We watched the Kids Baking Challenge last night and it actually inspired my kids to help out in the kitchen!  I think it was an eye opener for them to see kids their own age preparing food and whipping up meals.  That led me to recruit them to help put our dinner together which was beef stew.  There were lots of veggies to cut up and ingredients to measure.  We only had one “incident”, which was a bloody finger.  It’s not as bad as you think because the knife was so sharp, my son didn’t even notice he had cut himself and was bleeding!  That’s the joy of good, sharp knives I told him 🙂

Today was rest day, but since I was stiff and sore I decided I needed to do some stretching.  That’s where my idea for a yoga session came in.  Well, that, and my blogger buddy KiwiYogiRunner talks about it’s greatness on a daily basis, AND she recommended a 15 minute yoga video which looked like the perfect amount of time for me.  I decided this morning one was the video for us today.

Funny thing about doing yoga with kids… they talk the whole time!  This is how it went…

Zack:  wow, how does she do that?

Sydney: uggh, I can’t stretch like that.

Z: is it OK if I fall over?

Z: how much more time do we have left?

Me: Shhh, what did she say?  What are we doing – another downward dog??

S: I don’t think this is right.

Z: I did half of it.  Does that count?  I’m not doing anymore.

Yep, that’s how it went down.  It was a great help for my sore legs though.

Then the girls busted out their headstands.  Sydney nailed hers.

I totally sucked on mine and fell over in one second. But that is not surprising looking at the positions of my arms.  uggh.  It’s clear I have to start practicing mine again.

Even though it’s Pi day π, we baked a cake.  Baking a cake is pretty unusual in our house unless it’s a birthday, but the cooking show also inspired Sydney to bake that Cake Boss cake we picked up as a super deal.  She did the whole thing herself.  Pretty impressive!

We have some extra luck coming our way today because our egg had a double yoke.  I’ll take it!

Q: Do you prefer cake or pie?

A: Hands down, cake!!

Q: What type of additional exercises do you do on a rest day, or do you just rest!?

  1. Sooooo exciting that you tried this!! And I love that you did it with your kids! Their conversation made me laugh so much, i can just imagine! I am personally not opposed to talking during yoga, I have been known to have a full on conversation with my parents/bf mid downward dog- of course you can have more of a meditative practice if it’s super peaceful etc but sometimes if you wait for that type of experience it’s never going to happen! Plus talking to the people we love during yoga seems kindof awesome to me, it means we are surrounded by love and if it creeps in to the practice then that’s great 🙂

    1. So true – it’s nice to have someone to chat with. The best part about the yoga was the happy baby pose, which we thought was “happy bean” (since we couldn’t hear over our talking) and we kept rolling over like rolly polly bugs!
