My day is going pretty awesome.  Why?  Well first off, I had speedwork on my schedule today and I nailed it!  8 miles with 3 x 1 mile at 5K pace.  My paces were speedy, and I made it through them all.  Yahoo!  And, there was no pain in my shin at all.

I think it had to do with my new shorts.  These babies are so bright.  This picture does not do them justice.  They will burn your eyes out on a sunny day.  But that’s great, because I don’t want to get hit by cars when I run on the roads!!  Nice combo with my new shoes, don’t you think?

The Old Navy website doesn’t quite represent the brightness of them – but the name “Always Bright Neon” should have been a clue!  I am loving the fit of these shorts.  I bought a pair in black too.  And with my Old Navy rewards they were free.  DEAL!

Speaking of bright shorts – Alan snapped this picture of me the other day when I was finishing up my long run with a sprint down the sidewalk.  Note to self:  1) that black tank top didn’t really look awesome with those shorts.  2) wow, my arms look ripped!  Must have been the lighting.  3)  smile next time!!

Other random thing… I bought a few new flavors of GU when I was on vacation.  Check out that middle one.  Maple Bacon!!  I have tried one already and it was OK.  Not bad, but not being added to my small rotation of favorite flavors.  Haven’t tried the other new flavors yet, but looking forward to them.

But the MOST AWESOME thing – we booked airfare and a hotel in Boston for the 2016 marathon!!  I got to thinking about the trip yesterday, and didn’t even know if we were taking the kids along.  Here’s the thing – with both Alan and I running, any race we sign up for becomes an issue with child care.  Last year we had to the support of friends and hired a babysitter to stay with the kids.  This year we’re taking them along with us!  And we decided to fly – so a 2 hour flight vs 14 hours in the car.  WIN!  Yesterday I was stressing the trip, trying to figure out what to do, but now that we have arrangements, I’m on the top of the world about it.  🙂

And lastly, if you need something to help you smile today, here is my daughter on her quest to walk our kitten on a leash.  I think Luna is actually tolerating it!  She didn’t want the cat to “get dirty” so she put that cardboard underneath of her.  LOL!!!

Q:  What are your favorite flavors or GU, sports drink, etc?

Q:  Do you prefer black workout clothes, or bright colors?

I’m mostly into black shorts, so I thought I needed to mix it up at bit!

Q:  Got any good news to share??

  1. Woohoo! This was a fun read at lunch- a real pick me up! Your arms DO look ripped in that picture. I love bright shorts. I got a bunch of bright ones from Wal Mart a few weeks ago. They are actually so comfy and fit perfect! I am sort of picky…

I am glad you have Boston all figured out! Have you run Boston before? You are going to have the time of your life!!!

    1. I remember your shorts purchase because I have a pair of the same ones (in black)! My store didn’t have any others in my size so I was out of luck. I ran Boston last year for the first time. It was a huge event because race day was on my birthday!! Well, wouldn’t you know it, the weather was cold and rainy that day. Waaaaa. So, I’m going back for my “perfect race day” in 2016. Hope I’m not jinxed! Early forecast for the Erie marathon is a tad warm. Hopefully is will not be.

  2. Glad your run went well, my uber high tech piece of garbage Garmin Fenix 3 decided to stop recording distance during today’s hard speedwork. So my 8+ mile run consisted of 3.9 miles with the last split at a blistering 45:25 minute pace. Yeah, thats not right. Apparently when it thinks you ran a -9421.04 miles in 60 seconds it kinda throws off the accuracy.

  3. This is like the happiest most exciting post ever. I was cranky today and everything about it made me smile! Great job on your mile repeats and the shorts are adorable! And BOSTON!!!! We can register soon!!! YAYYYYYY!!!!

    1. The Boston registration buzz will be happening soon!! I have to sweat it out a little because I’m a squeaker (BQ -1:32), unless I crush it in Erie (hey, there’s always a chance!).
I’m glad you got a smile from my post 🙂 I can’t help but chuckle looking at my kitty on a leash. And thinking about a black cat getting “dirty” walking on blacktop!

  4. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the shorts!!!! And dang, who cares if the black top didn’t match, you look AWESOME!!!! Riped arms for sure!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

I just know you will PR and BQ!!!! I know it!!!! How exciting!!!!! Can’t wait to hear! and see PICS!

    1. I think I am blessed with lower fat in my arms because I can get some good definition from doing very little arm work. Which for the most part is nothing! But still, must have been a good angle in that shot 😉

      1. Regardless! Your arms look awesome! I have added arm work to my routine, but I am thinking I need to add weights. Seriously, I am not sure what to do with weights! How much weight is too little or too much? Am I wasting my time with 8 pound weights…. not sure, but My arms burn like heck!!! Hopefully, one day, I will get half the definition you have in this pic!!!!
Marathon soon! Can’t wait to hear about it and see pictures!!!!! Every time you train for a marathon, it so makes me to want to sign up!!!!
