Did you have a good weekend?  I sure did!  The weekend was filled with all sorts of marathon planning and running.  Saturday morning was a 5K with my daughter, which I’ll recap later.  It had a surprise ending!  Sunday morning was a fun run with our local running club.  For those of you not familiar with them, the Toledo Roadrunners are a great resource for runners – both new and experienced.  They put on several low cost/free runs each year for their members.  This one is their Turkey Trot which is a Prediction run.  For a Prediction run you have to guess what your finish time will be, and no watches/timing apps are allowed.  The 4 closest finish times win a turkey!

We guessed 29:30, 30:00, and 31:00.  My son Zachary ran with us, but Sydney had a cold so she worked at the timing table.

It was quite a cold day, and it snowed for the first time of the season on Saturday night, so the trail was a little bit slippery, but not too bad.  It did make the whole town incredibly beautiful!

We actually did a really good job of predicting our finish times.  We finished in 30:35.  Well, Zachary was a few seconds before us though, because apparently that’s just how it rolls in our family… sprint ahead of the parents! We didn’t win any turkeys though.  There were some people who predicted their finish time within 10 seconds or less!

Speaking of Glass City Marathon Ambassadors – we got together for lunch today so I got to meet all of the other Ambassadors in person!  I knew several of them from races, but for a few others it was our first meeting.  You should get to know them too – they will be giving you all sorts of good information about the upcoming race and training tips, motivation, and more!  You can see their information HERE.

As I was leaving from our lunch I got a text from my running buddy Kristen.  She asked if I wanted to go out for a run with her in a few minutes.  I think it was fate because I was hoping to run 10 miles today, and was just going to leave it at the 3.1 I ran this morning, but what the heck – I have a stomach full of food, and it’s 2:30pm (I’m so not an afternoon runner!), I have a bunch of housework to do, but YES, I do love running with my friends so I went back out.  Hard to resist a run with a friend and the beautiful outdoor scenery.  Not surprising, I made it 6 1/2 miles, not 7, before I had to call it quits on account of a need for a pitstop.  Immediately.  Runner TMI, I think not 😉

We’ve got two more coming up this week!  Busy time of the year!

Q: Have you ever run a Prediction Run?

Q: Are you a morning, afternoon, or night runner usually?

  1. The prediction runs sound so cool! My running club does something similar on New Years day. We split into two teams and run together and predict our team’s time. You HAVE to finish together as a group. The kicker is that it is a scavenger hunt run- there is a different course for each team and there is all sorts of random stuff laying along the route you have to pick up. Hula skirts, santa hats, tutus, etc. So by the time you finish, you are all dressed up RIDICULOUS! There may be beer out on the course too but I hate beer so of course I let others drink it! This is not a race at ALL just a fun run with a group of friends.

  2. I never did a prediction run! That seems so fun!! I usually do a few holiday races but I’ve been laying low this year with my calf. Maybe in December…we’ll see. Great job!

  3. I love the idea of that prediction run. I used to run without a GPS watch and was really good at estimating my paces, but since I bought one this spring I have become so reliant on it. Sorry you didn’t win a turkey!

    1. We were going to change our time to be slower since people were talking about the path having ice, but it worked out well. We’re usually off by minutes when we guess!

  4. That Prediction Run is a great idea, and a very funny way to win a turkey.. It looks beautiful with you at the minute.. When it snows here in Ireland everything gets cancelled, we just aren’t equipped to deal with it lol..
