some more calories hiking up the hill to our apartment. The slope to our building provided quite a workout! I liked that Nendaz was not over touristy. No chain restaurants and not too many souvenir shops. Very traditional.

Our condo was quite basic, and I’ll admit I thought it was FAR too basic when we arrived, but I blame jetlag on my depressed condition. And, the tablecloth was a bit lackluster.  However, this condo was exactly what it needed to be without feeling cluttered.  We were able to make breakfast every morning and cook dinner a few times.  The couch was comfy šŸ™‚

The view from our balcony was amazing!  We could ski down to the gondola.  Perfect!

We walked around the town and took in the beautiful scenery.  Ahhhhhh, the Alps!!!

Here are some things we found interesting/different in Switzerland:

The winding roads!  Yes, I know they are common in many countries, but we do not have them where I live!  Two cars could barely pass each other.  It was quite a test of Alan’s driving skills.

Doors that lock from the inside.  Wait, what?  We need a key to lock ourselves in?  I had some safety concerns about this one.  What happens if you can’t find the key and the room is on fire?  Yikes. The square light buttons (not switches) were also unique.

Doors that open inward from the top.  We noticed the windows and doors were such super high quality on both of our trips to Europe.  Very interesting that you can crack them open from the top.  Once again, quite common in Europe but we have to use window screens in Ohio to keep out the bugs, so that is new to us!

Folding bunk beds.  GREAT idea!  Not sure if they were comfy or easy to use, but very cool that they folded up when not in use.

Short beds (close to the ground) and individual duvets.  Duvets are dreamy!  I should get one. Individual bedding is an interesting concept. Oh, and the lack of top sheets.  Thankfully the bed was super comfy!

Also interesting, the lack of washcloths in Europe.  I will never get used to that one and will carry a cheap one with me on my next trip.

I loved how the gas stations had a large array of healthy and very good food available.    It wasn’t always convenient that the grocery store closed at 7pm, but gas stations were a great alternative.

Overall I highly recommend this location! I’m sure it would be super beautiful in the summer too.

Here are the trip topics I will be writing about soon:
